For me optimism is two lovers walking into the sunset arm in arm. Or maybe into the sunrise - whatever appeals to you.
Krzysztof Kieslowski
A photograph taken a year or so ago, when on holiday in Dartmoor. The weather was hideous we were fairly high up at this point, and the cloud started coming thickly down until it submerged the whole area. I admit that at this point I personally wished that i had not read quite as many Steven King books. The irony of having an ice cream van, ever hopeful of a British summer though amused me.
Well if anyone knows me, or knows my work, I am really not much for optimism. Expect the worst, and you won't be disappointed, how terrible, and what a stupid way to live. It is so hard to change, but I am trying... it is difficult to change after so many years, so I am not there, I don't know if I will ever be, but I can't give up. I know now if I did give up, what is there to live for... and I want to live, truly LIVE!
Now of course... a quote :)
“Know what you want to do, hold the thought firmly, and do every day what should be done, and every sunset will see you that much nearer the goal.”
-Elbert Hubbard
I was going to use this until I thought about things:
“What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime. It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset.”
-Crowfoot
Its like answering the famous question ...
Is the glass half-empty OR is the glass half-full?
In this case...
Will i climb Or will i Fall?
Optimism is about shifting the odds in our favor. Its about training oneself to make good decisions when faced with crisis situations. Its about hanging in there and working against negative forces . Its the confidence inside us , our own capability to improve our own situations!....
BELEIVE IN YOURSELF!
playing with post processing
awaiting yet another snowstorm of measurable inches ~sigh~.......... so was looking thru a kaleidoscope/teleidoscope with my camera again. found this pic that i liked but the dust and cat hairs distracted, so i was taking them out and playing with sliders and *voila* an abstract ~grin~
often wondered if i should leave the 'how i did it' out-- would that make it more mysterious??
oh, i just realized i could use this for:
scavenger3 "how did you do that?"
and
scavchal16-- i'd say an optimist ~grin~
looks hot hot hot on black ~grin~
COCA-COLA SIDE OF LIFE ART REMIX
Since its early days, Coca-Cola has played an eminent role in the visual culture of several generations.
By continually challenging artists and agencies to create images for its wide range of communication, Coca-Cola also functioned as a catalyst for creative expressions, right ideas at the right time…
The original Coca-Cola illustrations were drawn by masters as Haddon Sundblom or Gil Elvgren with their loving, magical touch. Some of the early Coke images are playful, romantic, cartoony, imaginative; others are trendy and stylized but they are always signs of their times.
The concept of the Remix project is simple. Every selected artist makes a “Coke Side of Life” Remix of historic Coca-Cola visuals and creates a new visual inspired by the brand and its soul, a thematic interpretation.

"An optimist is the human personification of Spring." ~Susan J. Bissonette
M4H Project 52/Week 18: Weather.
I know I shouldn't because I'm an adult and all, but secretly, I love dandelion weather.
Workplace photo probably taken in the late 40's in New York City. Great faces. Thoroughly American look. None of my Italian vintage photos from the same period communicates anything similar. The vast majority of the women were Italian-American, first and second generations. "Me" is my mother.
This photo inspired a Reddit Poetry Contest, "write a poem inspired by this photo,". The poems can be read below in comments or you can go to this link.
London General route 11: Fulham Broadway, Fulham Town Hall - Liverpool Street Station.
Approaching Liverpool Street Station.
Check out the construction workers smiling towards me and the camera in realisation of what I am photographing. This added to my optimism of route 11 being given Borismasters. I was highly anticipating a nice ride, and other Borismasters that passed me on the route whilst en route Liverpool Street were surprisingly empty so that kind of confirmed to me that the buses would not be packed and horrible like route 24's first day of Borismasters. Note there is no hybrid sticker.

The tie is one I collected from a Pfizer drug rep when Viagra first came out. For some strange reason, this hopeful guy is the only one I could get to wear it for me!
This Is an illustration based on a quote about optimism, could not find the author of the quote so if anyone knows please give us a shout!
The illustration should hopefully be included in a self published book with all the proceeds going to support those in need. Those are the only details I know, more news soon..
I could have watched the new season of Orange is the new Black today. I could have seen Kevin Spacey tear it up in House of Cards. Or I could have looked at cars on the internet.
Instead, I went outside and watched this.
I regret nothing.
"life is good" redux.
It's a progress report. I already posted a shot of this fine setup over a year ago and at the time I thought what was there was just a start and was going to get even better and it did. More slogans added to the effect that life is good and beach is all you need. What you see is only a part of the whole thing, there are more flags, more artificial palms, more everything . Basically it is a very localised , confined to a small garden , explosion of optimism.
Which reminded me an old silly joke:
pessimist: "it just can't get any worse!"
optimist: "Oh I am sure it can!"
anyway, apart from enjoying the scene I also thought wouldn't that be fun if I had a spare house next door to this one and lots of time on my hands and money to waste , to setup , merely as an art act , an alternative display "Life sucks"..
IT would be a fine selection of skulls, skeletons, black flags, posters "I wanna die" , "Life is hard but fortunately short", "No future" etc etc , maybe a few stuffed animals you know .
I recon that would be awesome duo.
But sadly I have no spare house next door , no money to waste and basically no spare time, so life basically sucks ..
as for the optimistic lot in this house I am sure they have this tune on repeat:
Sometimes you shoot things that you just like. I don't know why, but the balance just appeals to something.
I like this.
The pessimist will probably view this photo and see a restless person who can't sleep or see the beginning of a brand new day. The optimist will probably view this photo and see the beginning of a brand new day or see a tired person going to get some sleep. How do you see it? Let me know by leaving a comment below.

This Optimist Dinghy sailboat was part of a children's sailing lesson fleet which sailed out of Falmouth Harbor to practice drills in Nantucket Sound.
