This is my little prototype device that I'm using to talk to a WPF app. You can see a video of the application in action also see my blog post
The ice cream is from Mitchell's. It's a local ice cream producer with a good reputation. Obviously not enough people have tried Woo City.
I only had 3 10-element bargraph LEDs, which is 30, 2 less than the target 32-bit display, but as this idea is easily scalable, it wasn't necessary to see all 32 bits in action to know it was a sound idea. I stopped at 24, a multiple of the 8 bits I'm using in the second counting portion.
Some of my original designs for a counter got elaborate and silly, like the one before this that wanted 5 18-pin ICs, and one 16-pin hex inverter IC. I thought about the problem some more last night, and realized that the chip I've been trying to use for this idea, due to its simplicity, and seemingly perfect fit for the idea, could be used in a different way. I'm speaking of the 4017 decade counter/divider, which has 10 output pins that are mutually exclusive highs - only one can be on at a time. By pulsing the clock pin, the current pin turns off, and the next in the sequence turns on, and so on in a loop through all 10. There's also an active-high reset pin, which means you can plug any of the outputs into the reset to have it reset the instant you get to that number, so it can be a 2, 5, 6, 8, etc. counter, too.
Parallax inevitable with so many objects close to the camera!
Unexpectedly luxurious compared to the public huts, which basically have only sleeping platfoms and a table in them. Also had indoor long-drop composting toilets, wash room, another identical section as this, and a "fridge" (wire mesh protected enclosure exposed to the snow). Has 22 actual matresses, but obviously room for many more if you brought your thermarest.
The University of Tsukuba, Japan is the star of the 2011 Campus Exhibition. This institution of higher education has long been associated with the festival, and numerous works developed there or created by its alumni have been showcased at Ars Electronica.

So one of the 'cleverer than a very clever thing' tricks of my new Ricoh Caplio R6 does is a magic parallax correction button. This the original picture of a poster high up on a church wall.
Here before.......
The Neptune Hotel (1794-97) was designed by George Pycock as part of the Trinity House project upgrading its Whitefriargate properties. The Neptune boasted 22 four-poster beds and closed in 1815, becoming Hull's Customs House until 1912. Part of the Neptune has served as a retail outlet for Boots the Chemist for a number of years. The staff canteen, originally the Hotel's banqueting room, retains the original decorative plaster ceiling.

Fascination.
Despite the lousy fluorescent lighting, and the fact that parallax error made me chop off Sophia's feet, I love this shot because it illustrates Owen's crazy upper body strength.

Here is my bird of parallax with the background painted in gold. It's definitely come together more than it had last night, but I still don't think it's finished. Looking more like the paintings I did in 8th Grade than 6th, but still not even teenage drivel yet.
Then again, my painting teacher in high school (god, he would be gutted to see how my painting skillz have decayed) would always tell me "get a painting to the point where you think it's *almost* finished, and then walk away."
Perhaps I will hang it up in my bedroom and leave it for a few days before deciding to do anything further.
I would like those leaves to look a bit less... rubbish. But I PH34R getting out the damned green paint again.
