The old Hospiz (Hospice for travelers over the Simplon Pass) is listed as a Swiss heritage site of national significance. The Hospiz was begun in 1801 on orders from Napoleon, but was not finished until 30 years later with the support of the Canons of Great Saint Bernard.

Pareja de Gorrión moruno (Passer hispaniolensis)

Gorrión común

(Passer domesticus)

A cold sunset evening looking over snow topped houses and pass leading to the ski resort in Flaine, France.

My Impressions of Winnats Pass which is a Limestone gorge located at Castleton in the High Peak district of Derbyshire, England.

I don't like hights. I get giddy standing on a stool, so standing on the edge of the limestone outcrops in wet muddy boots and looking down to see a lot of air before my eyes focused on the road at the bottom of the gorge.....is......???

This was a reconnaissance trip but the low cloud swept in leaving little visibility.

So i will have to do it all again:-) Looking forward to it.

Captured this huge pano on 03/31/2015 on the top of the Renjo Pass (5360m). It was pretty difficult or rather exhausting to climb Renjo at this time, because there was a lot of snow - too much snow!

But finally... we (Dawa Sherpa and I) did it! :)

It's a panorama composed of 20 shots.

Burkes Pass is a mountain pass and at its base, a small town on State Highway 8 at the entrance to the Mackenzie Country in South Canterbury, New Zealand. It is named after Michael John Burke (1812 Co. Galway-1869 Ballarat), a graduate of Trinity College Dublin, who drove a team of bullocks through the passageway which leads up into the Mackenzie Country in 1855.

Molas Pass (elevation 3326m) is a high mountain pass in Western Colorado, traversed by Million Dollar Highway.

Million Dollar Highway is definitely one of the most scenic highways I have travelled. Stretching between the cities of Durango and Silverton, highway stretches 40km and travels through gorges with steep cliffs and high mountain passes.

The origin of the name of the highway is disputed. There are several legends and according to one it cost a million dollars a mile to build the highway in 1920s. According to another legend, road’s fill dirt contains a million dollars in gold ore.

Taken July 2019.

I liked the contrast between the beautiful landscape and the derelict buildings you can find at Passo del Tonale (1884 m) in northern Italy. I tried to enhance the effect with a digital filter, which I normally refrain from. Mind you, not all the houses there look like this, it's actually a nice hiking area and a decent ski resort in winter.

Upper Whitcombe valley and Whitcombe Pass (1239 m), looking south towards the Rakaia valley and Jollie Range in the distance. The high peak on the right is Lauper Peak (2485 m). The main divide of the Southern Alps runs through the pass.

Winnats Pass over a decade ago. Maybe one day I'll brave the crowds. At this time I was using a second hand lens that badly needed cleaning inside. Shooting into the sun showed how badly it needed it. When I eventually sent it off it came back looking new.

Ophir Pass is a beautiful drive and the road for the most part is easy. It not a long drive and it's a shortcut from Telluride to Silverton.

This was a view on the way to Buckskin Pass (although I forget the name of the pass captured in this image). It was by accident I had taken this trail one morning, and it was a very tough climb. When I saw this view, I knew I had to return in an afternoon to capture it with the right light. This was my favorite day of the trip and this was my favorite location. was thrilled to make it up here right after a snow storm.

The only hikers I came across were the one's going up to the pass, and they were few and far between. I really enjoyed the solitude. I hiked a little further from this point, but I hope I return sometime to make it even further. This whole hike was a beautiful experience.

This is the Bernese section of the Grimsel pass road. The Grimsel pass is connecting Meiringen/Haslital with Gletsch in the Valais.
