Ah, it's term paper time again. At least I have my assistant close at hand.

Elsie can't imagine why I need a manual of style when the most stylish cat in Portland is sitting right in front of me. See the neatly folded paw?

Elsie's former human associates had to surrender her to a no-kill shelter because they couldn't take her with them when they moved.

She was at the shelter for eight long months until I arrived on the scene as a volunteer. It was love at first sight.

Elsie's former family must have been loving people, because she's a very happy, healthy and playful cat at 17 years old.

Elsie, who's more disciplined than I am, has a rich mindfulness practice. On most days, she stares at the side of the tub and lets the sound of the shower carry her away.

Here, her sideways ears and twitching tail tell me I'm intruding upon her space.

Sorry, Elsie.

Each of us is satisfied with the result of the project, though for different reasons.

I am glad to have the coats off the closet floor and delighted I was able to install the new hardware without breaking out the electric drill and the drill bits and the extension cord, etc.

Elsie's just pleased to have her closet hideway back.

I bought a couple of mini trees to use in deer photos and Dexter decided they were for him. Moments after this photo was taken he tried to eat the blue tree and nearly knocked the red tree into his food bowl. I need a better behaved photo assistant.

Most of the morning was a slow motion contest in which Elsie tried to work her way onto my warm keyboard and I patiently guided her back to her comfy mat atop my scanner.

Finally Elsie found a win-win solution: she got to lie down on a surface of her choice, and I didn't have to worry about my papers getting away from me.

I do respect a cat who will look you in the eye.

It's how he starts his day, waiting at the faucet after a few bites of kibble. He is definitely in a rut, but oh so cute! Happy Sunday everyone!

It's my deck but I'm willing to share it with you.

I was just napping...

Jan 31, 2025: The kitties again, in one of their snuggly moments. ArtRage, printer ink, water color and markers.

Elsie, a cat with exceptionally good political instincts, says the Republican campaign is a dog's breakfast.

Need I say more .....? Xmas is getting close - The cats are looking for Santa

I’ve been teaching him sign language since he went deaf. Right ear up means “drink”. Left ear up means “sardines”.

Henry Orange Monster, Lucinda the Tuxie, and Senior Cat Emma wish everyone a happy & healthy 2019!

After a long struggle with age related illness, Downyflake is back to climbing to the highest "peak" in the house. About ceiling fan level.

Amazing recovery!

Frank has been under the weather, so Elsie has been a very attentive nurse lately.

Nothing like a nice warm fireplace on a chilly day.

Often, when I open the linen closet, Elsie's there as eager to hop into her little nest as if she were discovering it for the very first time.

Elsie's a very young 14 and has maintained her youth without ever having given antioxidants a thought.

just before he sidles along to attack the Elephant Foot plant !... his favorite !!!

it was a hard day

Of the 12 cats I've lived with over the last 40 years (currently 6), Fuzzybee tops them all with his need to be close.

Hoy es el día en que la primavera llegó a Portland.

Aunque hay que esperar un poco más de una semana para que llegue el equinoccio, ya tenemos cielos azules con sol y temperaturas cálidas.

Elsie relaxes on the bed in the morning sun.

This is the day spring arrived in Portland.

We still have a week to go before the equinox, but the skies are blue with sun and warm temperatures.

Putting up with my Flickr habit.

Thank you, Enki.

This morning Elsie and Dot were convinced we had it in for them. A 9-hour car ride to Idaho was imminent, no doubt. Actually, we were just stirring a little earlier than usual. No matter. Within minutes of when I took this photo, Elsie had joined Dot under the bed.
