While I was never a hard core Trekkie, I'm a big believer that Star Trek has had a huge impact on how we have invented our future - but perhaps more important, how we view that future.
On the first point, consider the devices which were imagined in the 60’s that are a part of our world today: real-time language translation; video-chat, personal communicators, wearable medical devices and tri-corders! Somehow the writers imagined our today, yesterday (as did those involved in the Jetsons and other shows within the 60’s.) And while Star Trek is not necessarily known for painting an optimistic, rosy view of the future, it certainly seems more hopeful than some other fictional movies and TV shows.
Consider “Agent Smith” in The Matrix: “As a species, human beings define their reality through suffering and misery." Not terribly inspiring, that.
You know your future is what you make it. You fully comprehend that it is the steps that you take, the path you consider, and the choices along the way that will decide your direction.
It should be pretty obvious that you should let optimism be your guide.

Optimism can always overcome pessimism.
In that context, the future is still full of opportunity - and you are richer than you think!

The double standards that women expect men to meet via toxic feminism, gamification of dating, the 666-rule(s), etc. are just insane and a huge part of why men are walking away from dating, relationships, and marriage and choosing to stay single for the rest of their adult life.
An optimistic view is better than a pessimistic one. Either lead, follow or get out of the way. We need to step up and do something. Any great ideas out there...? Liars, cheaters and incompetent; no need to reply. We only have room for the honest and hard working.
The universe doesn't care even if our small world blows up... It's our world, we need to care enough to change it for the better.

THis man is very happy and optimistic as the day begins. IT is people like him in his field who are at the greatest immediate risk...
If you come early, all the streets are filled with endless lines of people who make their lively hood through exporting goods. They will flow to work for at least an hour, nonstop with little other activity. A year ago these streets were filled with foreign buyers from all over the world. Now the streets are bare, and many wholesale shops are closed. It is such a contrast that its almost scary. Many of the migrant workers have fled by the millions home early for the Spring festival as jobs were lost. Those who remain are the most desperate. China is attempting to and must focus on emergent markets if it is going to survive this economic slowdown. After many years of double digit growth, a growth forecasted at only 5% is going to cause tremendous stress for the economy. One especially magnified by the very large income gap which has been all but forgotten in the mainstream media. Local Chinese news offers little coverage of these grim scenes in an attempt to maintain domestic consumer confidence. As demand from the west slows, this charade will not be able to last much longer. As if they had a crystal ball, China cracked down on issuing visas for the 2008 Olympic games, and enforced slowdown in many areas of its domestic market. Investors slowed down to a trickle during the games do to the tight visa policies, and now even more so due to the economic crises. This was either a smart or a lucky move. If the economy didn?t slow gradually with the beginning of the Olympics continuing with the current crises; and rather slowed down all at once as within other nations the consequences would be dire.
