Explored once again!!
8 exposures digital blending. Soft light and lighten are used for the sky. During the process, the jetty and boat was too dark. So i decided to try out my 1st masking skill. Not bad i guess. The boat is at single exposure, the lightest at (+3) and lighten blend mode with opacity at 50%.
DRI. This time no HDR or Curves adjustments. Just blending mode and masking tools. It took me 30 minutes to get the color that i want.

I wanted to be on the beach before the sun came up. Our camper was in the closest site to the boardwalk and all I had to do was wake up before sunrise, grab my stuff, and head to the beach. When I saw the sun was already above the horizon I quickly decided to make the boardwalk part of the shot.
With my camera on a tripod, I had it set to shoot three exposures bracketed two stops. I used my camera's 2-Second Timer to a avoid camera movement between exposures. Back at home I processed these in Photomatix Pro using tone mapping. The Photomatix preset I used was Natural. Next, I opened it in Lightroom 4 and I used the sliders to open up the shadows, turn down the highlights, and increase the white. I also added a little bit of vibrance and straightened the horizon. For sharpening I used the Sharpen Scenic preset and then added a bit of Post Crop Vignetting.
I opened it next in Photoshop CS6 because I wanted to apply the Orton Effect. To apply the Orton Effect, I duplicated the background layer and with this background copy as the active layer, I clicked on the Image menu and chose Apply Image and changed the blend mode to Screen. Next I duplicated that layer, went to the Filter menu and chose Blur, Gaussian Blur at a level around 27. Next, I changed the blend mode of this third layer to multiply and then turned down the opacity just a little. I merged the three layers into one and I was finished.

This is a remake of an earlier scan.
I made a BW "negative" in photoshop, turned it into an overlay, and then reduced the opacity 20% or so, also playing with its contrast and brightness. Essentially, the digital version of contrast masking....

I placed the ten pence coin with a tiny bottle from my craft stash (measuring 15mm high x 4mm wide) filled with gypsophila, on some white muslin to add a bit of texture. I usually take the opacity of the texture down a lot further but felt this needed a bit more. HMM

During processing in Topaz Studio 2, a strange thing happened. When applying an opacity change, the program added a second sheep to the image (the one closest). The rest of the image remained untouched.
I have previously had double-exposure like changes but they were always of the whole image and more ghost-like.

[This image was created from a series of eight slightly rotated shots of a single bloom (a potted camellia, so i could rotate it easily), with each layer blended using different modes and opacities. It was inspired by an image of a tree the lovely Peter Whitfield posted some time ago, using a technique named for the artist, Pep Ventosa, who first used it. For Peter's shot, he circled his subject through 360 degrees. For mine, I limited myself to rotating through 180 degrees from left to right (mainly because parts of the garden wouldn't look great as background). When I saw Peter's shot, I started thinking about whether it would translate to a smaller subject. As Peter said in his original posting, the technique itself is relatively easy to understand but what i'd been finding daunting was the prospect of deciding on the blend modes and opacities for each layer when the possibilities are endless... ]

I used a light overlay texture (soft light blend) at much reduced opacity, added a mask and brushed off most of the texture from the flower.

My goal on this image was to try to emulate the look of a faded color photo that may have originally been taken in the mid 1950's. Did I accomplish it...maybe, I'm not sure?
The process:
-Convert the original image to a b/w in a layer
-Add a sepia like tone to the image
-Back off the opacity in the layer to about 85% which brought back some of the original colors in the image
The car, a very nice 1935 Ford coupe, and illegally parked.

Twelve hues separated by 30° on the colour circle, each at brightnesses 125, 135 and 145, the 125 and 145 brightness blocks at 60 per cent opacity.
Although in each of the three blocks the twelve hues are all at the same brightness, they don’t necessarily look it.

It's monochromed and toned so not the true colours. Think Orange and Cyan... and you will be suitably misled.

Just a techo note. In our endless hunt for methods of making Sl pics pop, we tried the following...
Two versions of the pic. The second has HDR applied to it, preset surrealistic, copied onto the first pic as a second layer. Blending mode soft light, Opacity reduced to 70%. NB you must apply the HDR before copying and pasting. Attempting t create the second layer and then apply HDR will mean that the picture will automatically flatten itself.
To me this adds the depth which is usually absent from SL pics. What do you think?
