Paste papers are one of the earliest methods used to decorate paper. From the late 16th century through to the 18th century they were predominately used as book covers and as endsheets.
They are made with flour, water and pigments, and applied with sponges or brushes.
Not quite pesto.
Our basil came time for harvesting and we were headed out of town so I knew if I didn't harvest it, I'd lose it. But I didn't have time to truly make the pesto I invisioned making. So I simply ripped all the leaves off an armload of basil stems (literally an armload, quite likely a bushel's worth), rinsed them, and threw them in the food processor with some olive oil to make a paste. And boy is it a basily paste. Now I can add some cheese and pine nuts (or sunflower seeds, which I actually prefer) to get a couple pints of pesto. yummina
