Yesterday, I was not too optimistic about producing a quality shot when I left my apartment. The sky was looking dark, and I could see rain in the distance. I have been to this swamp several times before, and I have never been able to find a great composition. It is simply such a chaotic mess of vegetation that finding a clean composition is very difficult. When I noticed that the sun was emitting crepuscular rays, I knew that I needed to have my camera pointed in that direction. Crepuscular rays are one of my favorite types of light phenomena. Having very little foreground to work with, I used the boardwalk as a leading line.

As far as processing is concerned, this image is a hand-blended composite of two exposures. This type of blend is always difficult with the trees in the distance.

As a closing note, always remember that you can't get lucky if you don't try.

I use 8 foot furring strips to stake my tomatoes. A practice I got used to in Indianapolis where tomatoes will grow up the stake and often back down to the ground. In northern Michigan however the neighbors think I am crazy. This year...we will see.
