Fall is here, and with it, the annual exchange. This is far, far better than the fall/wint exchange. There is summer's warmth, for autumn's cool; summer's coloured flowers for fall's coloured leaves, and shorts and t-shirts for pants, and sweaters. But, always, always, lurks the threat of wint, whose cold, vicious grip is both heartless, and unrelenting. Wint will separate your soul from your heart, crumple them like so much detritus by the side of the road, and discard them in the dungheap of life. Perhaps I am being a titch overly dramatic... NAH!!! It really is THAT bad. lol

My grandfather was a complex man, who revealed very little of himself to me, till it was almost too late. Sometimes big hearted, sometimes grasping, and self-serving, but, then, I guess we can all be like that sometimes. These clubs are my grandfather's. They date from some time before WWII, when he and my Gram, and my dad, lived in Milwaukee, where they had moved for work. I have a newspaper clipping from the time, mentioning a tournament he played in. He was not a professional, by any means. lol I never saw him play. Life caught up to him, in the form of being one of 9 siblings orphaned in 1932. The youngest was a baby, the oldest, married, as was my grandfather. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1943, though because of his age, and family situation, he could have avoided service. While serving on board a ship in Australia, he was crushed (to death, they thought at the time), and had his heart moved over to the right side of his chest. Anyhow, a few years after he passed away, my Gram gave me a lot of his stuff, as I was the only grandson. I've kept these clubs since. They are actually in playable shape. In fact, I played the best round of my life using them. lolA funky coincidence, I'm sure. The grips are a beautiful leather, and the leather bag is a thing of beauty. More to come.

Be careful not to lose it. :-)

The 12 Days of Christmas: The story behind the holiday’s most famous carol.

The picture speaks for itself. lol It's actually a Christmas ornament, living a double life. I don't believe in one holiday props. lol Plus, it saves money. Don't ask me how I got it to stand up here, but, it involves stick tac, a Jenga block, and nerves of steel. 30+ years as a teacher hasn't been a complete waste. Ok, no, didn't need the nerves of steel-good thing.

We tend to celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied ad multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.

We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.

“A concise poem about our work as stated elow

A place without being

a thought without thinking

creatively, two dimensions

suspended animation

possibly a perfect imitation

of what was then to see.

A frozen memory in synthetic colour

or black and white instead,

fantasy dreams in magazines

become imbedded inside my head.

Artistic views

surrealistic hues,

a photographer’s instinctive eye:

for he does as he pleases

up to that point he releases,

then develops a visual high.

“Once I spoke the language of the flowers,

Once I understood each word the caterpillar said,

Once I smiled in secret at the gossip of the starlings,

And shared a conversation with the housefly

in my bed.

Once I heard and answered all the questions

of the crickets,

And joined the crying of each falling dying

flake of snow,

Once I spoke the language of the flowers. . . .

How did it go?

How did it go?”

― Shel Silverstein

We don't presently have any sn@# (I'm not complaining) but, it will come. This was quite the setup, including studio lights, Christmas lights, ornaments, etc. Obtaining these trees required an Herculean effort on their own. lol The reindeer were a bonus.

My grandson Jos, (Joseph) helped me find acorns recently when the two of us went to Springwater Conservation Area. I had a plan for some shots that has finally come to fruition. But, one of my Flickr contacts always beats me to the punch. lol I guess the early bird gets the photo, eh, Beth? lol Well, in my defence, I was voted President of the Procrastinators of Canada, after all. Ok, not quite true, we keep putting that vote off till the next meeting, but, if we ever do vote, I'm sure I'll be the President.

Anyhow, I thought it would be "cute" to picture a bunch of acorns aspiring to grow up, not to be "Mighty Oaks", but, really big acorns.

Amidst, company, family, my son's family trying to buy their first house, yada, yada, yada, I took some more back yard photos today. After shooting a whole buncha black eyed Susans, I decided to throw this cone flower in the middle of the mix. I put the vase on an old, weathered bistro table, that has been on our front porch, back porch, picanics, and the new deck. Now, the table is in the back yard, off the deck. I stood on the steps of our new deck, and shot straight down on this bicolour buffet.I think the echinacea flower should have been a bit smaller. lol It's like the elephant in the floral room.
