Sometimes I edit the hell out of myself simply because I can.

TRF: It's been a long ass day. Tonight we went to a dinner at the Alumni Center honoring all the recipients of the Dean's Award. All 7 of us were introduced and presented with our medals. And I was seated next to the president of the university at dinner, so maybe I really am a serious candidate for the president's medallion? We shall see...

Finally a clear night when I'm at home. Pentax K-r through Meade ETX-90 telescope (1250mm f13.8 lens...more like 1400mm with extender)...before the fog rolled in...I think I overprocessed this; the telescope needs to be tuned - its focus is not nearly as sharp as it should be.

Of course, it never will look the same. And always makes me sad.

continuing experiment with HDR from single source - a bit overprocessed, no?

vertorama from two RAW images, combined and saved as .tiff. i then created 5 separate copies with different exposure levels (-2 to +2) and fed to photomatix. tell me if you have a better workflow, i'd love to hear from you! :)

Wispy clouds reflect the pink light of the already-set sun near the village of Le Bolle in the Chianti region of Tuscany.

After spending the afternoon driving around the Chianti region of Tuscany, I had packed up my gear as the sun dipped below the mountains and stopped bathing the countryside in gorgeous golden light. But, I had noticed the shape and structure of the clouds, and kept an eye on them (as much as I could while keeping an eye on Italian drivers) to see if they'd catch good light as the sun dropped below the horizon.

They did.

In hindsight, I wish I'd gotten more sky in this image. While the ground definitely makes a good anchor, the star here is the clouds. I wanted more, both when witnessing them and in editing this image.

(Production notes: I had to go HDR with this one, as I'd forgotten my grad ND filter. At the risk of sounding like a shill, I can't say enough about Nik's HDR Efex Pro for making it easy to make HDR that doesn't look like typical crappy overprocessed HDR. Some additional tweaking in Photoshop was needed to draw out what I saw with my eye, but overall this isn't heavily processed beyond combining five exposures.)

overprocessed...

I think tracking, focus imperfections, seeing conditions, are all an issue with something this size....(@ f/9)

Only solution (practically) is a better camera...

do folks think the colors are overdone ??

note; star color seems OK..

my amazing friend Ash got me Photoshop CS3. i decided to play with this random picture. i freaking love it, even if it is overprocessed. my eyes are green. ha. i want green contacts now.

I decided to restart my 365. My husband will be gone a lot, so i need something to occupy my time, and stuff to learn this new software. =] We'll see how far I make it this time. i'll finish it eventually. Soon I plan on enrolling at Animal Behavioral College and becoming a certified dog trainer. I've been looking for a new job... heaven knows I need one. that and I want to work with makeup more. blah. we'll see how this goes.

An overprocessed HDR ...

Silence is easy, to say this is killing me.

overprocessed in camera, showing how I saw it at the time

My favorite HDR that I've ever done. I finally got past the 'overprocessed' look and made it a lot more natural. I really like the way it came out.

aaaaaah, weekends, time to chill out and watch doovds! A crappy Jackie Chan DVD (Shinjuku Incident, not very good IMO) and some H2O lit with Maglite. 8 second exposure, Pentax 50mm f1.7 @f22 with wide angle fishy converter thing and all sliders set to maximum!!! (well, almost...)

from a Martha Stewart recipe I found in a magazine. i think it's one of the best meatloafs I've ever had.

it was a nice change of pace from the usual recipe - this one was a combination of ground round, ground veal and ground pork.

Yum!

Recipe here.

Three small differences in mine: 1) I used about 5 pieces of bread since mine was too wet. I think I overprocessed the veggies which added a lot of liquid and 2) I ran out of dry mustard, so used stone ground wet mustard instead. Worked just as well! 3) I found I had to cook for longer than 30 minutes - mine actually took about 45/50 minutes.

Photowalked downtown Spartanburg with RedCrowe again today, but it was overcast, gray, and really, really non-contrasty. So, I'm in an overprocessing mood. I think I pushed some of these a little too far, but it's what I do, right?

It amazes me that little shops like this can survive when confronted with malls and large chains.

Something went wrong and IG did some weird overprocessing on this one, but I kinda liked it...

Processed with VSCOcam with 4 preset

Went with a friend of a friend to Troon yesterday. He had his 5d mark iii and a couple of nice lenses which he let me play with. Stunning quality and great to have a play with a full frame camera. Definately something I would like to own as an option to my 7d at some point.

Now where did I put that lottery ticket...

This is NOT HDR but just overprocessed (deliberately) to give a sort of outdoors feel. I actually dont mind it. Was also taken at 16mm with him only about 60cm from the lens. Crazy fun distortion! Wish id taken it at 2.8 though

St. Pauls Square in the Commercial District of Liverpool city centre.

Hideously overprocessed!

Needs a blue sky.

This is kinda hard to explain, but I'll give it a go:

I took 3 long exposure night driving shots and cranked the colour temperature right up to make them bright red/orange.

I then opened them as layers in GIMP, made one layer negative (inverted colours) and stacked all 3 shots on top of each other using "lighten only" and "darken only" layer modes and merged them into a single layer.

I then repeated the process with a different negative layer and ended up with 2 slightly different merged images.

I then took one of those images and flipped it upside-down, stuck it under the other image and used the smudge tool to hide the join (see examples in comments)

I then added the "emboss" filter, turned the contrast and saturation up a bit, then used and re-used the "pinch and whirl" filter.

Did that make any sense? Good!

A "slightly" over processed Lobelia.

It has "moved" a bit from its original state. It has passed through a number of Apps - including - Prisma (Servers.com ) for a Painterly effect then IrfanView to end up with this version - there may have been some other Apps along the way that I may have forgotten about.

Day 163 of 365: a year in songs and photos

Song: Brand New, Mix Tape

Not what I had in mind for today, but this is what came out. Overprocessed and not what I set out to do (the color version just wasn't working for me), but at least I felt a little motivated about the project today. So I got that going for me.

I got a twenty-dollar bill that says no one's ever seen you without makeup.

You're always made up.

And I'm sick of your tattoos,

and the way you always criticize the Smiths... and Morrissey.

And I know that you're a sucker for anything acoustic.

But when I say let's keep in touch,

I really mean I wish that you'd grow up.

This is the first song for your mixtape.

It's short just like your temper,

but somewhat golden like the afternoons we used to spend before you got too cool...

I used to make mix tapes all the time. Now I make mix CDs, and not quite as often, or with the same reason, I made tapes. My tapes were legend. They all had themes, and the music ran the gamut from Barry Manilow to hardcore punk. People I barely knew would call and ask me to make them tapes for their girlfriends or boyfriends. Break up tapes were my favorite; the last one I made was in 1999 for someone who was just unceremoniously dumped by a girl he was quite obsessed with. I think I captured the agony of defeat quite well; I started out with Stabbing Westward's "What Do I Have To Do" and ended the tape with Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry, Be Happy," just because I thought the guy was better off without her. It made him laugh, so at least he got that out of it.

I'm about to get started on my annual "Driving too fast with the windows down and the stereo on" spring mix CD. CDs are nice and all, but I think the art of the mix tape - and it is an art - died a little when cassettes became passe.

Listen to tonight's song here. One of my favorite songs by this band. It captures the essence of emo kid rejection perfectly. I mean that in a good way. I love this band.

Okay, so I probably went overboard with the HDR Processing. But the light flares just looked so much cooler this way I couldn't help myself.

I *almost* feel like it's film...

almost! If only the CC grid wasn't so obvious. heh.

One of our favorite style icons is giving us major hair inspiration. Jennifer Lawrence has changed up her hair yet again and added bangs!

The 26-year-old was recently spotted rocking some chic, blunt bangs on the set of her upcoming film “Red Sparrow.”

While the new ‘do is likely for her role as a Russian spy in the film, we aren’t sure if it’s wig or an actual chop. She looks so fabulous that we’re hoping this fringe is here to stay.

Lawrence is no stranger to changing up her ‘do. From bobs to pixies to even different types of bangs, she’s tried it all.

While the actress has been a blonde for most of her career, in May 2016, she stepped out with platinum locks that created instant summer hair color inspiration.

This flirty bob looks inspired by flapper girls in the ’20s.

This haircut was the result of her grown-out pixie — but the slicked-back style really works for her.

She made the chop into a pixie in 2013 after explaining that her hair was fried from being overprocessed.

Months before making the big cut, Lawrence had cascading, light brown tresses, which made it even more shocking when she went for such a drastic and dramatic look.

But that wasn’t the darkest hair color she’s had. In 2012, she had chestnut brown locks and a completely different look.

And then there was the period in 2012 when she had blunt bangs and strawberry blond hair.

Before that, in 2010 when her career was just beginning to kick off, she really looked like the girl next door with these soft curls.

Short or long, dark or blonde, bangs or no bangs, it seems like Lawrence can rock any hairstyle.

What will she try next?
