Lighting candles and full of hopeful optimism, hundreds of South Sudanese led by deputy Vice President Wani Igga, commemorated the International Day of Peace in the capital Juba, under the theme, ‘Peace is a Human Right’.
Allowing their candles to continue burning as a sign of a new beginning, students, members of the civil society, the diplomatic community and officials from the United Nations listened to speakers who all highlighted the need to build on a recently signed peace agreement.
South Sudan Vice President Wani Igga shouts: International Peace Day Oyee! South Sudan Oyee! Revitalized Peace agreement Oyee! Mr. Wani Igga later said, “Less than 10 days ago, we the people signed the revitalized peace agreement. This is a great joy…..”
Every year, the International Day of Peace is commemorated globally, and this year, the United Nations is encouraging people to “promote and defend human rights for all, in the name of lasting peace for all”.
Eugene Nindorera, United Nations Mission in South Sudan Human Rights chief said, “Peace will not be attained until there is trust between the parties and a renewed trust between the people of this young nation and their leaders.” adding that, “One step to achieving this will be clear evidence that the warring factions have the political will to stop fighting and to lay down their guns as they have undertaken to do. This can no longer be a hope or a dream for the people of South Sudan who have suffered for far too long, rather, all South Sudanese have the right to peace, a right live safely with dignity in their own homes, [and] a right to see their children reach their full potential.”

While in Mexico, we kept seeing building and structures that looked as if there was supposed to be a second story or more, but anything above the ground level was unfinished. There were always beams jutting up with bits of rebar or, like this one, power lines coming out. Mary commented that it seemed that while, perhaps the owners of these buildings didn't have the money to finish them, it was a pervasive sign of optimism that everyone was planning for the day they would be able to finish the additional construction on their buildings.
I thought that was a wonderful way to look at it. :)

So with all the work I've had lately, it seems the onlytime I pick up my camera is when I'm alone in my apartment, late at night...
This feeling will probably go away once the cold kicks in but on my way home today I got a glimpse of the first christmas lights. In the city the christmas market is opening...Th festival of light is coming up and friday will be the first snow...
I'll be home in a month's time =)

the lovely kitchen is sadly lit and can often be dreary. when i sit at the table, the hallway light streams in from the main space. this makes me feel optimistic.

My beautiful friend Heather in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, at her dad's cabin. We had so much fun in this trip! This is my first attempt at photoshop ever. I have been so hesitant to post this or any photoshop I have ever done because clearly I expect myself to be as amazing as Brooke Shaden within the first month of teaching myself photoshop...how ridiculous is that!?!!
I realized that I am having so much fun learning photography that I should be enjoying my journey with you and getting your constructive criticism which is vital in order to evolve into being a true artist.
It occurs to me that I really want to be a good artist :)
