A lucky shot.....when I looked up I saw a chimney which appears to be generating clouds.

The crowded streets of San Francisco before a Giants game. I like that some rush to take their seats and others just hang around, talking. Taken From the View section of AT&T Park.

Grand Teton National Park, August 2006

As I was taking my earlier shot of the South Moulton Barn, I heard someone nearby exclaim, "Watch out for the bison!" I looked up, and saw a herd of bison running in my general direction towards the barn. So, I wisely relocated, putting a fence between myself and the bison, and watched as the herd stampeded past the area where I had just been standing. As I gazed in amazement while the the herd ran by, I managed to snap this shot, and a few others that I'll post later.

You are missing 90% of the shot if you don't see this one at its largest!

I have to say that this is probably one of my favorite photos I have ever made!

This was taken early in the morning outside a small cabin in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

I've taken a single image and used the posterize filter in Photoshop Elements to highlight the nuances of color and light within the wood.

I hope you'll view this at the larger sizes to see the detail that this filter highlights within an image.....

Yet another creation. A little more simplistic in its composition. Comments appreciated.

I don't know about you, but I find lily pads one of the most beautiful things in nature.

This was taken at Fair Park near downtown Dallas, Texas...and I personally think it is much better when viewed at the larger size:

I tried to walk out on this thing to take some pictures from the inside, but i got scared and chickened out. It wasn't that i was worried for my life. I just knew that if a train came i would have to jump in the water and it would ruin my camera.

this image was made from one raw file tonemapped and then played with in photoshop.

Best viewed large, you can see the line and loop on the rod. hehe.

Aim: To capture this stunning moment before the sun set, and to capture a strong silhouette!

The Vietnam Veteran's Memorial traveling exhibit came to the Dallas area this week and I had a chance to see it in person....and also through my lens.

If you have not visited the original in Washington, I hope you will - it is a powerful and moving experience.

"The Wall" is a reflection on all of us who are fortunate enough to live in The United States....and who mourn the loss of those who have died in service to our country.

Battersea Power Station, completed in 1939, was the first in a series of very large (for the era) coal-fired electrical generating facilities set up in England as part of the National Grid power distribution system then being introduced.

The grade II listed building is being converted to a large commercial and entertainment complex as the centrepiece of a project to rejuvenate the area.

There is a beautiful pond at the base of Signal Mountain in Grand Teton National Park that was swarming with solid red and solid blue dragonflies - neither of which I had ever previously seen in person.

Here's the companion shot to this one showing the blue dragonfly species:

This was taken with a Sigma 105mm macro lens coupled with a Nikon D70.

This is the same scene as the earlier shot taken 20 minutes later.

I wasn't really going to put it online but I haven't taken pictures for a week now because my sensor is very dirty and I am too scared to clean it myself so I have to dig into my "archives" till I can find the courage to clean my sensor.

I prefer not to do any post-processing on my images (no photoshop skills) but in this case, I had to use the healing brush to remove the sensor specks and I had to crop out part of the image which couldn't be healed with the sensor brush.

(The specks are very visible at F/22 which is my preferred aperture for landscape shots but they are also visible at other apertures though F/4, F/2.8, F/1.4 is still "usable"

17/04/2007: I no longer shoot at F/22 because of lens diffraction issues; F/11 generally gets the job done)

From WikiPedia:

The City of London is a small area in Greater London. The modern conurbation of London developed from the City of London and the nearby City of Westminster, which was the centre of the royal government. The City of London is now London's main financial district. It is often referred to as just the City or as the Square Mile, as it is approximately one square mile (2.6 square kilometres) in area; note that these terms are also often used as synonyms for the UK financial services industry, which is principally based there.

In the medieval period the City was the full extent of London (as distinct from the nearby but then-separate City of Westminster), but the term London now refers to a much larger conurbation containing both 'cities'. The City of London is still part of London's city centre, but apart from financial services, most of London's metropolitan functions are centred on the West End. The City of London has a resident population of under 9,000 but a daily working population of around 300,000.

[...]

The size of the City was originally constrained by a defensive perimeter wall, known as 'London Wall', which was built by the Romans to protect their strategic port city. However, the boundaries of the City of London are no longer the old City Wall as the city expanded its jurisdiction to the so-called City Bars such as Temple Bar. The boundary froze in the medieval period, thus the City did not and does not control the whole of London.

The walls have long since disappeared although several sections remain visible above ground. A section near the Museum of London was revealed after the devastation of an air-raid on 29 December 1940 at the height of the Blitz. Other visible sections are at St Alphage, London Wall, and there are two sections near the Tower of London.

A return visit to St Paul's and the Wobbly Bridge in early May.

(Try taking a 30 second exposure on that bridge!)

This, and the other night shots I've posted in the last 3 weeks are from my archives because the longer days aren't really convenient for me; I hope to find time this weekend to take a fresh batch of night shots

I found this laying on the ground in front of Wasabi & On the Rocks on Markham Street. I have no idea how long it had been there, but seeing a random parachuter just about made my day. My day was even better when I realized he was carrying cash! Check the next picture for more details!

This giant turtle was sleeping and was awaken when I got too close. It went back to sleep though, straight after looking up at me...

Apparently pink Cadillacs migrate to Galveston Island during the summer months like so many other breeds of wildlife.

I found this flock in a green field on the western end of the island and took this handheld multiple exposure image of them at rest.

As with all high dynamic range imagery, this is better when viewed at the larger sizes...

Greenwich Pier is a pier on the River Thames in the London borough of Greenwich. It is operated by London River Services and called at by various river cruise operators, mostly operating public cruise services to and from Central London.

The pier is immediately adjacent to the Cutty Sark and the Greenwich Hospital, and within two minutes walk of the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich Park and central Greenwich, with its covered market and shops.

The pier also provides an interchange with the Cutty Sark station of the Docklands Light Railway and the Greenwich Foot Tunnel.
