Katerina Undo Creatures Cluster, 2014
Creatures Cluster is an endless combination of living members, composed by miniature robots that live autonomously, receiving their energy from solar cells and generating a variety of soft sounds and tiny movements. The Creatures are developed with two simple analogue oscillator circuits, inspired from the nervous system of organisms. Every module is special and unique and it is impossible to build exact equal. According to the interaction that occurs between them, clusters/systems are developed that organically interact with each other in a reciprocal way. The sculptural and auditory nature of the synthesis – radiation of the chaotic – refers to the functioning of a nervous system, as well as to systems of social cooperation and alliances.

The RizeTrionic is a Tea chest synth that has dual square wave oscillators, a chopper circuit to trigger them and 2 filter circuits.
The LM324 quad op-amp chip is nearest the camera. The timing capacitor is a 2.0uF type, rated at several hundred volts, recycled from an old valve (vacuum-tube) NMR machine. I could probably fit an even bigger one, to get the frequency lower still. It's down to about 1Hz now, which is OK for a synthesiser LFO, but I'd prefer it to go even slower.
In order to disable the clock during sleep, the trace from R41 to VIO was cut. (VIO is always on). R41 provides the pull-up for the 26MHz oscillator enable pin. A connection was then made from R41 to VPLL1 (C86). VPLL1 can be turned off during sleep.
If you'd like to not scratch the trace, you can lift one side of R41 instead.

4017 LED Knight Rider Running Light Circuit Diagram
In this 4017 Knight Rider circuit, the 555 is wired as an oscillator. It can be adjusted to give the desired speed for the display. The output of the 555 is directly connected to the input of a Johnson Counter (CD 4017).
sketch done w Paint of a dual "Atari punk console" & analog 8 step sequencer I plan to build and house in an old wooden speaker cabinet. Blue LEDs for each oscillator and each of 8 steps; red LED for the power. The knobs are brushed aluminum, as will be the faceplate. I think the aluminum finish will look great and kinda 70's Hi-Fi stereo-like in the wood cab.

SMS303 Tantek Tanrak (9 module Modular FX):
- Modulation Oscillator
- Multi Delay
- Fader-Panner
- Dynamic Noise Filter 2
Info:
Mid 1980's Tantek, Tanrak Studio Effects Rack which was available in kit form or ready built. On the face of it, they're simple analogue effects - a bit old-fashioned, really - but that's the charm of them. They've perfectly useable and immediately accessible, so you'll have great fun fiddling with the settings - try sweeping the EQ frequency, or riding the delay time for on-the-fly munchkinisation, for instance.
Even better, you'll find new ways to patch the modules together. Everything - in, out and sidechain - is accessible from the rear panel (there's a default path from left to right across the rack if you don't want to use patch cords) so you can create LFO-modulated delay effects, frequency-sensitive compression ... you think of it, you can do it.
MULTI-DELAY - This exciting module opens the way to high quality time domain effects including ADT, chorus, echo, vibrato and reverb. It features a built-in limiter, auto-optimising bandwidth, true spatial stereo outputs and multi reflection reverberation.
MODULATION OSCILLATOR - A CV modulation source whose features include sinewave output, variable duty cycle, key or CV controlled depth, triggerable sweeps and two independently variable outputs. Used with the muli-dealy to create chorus, flanging etc.
DYNAMIC NOISE FILTER - An effective single ended, easy to use, stereo noise reducer which will be found invaluable in any home studio set up to enhance the signal to noise ratio of outboard effects including those which exhibit digital quantisation noise.
"an ingenious electronic brain", no less.
The Bulova Accutron is regulated by a tiny tuning fork excited by two electromagnets that are driven by a _very_ small (for the time) 1 transistor oscillator. The oscillations of the tuning fork are geared down to drive the hands, hence the fact they sweep rather than tick. If you sit the thing on a set of drawers by your bed you can hear it sing all night long.
The Accutron movement was used to regulate time in the cockpit instruments of Apollo 11. And was also used to regulate time in a data transmitter left on the moon in the Sea of Tranquillity.
Finally made success!
My first thermoacoustic oscillator.
Input power: 60 W at 12V, 2.4 Ohm NiCr (Nichrome) wire.
They call it thermo-acoustic, because once fingers burned one may produce very loud screaming, as I did. :o)
For friends and lovers of ambient spacy sound: Free 31 min track Space
made with my X-Station 25 from NOVATION.
The X-Station 25 is a small desktop synth with ? keys (how many do you think?) 3 Oscillators, Lfos, Filters, Effects, Arpeggiator and else make a lot of fun. There's a lot of power in this small synth and one of the greatest possibilities is that it's also running with batteries. So you can take it with you outside in the park and make a gig.
What i hate is the only in english referendum. There's too much of technical description what i don't understand.
The USB connectioned editor is a nice thing, because the X-Station isn't new on the market and i think first in the last time USB is standart for hardware synthesizers. But whatfore as i can't activate it in any way, and im surely not absolutely stupid in digital technics.
That's a shame, but not important, because so or so i prefer to make my music with my hardware.
You can see what a favourite Rex was! Only this year (July 2013) I met up with the lad second on the right for the first time since 1957. I think we were both disappointed when neither of us recognised each other! And here was me thinking I hadn't changed all that much since those days!!! Some hope . . . .

new CD recalls the ruthless energy and shorter attention span of BSI’s cassettes from the 1980s.
'Manitou' is a wild ride: a patchwork of huge analog drones, mutant caffeinated space-punk,
musique concrete, krautrock-style jams, distorted industrial stomp, and deep electronic mind
candy. This collection includes a new remake of the classic BSI track 'The Moss Takes Over'
which first appeared in the 1990 cassette “Infinite Sky.” Guest musicians include members of
Insect Factory, Pilesar, Violet, Tag Cloud, and Timmy Sells His Soul. The result is an
hour-long celebration of reckless improvisation and joyful nightmares.

The internal battery keeps the crystal oscillator (for the game's clock) running. The save is stored in a chip.
Here's a Yamaha PSS-6, circuit-bent, and with my magnetic patch bay added on the rear panel. The idea goes back to when I used magnets to hold a wire in place, bridging the 2 body contacts on my first bent synth (the Odor Box, c. 1967) so I could adjust the other controls (freeing my hands from the contacts). This patch system opens up lots of great alternatives for signal routing and mixing...
A Westinghouse Electric Fan, dating from about 1910 -1915. This one is 12", with six brass blades, brass cage, and an oscillator. As long as you keep them lubricated, these 100 year old fans are pretty much indestructible.
I finally put The "Quadratic Cascading Intersidereal Noisificator" (or/ou) Le "Bruitificateur Intersidéral Quadratique en Cascade" into a box.
Demo/video here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1R5tSgpF0Qo .
The thing is based on a cascading series of 4 oscillators made using a quad NAND gate CMOS chip (4093), wherein the first oscillator is gated by a 555 oscillator, which itself can be affected with another 555 (called the Saccadeur -- which can sort of be translated from french as stutterer or jerker).
Other features: power sag control for the 4093 and an external input which adds extra gating between the 2nd & 3rd oscillators.
Now owned by sound artist/noisemaker Magali Babin after a few changes she requested (trig in jack replaced by volume control, RCA out jack replaced by 1/4" jack -- these changes are not reflected in the photo).
