So, I was leaving the grocery store this afternoon and saw this great egret walking crossing the street (no joke here...). As he got to the other side and tried to maneuver the curb, he hopped up on top of these shrubs. In watching all of this, I tried to park, wrangle my camera, get out, and "sneak" up on him. Just as I was focusing and making sure I did not get hit in the parking lot, he began to take flight and this is it. This was great and quite the wing span!
Had to do some Photoshop editing to get the color near true since, at the time I grabbed my camera, it was not on the proper settings.

This is the back of the Mountain View town hall. I'm of two minds on this shot; on one hand, it's a bit overprocessed, IMO, and you can see the halo - especially in the images that have been shrunk down to smaller sizes - which I despise.
On the other hand, it has such vibrant contrast. I don't know. What do you think? Overdone?
365 Project - Day 148
The connecting theme of this weekend will be: Overprocessed HDR. We had two relatively clear nights and I was trying to shoot some of the Winterlicht installations with a starry background. Easier said than done: The stars have a hard time fighting against the city lights so I had to go to fairly long exposures which blew out the lights of the art installations. Sometimes this works as in today’s picture, most of the times it doesn’t (c.f. day 149).

Reflection of a sluice gate in a canal lock, Great River Ouse, Bedford. Negative image, upside down, colours amped to the max.
Funeral wreaths attached to street lamp posts mean there was a car crash nearby and some people were killed.
A "slightly" over processed Lobelia.
It has "moved" a bit from its original state. It has passed through a number of Apps - including - Prisma (Servers.com ) for a Painterly effect then IrfanView to end up with this version - there may have been some other Apps along the way that I may have forgotten about.

An attempt at over-processing a picture - on purpose.
Couldn't resist it went down again last night. Taken at Overton mere, Gower, Wales, UK. Best viewed large. I felt I'd been overprocessing in the last few shots so have kept it to a minimum in this. Happier now.

That's Jupiter, top left, Venus, bottom right, Beehive Cluster (M44), just below Venus. 550D + 85mm f1.4 lens, 2.5 sec exposure, ISO 1600. This is embarrassingly overprocessed!

My house at night, with the windows lit pretty much solely by Christmas lights. This is an HDR composition from about 8 shots with exposures of +/- 2 stops about the middle exposure. I don't like a lot of the HDR that I've seen (much of it tends to look too overprocessed and too artificial to my eyes), but effects like this I think help capture the light I'd want to see in a shot like this.

Unfortunate mistake. Farmers' Market Ogden Utah Aug 27, 2022. I shot thison a great day - Kodacolor 400 from 1983. I shot it at EI 200 and then, mistakenly, thought I should adjust again in development and added 20 seconds ... ? The roll was extremely overdeveloped which was extremely disappointing because of the great shots. The negatives were impenetrable. Since I did bleach bypass I went back and washed the film, bleached with potassium ferricyanide for 8 minutes and then fixed again for 8 minutes. The negative came out much clearer, but as you can see with MUCH loss of detail and extremely flat. If my life was at stake, I guess we could say it worked, but most of the interesting stuff is gone.
However after seeing these results and some others, both mine and other folks' I think I'm arriving at with expired color film - adjust the light and compensate for age, etc. And then develop normally. We'll see what I do next.
This one was a bugger but fun. I won't say it's finished, just abandoned. My first choice from this morning was an HDR exposure, however a subtle ghosting problem, which couldn't be edited out, caused me to reconsider. Working with the regular exposure was no picnic either, because of several large overexposed highlights in the clouds. I ran this through a long series of edits including, my favorite, an added post-it note for texture and color. I'm sure the final image looks overprocessed but it sort of is what it is and I'm happy with the learning that went on the process.

Slider Saturday 2/52
There are times that I find extensive post processing evokes a very different feel or mood from an image and sometimes I like the result.
Being more of a purist with photography, I seldom post these overprocessed images but I decided for 2012, I would post those images on what I have termed "Slider Saturday". These will be images that I have extensively moved the sliders in post processing.
My turn at processing.....or should I say overprocessing, but I had fun with it. Did this about a month ago and came across it when I was quickly looking for a fence pic. This cute little mailbox is just across the road from the cute little bus shelter fence I posted a couple weeks ago. Love country living.....and really miss it!
I took this a couple months (really?) ago when we went camping at Unicoi State Park in northern Georgia. I'm sure it is absolutely gorgeous there now with the leaves changing and such and I'm longing to get back up there. I guess this will have to do for now...
I know this image is probably a little overprocessed, but I liked it. I think my brain must have a 812 warming filter in it because I always want to bump up the red channel a little bit...

from a Martha Stewart recipe I found in a magazine. i think it's one of the best meatloafs I've ever had.
it was a nice change of pace from the usual recipe - this one was a combination of ground round, ground veal and ground pork.
Yum!
Three small differences in mine: 1) I used about 5 pieces of bread since mine was too wet. I think I overprocessed the veggies which added a lot of liquid and 2) I ran out of dry mustard, so used stone ground wet mustard instead. Worked just as well! 3) I found I had to cook for longer than 30 minutes - mine actually took about 45/50 minutes.

When life gives you grapes, make wine... and lots of it.
I've never attempted HDR before - here is my first attempt. I used one of my many hobbies, wine making, as the subject. Still brand new at this so I hope its not too overprocessed.
Sometimes a simple mirror can turn a dull subject into something much more interesting. Butterfly? Angel? Overprocessed rainbow shot?
The composition of this shot was way off, because the foreground was just boring houses, and instead I took it of just the sky. However the picture wasn't balanced at all (rainbow down the bottom, nothing really up the top) so I just used it to experiment a bit with blur layers in PS. In the end I overlaid a gaussian blur layer at 30px, which I curved quite strongly to up the contrast, and used a local contrast enhancement on the background layer to bring out the small clouds more sharply.
Still unhappy with how it looked, I decided to duplicate the layer and flip it, then finally rotated it, and I quite like how it turned out. What can you see in the shot?
