I never had the oppurtunity to visit the local Six-spot colony this summer so here's one from last year.

I've uploaded all these 4 images in bulk as I got them all in one day, a busy one at that.
Next week I will be displaying some of my work for young kids as they wander around our sports hall with the interest of Biology, Physics and Chemistry. They will have to match up the photo to the insect infront of them, so it should be a lot of fun, and hence the many images I've uploaded all at once.
On a quick trip to some woodland by our university, I looked under some old rotten wood and stones finding Beetles, spiders, Larvae and some woodlice !
It gave for a great oppurtunity for some early Spring photographing and the quality with the £30 objective I have retained for all 4 specimens !
Got my Nikon M plan 5x ordered so should be here soon for even sharper images !
During this Summer Break, I took the oppurtunity to participate in a teaching program organized by a school club that I am currently involved in. We visited a local school in Pakkret, Thailand where we taught Primary school children the basic skills of English.
On one particular week, my peers and I focused our lesson on 'emotions'. We drew different expressions on the whiteboard along with the vocabulary that goes along with it. Not only did the kids enjoy the new knowledge they gained that day, they were also able to express their creativity on the lesson we taught them, just as this kid pictured above has done.

What a day! The community has been great and I worked hard to get caught up on projects. In light of everything I have been getting a lot of good news. I am thankful for the changes and opportunities on the horizon.
Hello ladies and welcome to your ninth week of BNTM! I'm your host/judge, Mia Hill, and here is your co-judge Nicole Smith (representing Fallen Star). You three have come a long way since the first couple of weeks! From Date night to The Times...but now, only two of you will get a chance at the top model name. But don't worry; if you don't get into the finale, you won't leave empty handed. The top three will each get a dedicational photo. The top two will both get the oppurtunity as a guest judge for an episode in cycle 2 along with dedicational photos. Mia: Alesana your fashion is very modern and makeup! But everything else is not very modern. You look like you are a modern styler in the medieval era. The ground is dirty, and the background is very dull. I am also not the biggest fan of that bun; it is very "Lady GaGa", but she is modern so it is modern. I also don't like the pose girl! It is bearly even a pose; I think it not even a pose, and now I am sounding like Tyra Banks. Also looking at the camera is very modern, Alesana.
Nicole: I highly disagree with Mia; this photo is a job well done! You look very chic and modern in your bun and cute little dress. And I find that the background is working for this photo. The only thing I could really critize is your pose even though I like how you are looking off to the side. The main thing that troubles me is your left arm. Otherwise, this is an excellent photo! :D

Mia: Ummm.... i'm kinda speechless in a bad way. Once again, the editing is sloppy and un-neat. I also just don't like that dress. And the flash makes the photo super weird. But I love how the background is very furture-istic. Overall, this is an o.k. photo, but I want improvement, and the girl I saw in colors and Star Wars!
Nicole: The first thing I notice about this photo is the quality: it isn't your best. I know you can do better, girl! Overall, i am just not a big fan of this photo. The only thing I like about it is your outfit, but yet it still doesn't speak 'future' to me. And the bg is confusing and also takes the spotlight away from you. Also, your pose is very weak and repetitive from your last photoshoots. I agree with Mia in the sense that I want back the girl who did that awesome Star Wars photo!

Mia: O.K? Where do I start? I should start with the point that THIS DOES NOT LOOK LIKE PAST! You look like one of those ladies who walk around Paris with no shirt (gone extreme) on O_o not a cave person or somebody from the medieval era or early modern times. The pumps, and that stupid freaking spider ruin the photo for you. I like that the background (the part with plants) looks like a forest. Also that hair looks like the hair you used in your "elements: air" photo. Now I feel like Tyra Banks even more, but there is less editing! *faints* Wow, I didn't faint since ima Barbie Girl O_o. I like the quality too; it is very freaking darn clear!
Nicole: *looks up at Mia's judging* Um, don't you think that's a little harsh? Anyways, this photo is alright. I do like the fact that you are 'in the jungle' and that your hair is messy. But, I do have one issue: Why are you naked? I do NOT like that you aren't wearing any clothes. But, in contrast, I do like your pumps cuz they give the photo an edge ^_^. And lastly, your pose is very creative. But I don't like that you are facing away from us. It would have been better if you had flipped your body towards us, which would have been smexy! All in all, this isn't your worse, but we know you could do better.
Now that the judging is over, we can't WAIT to see who gets in. Don't you agree? I mean, this will decide your FATE for the rest of ETERNITY!!!!! Only if I had such an oppurtunity as this...why, I even remember a time when I myself entered a BNTM and, well, I wasn't too bad, and--

Now that there are beautiful flowers popping up all over Texas we are getting the much needed rain. However, my luck has been, working on the days it is sunny and off every day it is raining. Not had much of an oppurtunity to get out and photograph them yet. So, went looking in my file for something colorful and sunny. Found this from a couple of years ago,
This is the Wind Point Lighthouse in Racine, Wisconsin. It began functioning in 1880. At 108 feet, it is one of the tallest and oldest lighthouses still serving navigation on the Great Lakes.

Nice decor in the Food Republic food court of Vivo City. I'd seen it in zelciia's Food Republic Food Court photos, so of course it was worth a visit.
I loved how they made use of traditional building materials, including dark stained wood, roof tiles, lanterns, all in the traditional dark browns and bright reds.
Plus, it gave up more oppurtunities to continue our hawker food safari!

ROAD TRIP
I have been to Mexico many times. I have been there for business to places like Mexico City, Monterrey a Torreon. I have been to border towns Nogales, Tiajuana, and Juarez.
I love Mexico. I always wanted to share it with my kids. I wanted to go to a place with out tourists and I wanted the freedom to drive. I wanted to be on my own schedule. I didn't want the typical Mexican vacation with cowds of drunk Norte Americanos and kitschy souveniers.
I had always wanted to drive my own car and take my children for a foreign experience.
San Carlos Sonora was the perfect place. It took 17 hours to drive from Salt Lake. This was really not too bad. It takes just as long to drive to the place where I grew up in Northwest Washington. The trip down was gorgeous great weather. Not too hot. Beautiful views of State and National Parks. Great Sunrises and Sunsets.
San Carlos was amazing. I think it may have been off season, because there were absoulutely no crowds. It was still warm enough for swimming in the sea and in the out door pool.
I have many adventures for work. I travel all over the world. This was my oppurtunity to give my two little kids a taste of that same adventure. Parts of it were hard. That increased the adventure was all. To instil in them the sense that we could plan and then accomplish something that not many people get to do is an invaluable gift that I can pass on.
I plan to do this again. It will leave an indelible impression on these two little kids.

As one of the Official Photographers for the Worcester Music Festival I had the great oppurtunity to photograph some amazing acts. This was one of my favourite photos from the event. Her name is Becky Rose and I really liked how showing only so little in this shot shows so much.

Just to let people know that on Thursday 15th August there will be a training exercise held outside the ICC in Birmingham town centre.
One was held in Leeds last year. To keep the exercise as real as possible no details as to what the excercise will involve will be released until on the day.
It will involve ALL of the emergency services so should be a good oppurtunity to add to your collection of emergency vehicles
some times you just have so many great oppurtunities for photos, today was one of those days. I have at least 10 great shots from a quick 30 minutes of shooting

Still some photo's of last years weekend trip to Cologne. As you can see the sun was out (christmas period) and gave me the oppurtunity to shoot some great pictures of this amazing church.
A.K.A. 'Damn' toby, Patience toby, Jitter toby, fast toby etc. (-;
Grows up to 10cm. Looking at my original photographs some tips for other photographers:
- Get a small enough aperture. f/11 or smaller
- Set a shutterspeed of more than 1/80 (otherwise the toby won't be sharp enough). You need to set a high shutterspeed, because you'll be moving around very quickly to frame the toby.
- Take more than 10 or more photos (I'm very impatient) in order to get at least a usuable one. You'll have a lot of unsharp and 'just not it' photos in your serie.
- Get as much as a 'second eye' in the frame for a more pleasing photo.
- The eyes must be sharp, but that's a wellknown underwater photography tip. Humans are very focused on eyes.
- This fish like shallows and depths of 0-15 metres. Take the end of your dive and spend your safety stop time photographing this fish. Not much use chasing this fish at depth (unless it's a real oppurtunity such as more than 1 fish or a very relaxed subject)

Today was a really good day. I woke up and was in a super mood because last night was awesome (Description to come in a later picture). So, I got up around 6:50ish and went ahead and showered. I showered, blow-dried my hair, got dressed, straightened my hair, ate breakfast, brushed my teeth, checked facebook, flickr, blogger, etc. And lots more stuff. By the time I was finished, it was about time for church. So, I went to church. And Nathan said that people were coming over to his house, and he wanted to know if I wanted to come too. And so, talked to my parents, and they said it was fine. And then Lou made Nathan come and sit by me. And I kinda liked it. :P
Then, went to his house, and we just hung out. We ate pizza, I watched him play basketball, golf, and a bunch of other stuff. It was really nice out today. I liked it. Then we watched Master and Commander, and I almost fell asleep. hah.
ANNNDDD--yeah. It was awesome. Anything with him is a good time, really.
Came home, ate some chocolate cake, did my homework, took my picture. And now I'm here. It's a stellar day. :D
And I never get pictures with Nathan. darnit!
Ryan wrote a blog, and it really kinda made me think. I plan to call him tomorrow...and have a long serious talk about everything.........it's about time I do something....
I parked 3612 next to 3613 in Leeds this morning and as I got off I realised that it is becoming less and less likely that an oppurtunity to photograph two 36 Gemminis together in 36 livery style 2 would occur so I grabbed this shot. Only after taking it did I register I was next to consecutively numbered 3613. 3612 (YC53MXW) and 3613 (YJ06TLU) are seen in Leeds Bus Station
I took this shot Pier A in Hoboken during the blue hour. I had actually gone there to take some shots of Hoboken terminal in all its nighttime glory. From Pier-A you could see the terminal, the tower and the ferry terminal with Erie Lackawanna written on it. But to my disappointment the “C” and “K” of LACKAWANNA was not lit up.
With the terminal not in it full glory I decided to take a panorama of NYC skyline. Pier-A has a panoramic view of Manhattan from George Washington Bridge to Lower Manhattan.
This was the first pic I clicked to start with, and then the most amazing thing happened. I saw moon rising behind the skyline. It was Supermoon day today, it was bigger and brighter and awesomer. But I actually struggled to take a good photograph which included moon and midtown skyline and expose both of them properly. In excitement I messed up all the photographs and missed once in a lifetime opportunity to capture Supermoon with NYC skyline.
In a day of disappointments this was the only good shot I got

Brighton went on to win the series
Volleyball is one of those sports you don't really have to shoot the whole match to get highlights, so it gave me an oppurtunity to shoot some photos until i had to pick up the video camera

When Jim heard that Rocketeer Enterprises was hiring "Space Cowboys" to mine for the mineral Boryllian deap within Saturn's rings, he lept for the oppurtunity! Quickly promoted to the leader of a three man crew, Jim has fourteen missions under his belt, along with the title of the first person to rear end a spaceship while attempting to parallel park in space.

During a business trip this weekend to NYC i took this wonderful picture from a pier in downtown Brooklyn. The sky was just turning awesome after sunset and give me the oppurtunity to shoot some nice night shots of the Financial District. You can see a lot of details on this picture you can see the old harbour in the foreground and behind the big buildings how makes New York.
This car is amazing! I've been waiting so long to find one on the streets! This would be my second MkII GT3 RS, a month after I took this I found out the owner was selling it to Midwest Motors Inc (Where I'll be working soon :) and I had the oppurtunity to sit and rev it, along with a McLaren! Such an awesome experience! And I was going to say it was for sale but I just checked the website and apparently its been sold:

The alarm on my iPhone went off at 4AM, the sun was due to rise some time between 5 and 6 but we hadn't scouted the location as we arrived late last night and it was too dark to go and look for good vantage points. Our camera gear was packed and ready, so Scott and I jumped in the hire car and went in search of "Sunset Point". Yes, you read right, we went to look for photography oppurtunities at 4AM in the morning, at SUNSET point.
I think we were on the coast of Lake Erie, in this odd little carnival town, the name of which I'll try to recall later. Between the motel and the shore was a national park which we assumed was going to be a straight drive, however when we got to the front gates it was closed to visitors. We gave it about five minutes thought, weighing the pros and cons and how illegal it would be to trespass before deciding to mount the kerb and drive through the forest to get around the huge locked gate.
So we were on our way. The peninsula was about 5 miles in length and it wasn't long before we had reached the most Northerly beach. I took the 4x4 straight through the carpark and up on to the dunes rather than getting out like any sensible person would do. Scott suggested that we drop down a level and get closer to the shore. The sky was still dark and we were motoring along. About half a mile along the beach we decided to turn back and look in the other direction. I pulled to a stop and started to turn.
*whiiirrrrrr*
The car had stopped moving although my pedal was on the gas, we were wheel spinning in the sand. Keeping my calm, I got out and checked the front wheels which where a good foot lower than the back wheels. I got back in the try a little more power -You know the story from here on, it just gets worse and worse.
We were stuck, on a beach we didn't know, at five AM, after breaking into a national park, looking for a sunrise at sunset point. It may be funny now, but back then when it was happening we were panicking.
There was no way we were leaving our camera equipment in the car while went in search of help. I headed for the road with Scott, bags and tripods on our backs. In the distance I saw car headlights so sprinted towards them through this thick beach vegetation over several dunes. Out of breath and tumbling down the embankment to the road I just made it before the car passed. All of a sudden the full beams were flicked on and blue lights started flashing away, while I was stood in the middle of the road, panting like I'd just ran from something. Out of the car got a man with a gun on his belt, I was petrified and immediately confessed the whole story of what had happened and told him my friend was on the beach still. I expected Scott to appear, but nothing.
The man I stopped was a park ranger, obviously he would be the only person driving round a closed park at 5AM. Luckily for me took pity in our stupidity and decided to help. When Scott eventually appeared he seemed surprised to see me talking to the ranger rather than handcuffed with my face squashed on the bonnet. After a brief discussion over the phone with a few tow truck companies, the ranger decided to take us back to the base to meet the rest of his team, hopefully for some help.
As you can see from the pictures above and below, we did eventually get pulled from the sand and were able to go home, but empty handed as far as sunrise pictures are concerned.
A conversation Scott and I had over breakfast later on...
Sam: "It didn't have a sign that said no driving on the beach"
Scott: "My tripod doesn't have a sign that says don't eat it"
Sam: "Well it's not illegal to eat your tripod, just f*****g stupid"
Scott: "Exactly, Sam"
It's quite amazing how the tides either cover or expose certain areas of sandstone depending on the season and the flow direction. Go back to the same area again next week and it could be all change. It's a great oppurtunity to record rock formations not often seen, and highlights my theory that it is important to continually revisit the same areas, for only then do you notice change or recognise something new.
I shot quite a few frames of the Andaman Islands prior to landing. A sheet of clouds was inbetween my camera and the picturesque landscape. However, I grabbed every oppurtunity the clear weather provided me to capture a glimpse of this place from up above. It was worth every bit of it.

my little girl just turned 5 today. I cannot believe how fast time flies!. I already gave up hope of having a child, but God really do work in mysterious ways. She came into our lives unexpectedly. And I am very thankful and blessed because I was given the oppurtunity to be a mom. Happy Birthday to you my Kulit. Mommy and Daddy loves you so much
Testing Canon 100-400 mm IS lens; my first purchase for this year and I am quite happy with the results. I have heard a lot about the Softness of this lens, but my copy seems to be very sharp even wide open.
Though couldn't test the lens in different lighting conditions as today it was raining and on my way back got the oppurtunity to take some shots. It is heavy and bulky but of course less than my 400 mm 2.8 L IS.
Quite happy and am sure that in the coming days have a lot to shoot with this lens.

Itsukushima Shrine, Miyajima Island in the Hiroshima Prefecture of Japan.
The famous floating torii is one of Japan's most popular tourist attractions. The gate only appears to be floating at high tide; when the tide is low, the gate is surrounded by mud and can be accessed by foot from the island. It is common practice for visitors to place coins in the cracks of the legs of the gate and make a wish.
This photograph was taken on my very short visit to the island, and if i had gotten to make a wish, I would have wished to have the oppurtunity to visit again.

At night its possible to just walk along the streets and watch whats happening inside the stores. People don't easily see you in the dark outside. You can wait for the right moment and build your composition. This barber was a good oppurtunity.
I have waited a long time to get a photo of this bridge that I like. It is fact an underpass and it has so many photo oppurtunity when the light is good
Shot with Kat at the House of Nightmares Group shoot on 11/29/08. It was a blast doing this set in a dark, cold, and dirty basement. If anyone ever has the oppurtunity to work with Kat.... Do NOT pass up the oppurtunity!
Shot with a Nikon D300, 17 - 200 MM VR lens and a SB800 flash. I used 2 Britek 1500 watt strobes (1 behind an umbrella diffuser and the other as a main with umbrella) to balance out some light in this dark warehouse basement.
My last day in New York and my last photo taken...funny, as it turned out to be my favorite photo of my trip. As I left Harlem, it was a Sunday and I was blown away by seeing the streets painted beautifully with so many people proudly wearing thier "Sunday's best". Men in three peice suits, tuxedos & top hats, and woman in vibrant coloured dresses and decorative hats. Although I'm pretty shy about asking to take people's photos (I especially avoided taking photos of the public in Harlem...although there were so many wonderful photo oppurtunities & amazing subjects, I didn't want to risk offending someone.) I just had to take a photo of these three ladies. I approached them by telling them how beautiful they looked. The two older ladies in the front were quite reserved/cold at first, not understanding why I approached them. When I told them I wasn't from there and asked to take thier photo for a personal memory, they were quite apprehensive. But the younger woman (at the back), kindly explained to her mother (front left) and soon enough they were all smiles and chatting away. The woman at the back was from Florida but was visiting her mom in Harlem, where she was born and raised. The lady in black was very happy to tell me that she was in her 80's and that she has been bestfriends with the woman beside her & has been attending the same church, all her life.
When the sun finally showed its face, the whole place changed from all the colours of the rainbow to black & gold.
Being in the right place at the right time does have its advantages.
The trees in the foreground were just at the right height to take away the intense light from the sun, therefore creating the oppurtunity in capturing the perfect silhouette, not only of the trees but the sun itself..
