When objects overlap, one tends to look bigger than the other, just like the white can seems bigger than the grey can.

In other news, I finally ordered a new desktop computer: Core 2 Duo E4400, P35 Motherboard, 2GB RAM, 500GB HD, GeForce 7300. It's supposedly coming (much assembly required) on Monday.
So expect better quality pictures from now on. Well, not really.
“Overlap”

The terms “overlap”, “overlapping talk/ speech” or “simultaneous talk/speech” are used interchangeably to refer to talk taking place at the same time by two or more interlocutors.
A Wedding ceremony can be seen as an event that would involve elaborated rituals. In most cultures like Iran the variety of such rituals, practicing somehow differently from one area to another, makes generalizations difficult. But placing the rituals in their larger cultural context would prove some similar features in their symbolic functions and cultural implications. I believe wedding videos are valid documents for a better understanding of a specific time, place and more broadly a culture. Through the process of a research project, these videos could also be unique sources of memory and observation of a specific moment in time and its dynamism. Here in this project, having an intimate conversation with family members of the groom and bride (my own family) and their memories provide contextual resources for cultural and social interpretations.
This ongoing project consists of three main parts, a video, subtitle texts on screens and an installation. The segments of this phase have been drawn from the original wedding video taken in 1993 in Yazd, Iran (my parents’ birthplace) together with background conversation sound effect talking about the event, commenting on a particular issue, topic or a person. These conversations include narrations made by the actual family members who were present at the wed- ding, paying specific attention to detail according to each individual narrator’s self-interest and experience of the ceremony. Each narration suggests a different interpretation of the video and memories causing overlaps of ideas and perceptions of that specific period of time when the wedding took place.
I am interested in experimenting with different forms of media and presentation and the ways they could involve the viewer. In this project, the audience gets involved in understanding the context of the video by trying to recognize the conversation, which is in Farsi and the English subtitle, corresponding them both to the video and participating in a complex process of integrating the texts with comments and pictures.
