Inside the CD Packaging for my ISTD (2009) project. The chosen brief: 78rpm - mp3.
The piece entered is two animations, but I wanted to present the animation CDs nicely - rather than the usual jewel cases.
I handmade the case so it operates like a book. The animations will be posted shortly.

I have been looking for ages for something inexpensive and suitable for people to keep and display their toppers in, rather than just keep them in a cardboard box.
A couple of weeks ago I found these at www.design-a-cake.co.uk/
and they are perfect ! Made of perspex they come with blue or gold bases and in a variety of sizes. This one is a 6" cube and cost just £1.25 ! I have sat the topper on a piece of non-slip matting so that it's secure but can still be removed if needed.
Design-a-Cake have probably been selling them for years but I've only just discovered them and I thought those of you in the UK might be interested ...... but, of course, you may already have bought them !

PERSONAL FUN FACT: The lockers pretty much sum up why my sister and I wanted this school. They really open, they look realistic yet colorful....everything you could want. This originally came with name stickers for the Generation Girls. But I got my school secondhand in the early 2000s. There were a few pieces of the name labels left, but most were gone or partially torn. So they eventually were all peeled off. That was fine with us, since Colleen and I rarely played with the Generation Girls in the school. Instead we had our usual cast of favorite dolls, which rotated around depending on the time frame. There would be a designated locker for School Photographer Becky, Pet Pals Skipper, 2001 Sparkling Jasmine...even Kid Kore Katie. It's interesting because Katie was eight....so I'm not sure why she'd have a high school locker. I even made little text books out of construction paper and gel pens for each of the dolls. I would do different fonts, copying names from my own textbooks. Sometimes I'd doodle on the covers, to make it look like the dolls got bored in class. The slide out walls also added some realism. It was a bummer we didn't get any of the furniture that originally came with this set. But we had so many dolls in play, that we couldn't have possibly fit them at the flimsy cafeteria table. So we just sat the dolls on the floor and pretended there was a table. Colleen and I always used our imaginations to fill in the missing set pieces or even characters we didn't have. The newspaper room was also a fun set to utilize. I really liked the copy machine...but I was bummed it wasn't three dimensional. The walls are vinyl which can be retracted into the school. This makes everything super compact and easy to store. However, when you store it for a while and then roll out the walls, they stay curled. So I always have to use putty to stick under the metal bases. This keeps the walls taught and straight. This wasn't so much an issue when I was a kid, because the school was set up ALL the time.

Deboxing the 2015 LE Elsa Doll. First the front cardboard lid is removed, revealing a clear plastic window underneath. Then the plastic window and rear cardboard lid are removed, leaving the doll attached to a free standing cardboard backing. The Certificate of Authenticity is removed from below the backing.
The Limited Edition Elsa Doll, released in stores in North America on March 3, 2015. My doll is #2942 of 5000. She is in jeweled purple felt (made from faux wool). This is the outfit she wore as an 18 year old when saying good bye to her parents before their overseas journey. She is wearing ice blue jeweled satin gloves, which help repress her ice powers. Her hands are clasped together. Her pose and look are that of a sternly repressed nature. She is standing in front a purple window of the Castle, which is closed, as she is closed to the outside world.
She is wearing black flats with floral decoration. Her jacket is pinned to her dress, which I left alone, as it helps to keep the jacket from opening up. There was a large amount of tissue paper stuffing under her skirt. I had to remove her from the doll stand before I could remove the tissue.
She has shiny pearlescent skin, and her skin tone is between that of Coronation Elsa and Snow Queen Elsa. Her hair is slicked down in the front and is in a bun in the back. There is gold tinsel in her hair, even in her side burns.

So... I had a problem finding a good box to put my prints in, so I ended up making my own packaging. Inside is about 20 4x6's and the package is made with a Roundys bag and cardboard... Inkjet printer and tape. Lovely.
I have been battling a "Raging" case of VIRAL pink eye with a Corneal Abbrasion for close to a week and a half. Very scary to have your vision impaired like this. So some friends dropped of the one of the best care packages for me (and wife for tolerating me :) ) yesterday. So I had to make a proper image to remember and show off.
Enjoy and remember to comment and critique.

What a difference great graphic design makes. We love this colourful, dynamic branding and how it has come to life in this simple packaging.
what time's the train?
any minute now.
will the package be on it?
it better be.
how will we recognize it?
it will be tall, blond, with two big, beautiful. . .
eyes?
you got it.
shouldn't be too hard to spot.
that's what I'm thinking.
While confined indoors with a little flu I thought about packaging, walked through the house and photographed some. Quite badly I might add.
We overpackage, there is no doubt about it. And its become not only an environmental but a security issue
Sometimes some innovative people make something new out of old packaging - see top left (part of a giraffe made of old cans) and top right (angel made of old cans).
Hope you have a good Sunday
