True to its communal-casteist agenda, the YFE expressed apprehensions against increasing number of minority institutions "just to avoid 27% reservation". As far as their false and baseless allegations against the Left on the issue of paid seats, we would llk.e to remind them that the left has categorically stood against private universities. As far as setf-financed educational institutions are concerned, the left students' movement led by the SFI-AISF have always advocated social control on these institutions in the form of regulation of tees, imp4ementation of SC/ST quota etc .. The latest Kerala Education Bill speaks volume for the commitment of the left-democratic forces of our country against privatisation and commercialisation of education. Tt> distort the fact on the issue of paid seats vis-a-vis the left is nothing short of an 'election time non-serious rumour'. The Model Act proposed by the UGC during the NDA misrule and the Private and Foreign Universities bin brought by the UPA were both attempts to tamper with the intellectual self-reliance of the country. The left, democratic students movement mobilized students in our campus and other sections of the society all over the country to successfully thwart these sinister policies. Even in this era of neo· liberal policies, the fact that the UPA has increased allocations to education in two successive budgets (although it is still .

On all these issues of prime importance for the education sector in the country, the YFE has no position to ta.'k·e. As regards our campus issue too, the YFE has neither mentioned any agenda nor Its vision regarding its modet of JNUSU. Its only agenda is to oppose the sociaUy sensitive poltcy in our campus which has been built up painstakjngly by the common students under the banner of JNUSU. . . fiNANCIAL ASSISTANCE AGITATION. WHICH WAS SOLELY BASED ON THE ECONOMIC CRITERION? Actually, the YFE is a motley combination of all forms of reactionary elements that has a single-point agenda of anti-reservation. There rhetoric regarding the "Economic Criterion" is only to hide their shamele~ tace of casteism. .

UNITE AGAINST THE COMMUNAL FASCISTIC ABVP: .

It is only during election time that the ABVP is so bothered about the Muslims and the Campus issues in their pamphlets. Now, the ABVP is shredding crocodile tears over Muslims itself shows its rabid political opportunism. In the past the ABVP has repeatedly defended rts cause of Hlndutva and its agenda of minority bashing while alleging the left-democratic and secular forces for minority appeasement In fact, the misappropriation of the initiaJ findings of Prime Minister's High Level Committee Report headed by Justice Rajinder Sachar only reveals the fact that the Indian Muslims are not only under-represented in jobs and education but also faces discrimination and exclusion in the public domain instead of 'minority appeasemenf. Now, the fact of Muslim backwardness in terms of education and jobs are not new given the anti-people policies of both the BJP and Congress led governments at the centre. tf we go into the details of the Census 2001, the NSSO data (55th Round, 1999-00 marked by rerigion, Report No. 468, 2001 ), India Human Development Report and the available literature on Muslim deprivation in India then we will clearly see that the Indian Muslims have not done well when compared with other religious groups in a whole lot of parameters of soda-economic development across all states. In this regard, the Left parties in the parliament are demanding 15% of the total budgetary allocation for mjnority affairs in order to uplift the socio-economic status of Indian Muslims. The whole world knows the communal and fascistic character of Sangh giroh affiliated ABVP. .

The ABVP, being an anti-student organization, raise the campus level issues only during elections while totally being absent from struggles and movements for the student issues for the entire year. The ABVP's absence in the entire agitation on financial assistance and its attempts to sabotage the agitation exposes its anti-student character and no concern for genuine issues ofthe students. .

In this context, we urge upon the student community to isolate the casteist-communal YFE-ABVP combine and be vigilant against the disruptive and divisive politics of the reactionary forces in our campus. We appeal to the entire student community to rally behind the SFI-AJSF alliance in the coming JNUSU elections in order to take our struggle for financial assistance to higher stages and strengthen the movement In defence of our universities and Intellectual self-relianceI .
