Ein Dorfplatz in Berlin

I had intended, all summer, to visit a creamery just outside of town. People say it's where to go for the best ice cream! Today, I stumbled on Patches Creamery. No one had exaggerated; the ice cream is incredible. They also have a wonderful team of alpacas, goats, geese, ducks, and miniature horses to greet customers as they arrive.

It's almost worth going just for the animals!

NREX SD20 2039 was smacking the BNSF diamond at Savanna with IMRL train 263 during Ultra-High Sun in 1998. IMRL SD45s 8925 and 358 were following the former Illinois Central rebuild on the way west.

And did I chase this friggin' fantastic consist across Iowa? Uh, nope.

You might not know it by name, but Sand Patch Grade is a well-known spot to photograph trains.

This is one of my favorite slides in my collection. As a kid I thought the Chessie System logos and colors were the coolest thing, ever. This image, taken by David Leonard, perfectly frames the colors of the Chessie, and those turbo V-16's working hard on the 2% grade that is the Allegheny Mountains in Pennsylvania.

This is a hi-res drum scan of a 35mm Kodachrome 64 slide, photographed in Mance, PA on October 28, 1978.

Alex wanted a Pumpkin Patch last year, but we only had a few pumpkins. So, as a result of my "thrifting" this year we've been able to create this. Alex spends practically every minute of her weekends in her Pumpkin Patch.

Some TOSRV (Tour of the Scioto River Valley) patches from the golden age. The 1967 TOSRV was part of the Columbus AYH council Rally Series, and “TOSRV” doesn’t appear on that patch. It was the first TOSRV (and my first, aged 11) to exceed 200 riders, unprecedented in post WWII American cycling. By the 80s the route was clogged with 6000+ riders. Tour Director Charlie Pace inspired armies of volunteers to keep things running smoothly. Greg Siple designed nearly all of these patches, though father Charles Siple weighed in on round 1995 patch (upper left). I rode it 42 times, so not a complete collection.

Spotted this field whilst driving on the A12 heading towards Colchester so decided to turn off and investigate. Not sure what the crop is. Think it might be alfalfa, also called lucerne used for silage. If anybody knows better please feel free to let me know.

Flickr Friday theme Patch. This is a jacket I bought at the race in 1984. Back then a photographers pit pass was a small pin. I saw one photographer that had a dozen pinned to his camera strap. I had two over the years. Couldn't find them for this picture. I had shot pictures for the Indianapolis Star and News when it was still called the Indianapolis Morning Star. the old photographer ,;-)

A professorial vibe

Elbow patches bring to mind professors and moors and corduroy. I think I like all of those things. (I’ve never been to a moor.)

Why don’t more items of clothing have elbow patches? I love how utilitarian they are. I’m the sort of person that tends to wear out elbows and knees, so elbow patches just make sense.

💪

More patches and hatches with the whole crew of Expedition 65. We did two spacecraft relocations (our SpaceX Crew Dragon and Soyuz last week), four spacewalks and some cargo spacecraft came and went too so we got to sign many patches. But then we also sign the Expedition patch. It feels somewhat like Expedition 65 is coming to an end, even if it still goes on for another month, but today and end of October we have new people arriving at the Station, marking the end of spending five months just the seven of us: Megan, Mark, Pyotr, Shane, Aki, Oleg. We are a tight-knit group, we got so much work done and had fun while doing it, Expedition 65 rocks!

Drunky McPumpkin stood in the middle of the patch he called home and shivered, knowing the Witch was out there somewhere. Clouds began to roll in as the midnight hour began and Drunky knew she was up there somewhere, flying around on her 2012 Ford Knobby Stick GTO Broom.

A cold breeze blew in from the west and the hairs on Drunky's stems stood up. He could feel the evil presence of the Witch. She was close.

The Witch had tried many times to get him and Drunky knew tonight, she would not stop till she succeeded. In the distance a cackle rolled across the silence.

She came out of nowhere, flying high, a speck across the moons face. She turned, swooped down and aimed for her target, Drunky McPumpkin.

Drunky looked up as the Witch flew by so close that he could see the details of her granny bloomers. He ran, screaming in terror. His long, spindly stalks moved as fast as they could across the pumpkin patch trying to find a place to hide. Drunky knew she was close but he was too terrified to look back.

With her breath on the back of his big orange head, Drunky tried to scream as he heard the words, 'Hey Baby, Your hot. Wanna go out and have some drinks??"

Drunky fainted, face planting into the ground.

Luton & District Bristol VR 913 sits outside Aylesbury garage in Buckingham Road, probably in early 1987, not long after it's acquisition from Milton Keynes City Bus. It later gained Red Rover fleetnames.

The former Eastern National and United Counties garage dates from 1939, closing in 1991; the former travel office has already become occupied by Age Concern. Of the cars, the 1972 red Cortina no longer bothers the DVLA whilst the 1971 Austin Maxi was off the road by August 1988. 913 was sold for scrap in late-1996.
