This is a photo of patterns in the sand at Clam Harbour Beach created by the tide and water flowing in a shallow stream.
I think getting interesting pattern shots of trees is harder than it looks, but here is one which I like a lot.
Similar patterns are to be found in the mud of drying puddles or in cooling basaltic magma (forming polygonal columns)....

End of the day patterns on Lake Fehr, Uintah Mountains, Utah, USA.
Initial edits in View NX2, further adjustments to sharpness, tone mapping and contrast in Corel Paintshop. A bit unnatural result, but I was more interested in the patterns and big picture than in fidelity to tones and contrast.
"All around us, we see a great diversity of living things, from the microscopic to the gigantic, from the simple to the complex, from bright colors to dull ones. One of the most intriguing things we see in nature is patterns. We tend to think of patterns as sequences or designs that are orderly and that repeat. But we can also think of patterns as anything that is not random.
For example, we recognize the spots on a giraffe as a pattern, but they're not regular, nor are any of the spots the same size or shape. However, other patterns are orderly as is seen in the symmetry of a sea star or a snowflake."

At first glance those that visit my bathroom think the pattern on the wall is wallpaper, but the wall is actually hand-painted by me. It took a long time, many, many nights--small sections at a time--with the sounds of my favorite playlist in the background.
It's not for everyone's taste--but I love it---and I've gotten a few "wows"
(and it can be seen in the B/G of my few self-portraits)

It's been some time since I posted on Flickr, but figured I would post some new images here since Instagram is kinda useless. Some great rock patterns in Yoho National Park
