Twenty three people have today, 1st November 2011, been arrested following an investigation into the August disorder.
Operation Valant was launched by Greater Manchester Police to identify and arrest those involved in the widespread disorder across Manchester city centre and Salford on 9 August 2011.
Today, following a series of dawn raids across Salford, north and central Manchester and Bury, police have arrested 13 people wanted on suspicion of arson, violent disorder and looting. A further three people were arrested as part of the operation on suspicion of unconnected offences.
Officers have also recovered suspected stolen clothing and other items and uncovered a large cannabis farm.
In the near three months since the disorder, Greater Manchester Police has launched a huge operation to target suspected offenders, arresting more than 350 people and putting more than 200 of those before the courts.
Many of these have arrests have been carried out thanks to tremendous support from the public, who have come forward and put names to CCTV images the Force has published on its Flickr site and in the local and national media.
Assistant Chief Constable Ian Hopkins, who leads Operation Valant, said: "What today's action shows is that almost three months since the disorder, we are still relentlessly pursuing those suspected of being involved in the shameful actions we saw that day.
"We know from talking to our communities that what happened on 9 August continues to provoke feelings of anger and outrage. Many shopkeepers are rebuilding their livelihoods and people are still trying to come to terms with the violent and ugly scenes the police and the public were faced with.
"That is why Greater Manchester Police is continuing to arrest anyone suspected of being involved in the disorder. As today shows, whether it is a matter of days or months, we will be coming through the doors of anyone involved whether it is a looter, an arsonist, those who attacked police officers or even those who used social networking sites to stir up trouble.
"The support we have received from the public has been fantastic and their information has enabled us to make more than 350 arrests. We need that to continue. Greater Manchester Police will continue to put out images of suspects and I would urge people to call us if they recognise someone. As today has shown, with the public's help we will track these people down."

Operation Dragoon (initially Operation Anvil) was the code name for the landing operation of the Allied invasion of Provence (Southern France) on 15 August 1944. The operation was initially planned to be executed in conjunction with Operation Overlord, the Allied landing in Normandy, but the lack of available resources led to a cancellation of the second landing. By July 1944 the landing was reconsidered, as the clogged-up ports in Normandy did not have the capacity to adequately supply the Allied forces. Concurrently, the French High Command pushed for a revival of the operation that would include large numbers of French troops. As a result, the operation was finally approved in July to be executed in August.
The goal of the invasion was to secure the vital ports on the French Mediterranean coast and increase pressure on the German forces by opening another front. After some preliminary commando operations, the US VI Corps landed on the beaches of the Côte d'Azur under the shield of a large naval task force, followed by several divisions of the French Army B. They were opposed by the scattered forces of the German Army Group G, which had been weakened by the relocation of its divisions to other fronts and the replacement of its soldiers with third-rate Ostlegionen outfitted with obsolete equipment.

Today, Wednesday 2 October 2019, saw the conclusion of Operation Protector.
This is has been the policing operation for the Conservative Party Conference.
Chief Superintendent Wasim Chaudhry, Gold Commander in charge of policing during the Conservative Party Conference said:
“Over the past four days, Manchester has played host to the Conservative Party Conference, which saw just over 12,000 delegates visit our city.
“Policing this event presents a complex security and public order operation, requiring a high degree of multiagency partnership working and the highest levels of professionalism.
“As in previous years, there have been elements of protest throughout the conference period – notably on Sunday 29 September when around 13,000 people marched through the city.
“The vast majority of people attending protests did so peacefully and worked with us to ensure they could voice their opinions in a safe manner and with minimal disruption to others.
“On the occasions where individuals crossed the line we have taken positive action. It’s testament to our balanced policing approach that only four people have been arrested during the conference period.
“I want to thank those who live, work in or were visiting Manchester during the conference for their patience while our policing operation was in place.
“Throughout Operation Protector, officers have worked tirelessly to protect delegates, manage protests and keep our city safe.
“I am proud of all our officers and staff. They have performed their duties to the highest of standards and behaved in a professional and fair manner throughout.”

Greater Manchester Police Raids have taken place to reassure residents fed up of seeing a Salford park being used as a meeting place for drug deals.
Today, Tuesday 26 October 2010, warrants have been executed at eight addresses and six people have been arrested as part of a police operation to stamp down on the supply of class A drugs in Mandley Park, Salford.
The raids were carried out at addresses in Crumpsall, Higher Broughton and Kersal
Inspector Steve Bailey of the Salford East Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "Today's operation has been the result of months of work by officers acting on information given to them by local people.
"We want to thank members of the local community for taking a stand against the criminals.
"Days like today show residents that we do listen to their concerns and act on their information. It may take some time before we can take action because we need to carry out extensive inquiries and preparation first.
"We want people to feel as though they can take their children to Mandley Park without having to put up with drug deals taking place.
"Local Councillors and members of the community have been fully briefed this morning so that they understand exactly what has happened and why."
Cllr John Merry, Leader of Salford Council said: "This has been a good day for Salford generally, but particularly for Broughton residents and those who live around Mandley Park.
"We have for sometime been aware of activities taking place and we are delighted the police have taken such positive action. It is important for the community to work with the police in order to eradicate this problem from our midst."
Police officers and Police Community Support Officers are currently in those areas affected by this morning's raids in an attempt to reassure local people and to explain why so many police officers are in their community.
Anybody with any information about drug dealing in their area should contact GMP on 0161 872 5050 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

A new joint operation - called Operation Vortex - has gotten underway today (Wednesday 19 January 2022) in Oldham to crack down on vehicle crime and traffic offences in the district.
The Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit, along with officers from GMP's Safer Transport Team and officers across the Oldham District, worked along the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency at a static base in Chadderton, stopping a number of vehicles either committing traffic offences, or vehicle crime.
Two men arrested, one on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs, and one for driving while disqualified and remain in custody for questioning, ten vehicles have been seized for being driven with no insurance, and one stolen vehicle has been recovered.
In addition, officers also reported 35 traffic offences for a range of driving offences.
Chief Superintendent Mark Dexter from GMP's Specialist Operations said: "This will become a regular operation across Greater Manchester, where we will strive to make our communities and roads safer, tackling illegal vehicles which we know that are all too often used in crime and cause harm and misery on the roads.
"I hope this sends a strong message to anyone thinking of breaking the law on our roads, that we are watching, and we won't hesitate to take action to remove you and your vehicle from the road."

EOD teams from the U.S. Navy, Army, Air Force, and the Royal Air Force jointly trained at the Udairi Range in Kuwait. Because each service has its own requirements and mission types, joint training helps to expand different units' capabilities and familiarization with techniques.

PIC: Soliers from the Light Dragoons Battlegroup take a well earned rest in a compound during Operation Panchai Palang.
Phase three of Operation Panther’s claw was initiated today Friday 3rd July 2009 by the Light Dragoons Battlegroup. Known in Pashtu as Panchai Palang, it is hoped that the operation will clear and secure the Malgir and Babaji areas of insurgents in order to set the conditions for the forthcoming elections in August.
Over 700 British soldiers are involved in the Battlegroup operation, intimately supported by 300 personnel from the Afghan National Security Force. This is the main focus of Operation Herrick 10 and as such will be backed up by over 80 armoured vehicles, Close Air Support (in the form of fixed wing and attack helicopters), Artillery and the latest intelligence and surveillance assets.
The Battlegroup consists of soldiers predominately from The Light Dragoons and The 2nd Battalion Mercian Regiment, who have worked closely together previously on Operation Herrick 6 in 2007. The Battlegroup has already achieved success when they recently handed over the now thriving and prosperous Garmsir District to the American 2nd Battalion 8th Marine Regiment. This handover to the Americans has allowed the Battlegroup to focus its efforts on Panchai Palang as the Task Force’ main effort.
Commanding Officer of the Light Dragoons Battlegroup, Lieutenant Colonel Gus Fair DSO, said “We’ve enjoyed witnessing great progress in Garmsir District and now look forward to similar success in Malgir and Babaji”.
Although the next few weeks will be the most demanding and testing time for all involved on this tour to date, the intense preparation and planning that all the troops have endured, has ensured that everyone in the Battlegroup are fully focussed and ready for whatever lies ahead.
Scimitar Armoured vehicle commander, Sergeant Keith Bell, Light Dragoons said “Our vehicles and equipment are in great condition, and the boys have had time to recharge
