I went for a walk up town to the local shopping centre where I had a coffee, on the way I had to walk under this traffic bridge that goes across from Paradise Point to Sovereign Island on the Gold Coast QLD

Mount Rainier is the highest mountain of the Cascade Range of the Pacific Northwest, and the highest mountain in the U.S. state of Washington. It is a large active stratovolcano located 54 miles (87 km) south-southeast of Seattle, in the Mount Rainier National Park. It is the most topographically prominent mountain in the contiguous United States and the Cascade Volcanic Arc, with a summit elevation of 14,411 ft (4,392 m). Mt. Rainier is considered one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world, and it is on the Decade Volcano list. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Rainier

View of St. Thomas harbor from Paradise Point, US Virgin Island..

The three people in this 24 foot commercial fishing/dive boat were thrown into the cold winter waters of the Pacific Ocean when it got flipped by a large wave just off Port Orford's Paradise Point Beach in Curry County on Oregon's southern coast. Two made it to the beach but the third did not and presumed drowned. Unfortunately none had thought to wear life vests

The view from Paradise Point. It is about 700 feet (215 m) above sea level, the highest point on St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. It is at the top of the "Skyride" cable car. I bought a placemat with this view on my last time in St. Thomas.

Three cruise ships are docked at the West India Company dock in the foreground. From right to left, they are Celebrity Equinox (our ship), Carnival Valor, and Adventure of the Seas (Royal Caribbean). Havensight Mall is by the ships.

Charlotte Amalie, the main city of the U.S. Virgin Islands, is at the right. Fort Christian and the old part of the city are near the dark green area to the right. The main shopping area is to the right center. Crown Bay, the secondary cruise ship port and perhaps the main cargo port, is in the left background. It is about 3 miles (5 km) away, straight-line.

Part of Hassel Island is at left. It was once part of the port's defenses. It is now mostly a protected park area.

I'm home in Jacksonville after another solid quarter at Portfolio Center. Halfway done!

Charlotte Amalie and St. Thomas harbor, in a postcard view. The center of the city, with the main tourist shopping area, is at right center. Fort Christian and the Parliament building are on this side of the shops.

Three cruise ships are at the West Indian Company Dock in the foreground, which was the only cruise ship dock until recent. They are (from right) Celebrity Milennium, Freedom of the Seas (Royal Caribbean) and an unidentified Carnival ship. Havensight Mall is the red-roofed buildings in the foregrounds. The two parallel buildings at left center are tourist shops. The rest of the mall is mostly for local residents. A new yacht harbor is at the far right.

Holland America ships dock at the Crown Bay, a new facility. it is at the far left of the photo, with two cruise ships. The shops are not well developed, and probably never will be. There is no view of the harbor, because of the spit of land at the left. I did not see the city from the ship, even as it left the harbor.

The view is from Paradise Point, the top of a hill which has a cable car. The distance between the main cruise ship dock and downtown shops is about 2 miles (3 km). It is a little farther from Crown Bay.

The view from Paradise Point. It is about 700 feet (215 m) above sea level, the highest point on St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. This is the widest view I could take with my camera. I did not attempt a multi-photo panorama.

The narrow island at left is Hassel Island. It was once part of the defenses of St. Thomas and is now mostly a protected park area. Part of a cafe and a very large house with the same view are in the foreground.

On December 26, 2008, we flew from Denver to San Diego and spent several days relaxing before our trip to New Zealand. We visited Sea World and Legoland. And we saw the Broncos-Chargers football game. Here's a Sunset photo from Saturday, December 27, 2008 at the Paradise Point Marina.

My excursion for the day was riding the cable car to the top of Paradise Point. It is the highest point on St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, about 700 feet (215 m). The base station is at lower left, by the row of flags. If you look carefully in the larger sizes and have some imagination, you can see the two large pulleys that drive the cable cars. The top station is the light structure at the brow of the hill (not the much larger building below it).

The Skyride, as it is called, has two sets of three cars that balance each other, connected by a continuous cable. They must have been at the top and bottom when I took this photo, since they are not visible here. They meet at the last tower, below the summit of the hill. The cars do not stop at the top and bottom, but travel very slowly through the stations. The transit is 5 minutes, and time through the station is 2 minutes. A complete cycle is 14 minutes.

There are several viewing places at the top. Surprisingly, the best is a balcony behind the shops.

I took this photo from the cruise ship, opposite Havensight Mall. The ride is rather pricey, $21 round trip. There is also a hiking trail and a road to the top.

Downtown Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, from Paradise Point. The Parliament building and Fort Christian (1670s) are in the center, beyond the small bay. Fort Christian's red tower is fairly easy to spot.

The green awning or roof at right center is probably the 1829 Hotel. The "99 Steps." going up from that street to a higher viewpoint, is to the right of the hotel. Government House, the office of the Governor, would be two houses to the right. The Governor has official residence, which is higher in the hills.

The main tourist shopping area is on the left.

We took the Sky Ride to Paradise Point in Charlotte Amalie, the capitol of St. Thomas of the USVI.

The ride up was fun, and the view from the top was spectacular.

While at the top, we had a nice lunch at the restaurant.

I definitely recommend the Sky Ride. We plan to ride it again.

I left my heart in...there are pieces of it all over the world, but this photo was taken at Paradise Point in St. Thomas. I hadn't had my DSLR for long and this was my first time using my Lensbaby fisheye. I wish I had used a different aperature ring, but am happy with the shot. Google "Bushwacker"-the drink Paradise Point is famous for. It's amazing any of my photographs turned out after one of those!

Paradise Point overlooks Charlotte Amalie and the harbor on St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. I took this photo from the ship as it left the island. You can see part of the Celebrity ship Summit at left.

The Skyride, a cable car. takes tourists to the top of Paradise Point. I had taken it last year, but it had gone out of service in the late spring. I saw cars moving between the towers (not visible in this photo), so it must be operating again.

The rock outcroppings of the Orford Reef National Wildlife Sanctuary are visible on the horizon. As seen from Oregon's Paradise Point State Wayside in Port Orford, Curry County, the southern Oregon coast, about 1.5 miles west of U.S.Highway 101.

The green awning at the far right is probably the 1829 Hotel, Government House would be just beyond the right edge. There are many villas in the hills overlooking the city and harbor.

From the Earth, the Milky Way appears like a band because its disk-shaped structure is viewed from within the Galaxy. The light in this band originates from un-resolved stars and other material that lie within the Galactic plane. Dark regions within the band, such as the Great Rift and the Coalsack, correspond to areas where light from distant stars is blocked by interstellar dust. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milky_Way

I couldn't take this shot without the pontoon with the pointed woods, but I wanted this capture. This bench is set on the ground in order you can have seight on the brigde and the marina and Ephraim and Sovereign Islands. One's can make dreams of all kinds.

Among the standard white square boxes-on-water, the Disney Magic presents a futuristic take on the elegant look of classic ocean liners of the past. Its lines, its colour scheme and twin funnels help create the illusion. The forward funnel is a dummy that houses the amazing teen club.
