As executive editor for Virginia Wine Lover magazine ( www.virginiawinelover.com ), I was very fortunate to be invited on the first of several planned tours with Virginia First Lady Maureen McDonnell around the state’s wine country.
The tour took place 14 May, 2010 and is part of the First Lady’s initiatives towards economic development; one component of the initiatives is Virginia’s wine industry ( www.virginiawine.org ).
Starting from the Executive Mansion in Richmond, the tour included stops at Jefferson Vineyards (www.jeffersonvineyards.com ) in Charlottesville, Veritas Vineyards ( www.veritaswines.com ) in Afton and White Hall Vineyards ( www.whitehallvineyards.com ) in Crozet.
It was an incredible tour, visiting the wineries and speaking with the winemakers about their craft, sampling some incredible vintages, and learning more about this historic industry in the state.
