I composited another sky. Yesterday, when I took the photo, the sky was a clean but hazy blue. I replaced it with a cloudscape taken at the same place and time back in March. I also flipped the sky and layered it into the reflection at around 41% opacity.

Macro Mondays "Double Exposure"

Length of chili pepper: 5,5 cm / 2,16 inches; flame/candle: original size

I would have preferred to mask out the candle and only use the flame with the chili, because somehow I didn't think of taking the chili photo on a neutral surface / background, but felt that it would be cheating. The chili capture was taken in the kitchen (where else...), the pattern in the foreground (and some of the bokeh in the upper part, overlayed with the candle's wax) is from the kitchen worktop which is dark blueish-grey with a white marble-ish pattern. Actually the chili looks nice with that background, overlayed with the candle's wax (yellowish background), however, it's a little too busy, I think. As it was rather late, I decided to use the chili capture anyway, as I'd spent some time to get the flame kind of right (right size and position).

Both captures were developed in ON1 Photo RAW 2018. In

Photoshop I used "hard light" with 100 % opacity as a blending mode for the candle layer. The final processing touch was done in Analog Efex, where I added a square vignette.

I kind of got lost processing this one. It’s two wobbly shots of the Old Bodleian library in Oxford combined in post-processing with Difference blend mode…

Or at least, that’s where it started. Where it went after that is a bit of a mystery, but I know I ended up blending versions recursively with different modes at different opacities. Nik Color Efex was also partly to blame, adding a ghostly look (the Midnight and Bleach Bypass filters were in play, I remember… I think).

The two ICMs were with horizontal and vertical movements, respectively. There were some people there too, but they have been vapourised in the ionisation storm. Both images were one-stars, which is my lowest rating just above delete but I liked the way the lines of the architecture were emphasised by the movements. The central arched window (and the door underneath) caused some interesting interactions when the two images were combined. So here we have a suitable Sliders Sunday bit of garish, spooky unreality.

I had to do all sorts of things in Photoshop Elements to try to rescue this shot of cedar waxwings in a tree across the street, taken in fading light. First I adjusted the levels to bring out the color of the birds, which had appeared mostly in silhouette. Then I used the posterizing tool to enhance the details as much as I could. Then I added vstamey's grunge texture and adjusted opacity till I arrived at this image. It's certainly not an award winner, but I think it's interesting.

Week 4 in 52 Weeks for Dogs.

We had a small mount of sleety snow this morning but by the time I was ready for Tasku's photo shoot after I had walked the dogs it had stopped and was already melting. So it was time for a little fakery in PS elements and processing in DDG. I used the version done in DDG as a texture and used it in two different layers, blend modes and opacities. Then a snow overlay in screen blend mode, adding a mask and doing a little brushing here and there to take the snow off her eyes and soften the effect in other areas.

This is in the Mt Lofty Botanic Gardens in South Australia.

The colours there at the moment are stunning.....

..... but this is a FANTASY REPRESENTATION of autumn there.

For something different I used 3 filters in color Efex 4 to give it an Orton like effect.

Firstly it is shot towards the sun. The sun is right behind the foreground tree trunk.

Then in Nik Collection Color Efex 4 I applied a Skylight filter at 50% opacity

Then I applied the Indian Summer filter at the same strength.

The 3rd filter was the Glamor Glow filter which gave it the glow and intensified all the orange and yellows in the original shot.

I paid for this Nik Collection software many years ago before it was given away for free on Google.

Then DXO got hold of it and then my original software would not work so I had to pay for it again.

For this moment in time the world is at peace. Nothing else exist except for the beauty of nature that stands before me. For those few minutes before the sun rises above the mountains the world is perfect.

A lovely rustic hut we discovered on one of our hikes this autum in South Tyrol, Italy ... I can imagine sitting there, enjoying the evening sun on the bench with a good book and maybe a glas of fine wine ... and perhaps some fairies or elves would join me, too ;))
