My father, taken in the nursing home where he now lives (he suffers with Alzheimer's). Before his Alzhiemer's he hated having his photo taken, I think I have more shots of the palm of his hand as he'd block his face or cover the lens than I do of him proper.
Shot using the daylight from the East facing window, topped off with some fill-in from my flash using an Orbis ring flash.

I'm pretty sure this is a plumeria / frangipani. In any case, it was one of the many flowers in the Begonia House.

Day 198 of 365
"Beauty Portrait of a Beetle"
So, I found this little guy in the yard today......post mortem. I postponed my other two concepts for the day, and set up for this beauty portrait. After inserting the required....chair, we were on our way. Our key light is a ringflash, and it provides the specular highlights in the exoskeleton, and fills in all the shadows. I then brought in a gridded beauty dish directly above, and it works to give us some separation from the black background. Who knew a figeater beetle had so many parts?!!! Thanks for stopping in.
