"...I have spent the last 4 years living in this van as I traveled through 49 states for fun and to complete my medical degree at various clinical institutions around the US. I could have stuck it out in one hospital the whole time like my classmates, but I saw the oppurtunity to roam in my van and grasped it. The pictures you see here are from the last two years only, as this is when I bought my digital camera..."
Hedleyhope colliery closed around 1960 as part of the NCBs disposal of uneconomic pits, its closure was anticipated by the mines managers and they saw an oppurtunity in this. In the decade preceeding closure the mine managers employed a number of their miners to drive a drift south of the site under farmland into a shallow unworked coal seam ,upon the miners accessing the seam of coal the drift was abandoned and the miners sent back to winding down the old districts.
The Hedleyhope managers hoped that after the main colliery site was closed by their employers the NCB , they would be able to buy the small wedge of land incorporating the site access road ,the above bridge across the river and their drift which had already been built for them at the NCBs expense, and work out this last section of untouched coal as a sort of nest egg.
What they were not aware of, is that the very coal seam the drift they had installed a decade earlier to access was already earmarked for opencast extraction, farmland just south of the site was extensively opencasted in the 60s and 70s and the seams completely removed rendering the drift useless, interestingly their work survived intact until around 1992 when the modern concrete and steel lined inclined drift was finally backfilled and landscaped.
my brother simon always spots little oppurtunitys to photo anything he this will make a nice photo, this is one of them.
_I passed this building a bunch of time when I was in the car and I thought it was the coolest thing! It's so vibrant and beautiful and the balloon arches just make it look like a fantasy (:

Day off. Slept in. Decided to meet Nancy for the free program at the Jewish Museum - I'd not been there before. The building is beautiful, the program heavy and sad. Nancy has errands and a blind date to prepare for, so I venture alone afterward. Stopped by the new Otto for a slice of pizza. The new Otto is where the North Star Cafe was. What a transformation! Nice interior. At 3pm, with the sunlight and the soft music and the few people eating, it had a coffeeshop feel. Wished for a book to read and to stay a bit. So cold outside, but I decide to walk to the Eastern Prom and to see the sea. I did a bit of surveillance, too, but only in passing, only a bit curious. At the prom, sledders! Looks fun, but so cold - and I realize that I don't even have snow gear, nothing warm. Maybe I'd better start conducting myself as a Mainer - long underwear, maybe, or snow pants? I'd hate to miss an oppurtunity for sledding. I walk home, It's Blitz! in my ears, stop off at CVS for some insoles.
A cherished project of mine to capture and document the life by the gigantic river Brahmaputra that enters India in the north-eastern frontier state of Arunachal, travels through Assam and has its confluence with the ocean in Bengal.

Tom Hall played at Harvest Sessions on Saturday, October 20 from 10:00 a.m. until noon. Harvest Sessions is presented by KDHX Community Media, The Whitaker Foundation and Tower Grove Farmers' Market and takes place every Saturday at the West Pool Pavilion in Tower Grove Park for the duration of Tower Grove Farmers' Market's regular season. Tom Hall has been performing for over twenty years and has won national and local acclaim for his exceptional blues guitar work. Harvest Sessions is free and open to the public.
Tom Hall has played in countless bands, but his solo performances truly capture audiences. He wanders through the sounds of Argentina, Ireland and Africa, but he always returns to his musical roots. When he is playing Mississippi-inspired blues, he shines like his signature National guitar. If you have not yet seen Hall play live, don't miss this oppurtunity to catch one of St. Louis' most talented artists.
The 2007 inaugural season of Harvest Sessions has featured great concerts from local and regional performers. With Tower Grove Farmers' Market as the backdrop, Harvest Sessions also hosted an International and Children's Series that proved very popular in the community. KDHX Community Media, The Whitaker Foundation and Tower Grove Farmers' Market are proud to sponsor this free concert series on Saturday morning.

Taken at the start of the womens tour 2014 in Oundle, Unfortunatley (or fortunatly dependant of your view point) I got stuck in a traffic jam due to the rolling road closures for 20min, so took the oppurtunity to grab the camera and get some shots as they passed by
The plumbers who replaced the waste lines in March did not replace the kitchen sink lateral, by agreement. But, as we discovered the morning of the fire, they didn't hook the old kitchen sink lateral back up to the new waste line. A major failure to communicate. The fire delayed this repair by three months, but also provided us an ideal oppurtunity to fix it, since the floors had mostly been torn out anyway, and the repair work could be done before new flooring went in again.
Taken on Wednesday 11th May whilst on my way back to my native Wythenshawe, which (for those wondering) is in Manchester, seven miles south of the heart of Manchester and within a stones throw of Manchester Airport (hence the title).
Taken whilst heading back from the RAF Museum in Cosford with a few friends, we accidentaly came this way and this was a perfect oppurtunity to take this shot for posteriety.
It's a shot of the A41 in Tong, a rural area about mile north of Cosford, this is not far from Junction 3 of the M54.
The A41 southbound continues towards Wolverhampton, Birmingham and later London.

So I've been planning on doing a project for a while, and I had some ideas. "What I want to do before I die" was one of them.
So then when I was at the county fair, I was completely caught off guard at him being there. I didn't know who he was, but my friend did, and he had a swarm of people around him, so then I just asked if he would like to participate.
So I wasn't really able to think of a better idea so then I just asked him about this.
I'll probably change my project in the future.
Yeah, so this is Matthew Underwood from Zoey 101.
this is such a bad picture.
i didn't know how to use the flash on my camera yet since i haven't had the oppurtunity to. so then when i finally figured it out, the photo still came out weird. since i was on a weird setting. so this is what the picture is. it's not blurry and it's not as dark.

My Sweden didn't only lose to Germany, they also did a really bad game. And there was a obviously drunk maniac running around the field blowing a whistle and waving with some card...
Flickr feels like a good place for me to let out my disappointment, becaus it also gives me the oppurtunity to give my congratulations to my German friends.
The only time the weather cleared the entire weekend was when I was at the arch, it led to some great photographic oppurtunities.
Ahh, such a lovely day today! I'm so glad it rained for a little bit, it gave me an oppurtunity to take some water pictures!
Another sunset photo oppurtunity on the American River in Sacramento. Very glad to see the sky show some great clouds during the final light. The only people remaining afterward were the fisherman who used flashlights occasionally for viewing. Did several compositions with the Tamron 10-24mm lens. Turns out that the shorter exposure was more preferred than having the movement in the clouds which were moving fast due to the wind. This is a single raw image edited in LR.
When Alice was little and first was living with me she liked to sleep with her head next to my face and would bury her nose in my hair. Very quickly though she decided that Maggie was her best friend and started cuddling up to her at every oppurtunity. Maggie was already 10 when Alice came along and wasn't too crazy about all of the chaos that goes along with having a puppy in the house. She was a very kind and tolerant dog though and put up with everything that Alice threw her way. They ended up becoming the best of friends.

I have the oppurtunity to go shooting since today, MONDAY, August 31, the last Monday of August is declared National Heroes Day or the Cry of Balintawak also called Cry of Pugadlawin, and is therefore a non-working holiday.
Me, my eldest daughter and my wife wook up early to go to this place.
Recent trip to Halls Gap, took us to Mackenzie waterfalls lookout. Would have loved to gone to the base, but didn't have the oppurtunity.

Thought I'd use the oppurtunity to take some scenic photos as I found myself wondering where the bloody hell 'Bloomfield' was near Taunton. Ended up wandering in all kinds of directions and found this great spot.
On a visit to Hohenwerfen Fortress we visted the bird of pray flight show. It was a fabulous show with lots of fantastic birds, and a great oppurtunity to practice on photographing these big and agile birds.
Unfortunatly the light was really challenging forcing me to high ISO (up to 1600 on several shots), which my D5000 is not that fond of. That said, 5 minutes after the show ended, it started raining - so all in all we were pretty lucky.
For this I hand held using my Nikon 18-200mm VRII @ 170mm. No crop.
I was hoping to escape the cold, dreary weather in Omaha, NE during spring break but I guess it followed me to Chattanooga. It's such a shame since Tennessee is a beautiful, picturesque state and I didn't have the oppurtunity to take some shots.

Hanging around the photography department at B&H with Stu Helm (@stuhelm on the Twitter). He came to NYC for a couple of weeks, so I took advantage of the oppurtunity to meet him in person.
Shot this with the store's Nikkor AF-S VR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED-IF (which can be seen in flickr.com/photos/mikeperl/3305626584/) mounted on my D40. B&H is truly a great store.
