During my recent visit to the Outer Banks of North Carolina on February 1-3, my main objective was to capture my first Milky Way image rising over the horizon and over the old wooden pier at Avon Beach.
I set up my D750 in one site and had it shooting a time lapse of the Milky Way rising over the ocean with a 24mm lens and then I used the D850 and took different Milky Way images first using a 50mm 1.8g lens then later switch to a 14mm f2.4 lens for broader captures.
Before you know it the blue hour came in and started washing out the Milky Way then a little while longer and I had my sunrise.
By sunrise I had moved on to a site north of Avon for some dune sunrise images.

Sustenance is what is needed at this hour. Everything is travelling at lightspeed and one is forsaken, clasping onto dark matter as though the comprehension of it all just seems to want to stop and smell the roses. There is the idea of letting go of one's comfort-zone, allowing gravity to dislocate oneself back into consciousness through the wake-up call implanted by the languishing awareness surreptitiously triggered by the engrossing struggle of the hopes of future endeavors. There is the forgetful nature of being drawn towards salutary requirements; and even with the intentions, hindrances can follow, consigning to oblivion.
Found under a log, so I broke out the UV light. After that I kept on searching with the light and realized they were everywhere. Probably saw 20, at least.
A quick trip to the Outer Banks (OBX to folks around these parts) in search of some delicious fresh seafood turned even better when the westward cloud bank somewhat surprisingly pushed south and broke apart, leaving a nice path for sunset light to burst through and put on quite a beautiful show over the iconic Bodie Island Light Station, in the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, North Carolina.
This lighthouse and its surrounds may be among the most photographed places in the Carolinas, but during the cold season you can have the place to yourself, or nearly so, most sunrises and sunsets. It's absolutely worth the extra fleece layer or two. I only wish the light was set come on a little earlier before dark (this is about 20 mins after sunset, and the light still wasn't on). Like a mariner from the age of sail, I would have been very heartened to see the lighthouse's rotating beam, and I really would have liked to have a sunstar from that light in this image. But, alas, 'twas not to be.
Thanks for viewing!
45 minutes after sunset the geomagnetic forces were visible to the naked eye here in Arizona. With some nudging from Photoshop I managed to bring some life into these underexposed images.
