>>Explored ^_^ 2 January 2009<<

When I went up to have an interview in the ABC Newsroom here in Austin, a gentleman there named Ed Sparks was nice enough to take me back to the inner sanctum. Ed is a frequent here in the community (hi Ed!) and quite the camera enthusiast. Before and after my live appearance (from a few weeks ago), he took me back into this control room so I could set up for a shot. As usual, I've uploaded the full-res version so you can see all the little details in the room. To see the full-res version, just click on the photo to go to the Flickr site. Click on "All Sizes" at the top of the photo. Last, click on "Original".

They explained to me how the room worked and how everything was customizable. The crew can pull in whatever feeds they need and position them on the screen accordingly. They even can save templates, since each producer that comes in and out during the day can have their own setup. It was quite fascinating to watch these guys operate in precision... I had to catch myself and remember to take photos, since I would sorta stare at the screens at get mesmerized for a bit!

It is a "Bombylius major". Many thanks to Laura from www.bumblebee.org that always helps me with her experience!

These insects are very fast but they often stay in suspended flight for a couple of seconds before they pose to a flower. In one of these moments I took the photo.

Questi insetti si muovono molto velocemente ma spesso rimangono in volo sospeso per un paio di secondi prima di posarsi su un fiore. Ho scattato la fotografia in uno di questi attimi.

WSM is a 50,000-watt AM radio station located in Nashville, Tennessee. It broadcasts a full-time country music format at 650 kHz and is known as the home of The Grand Ole Opry, the world's longest running radio program. The station's clear channel signal can reach much of North America and nearby countries, especially late at night and has been doing so since October 5, 1925. Families used to gather around radios when the signal came in strong to listen to the familiar sound of the Grand Old Opry. Now, the tourists come to stay at Opryland and often do not look up from their cell phones long enough to see the country music stars right there in the studios; on-air live.

"Carbon emissions fill the air, particulate matter floats inside our lungs while electromagnetic radiation envelops the earth. Yet, a different epoch is possible, an Aerocene epoch – one of interplanetary sensitivity through a new ecology of practice. Ecosystems have to be thought of as webs of interactions, within which each living being’s ecology co-evolves. By focusing less on individuals and more on reciprocal relationships, we might think beyond what means are necessary to control our environments and more on the shared formation of our quotidian. Let the spiderweb guide here."

This sign rather caught my eye perched on a narrowboat on Little Venice in London.

It is of course a sign you'd see in a TV or radio studio, but this narrowboat does actually broadcast sound, as well as undertaking related activities. It's called the BoAt Pod. www.theboatpod.com/

An invitation to dreaming in Venice. The picture is taken from the island of Giudecca. During the golden age of the Republic, the splendid palaces and parks were places of relaxation for rich aristocrats. The island is also known for the Church of the Redentore where the Doge used to go once a year by crossing the canal on a bridge made of boats. This celebration still occurs every year in July. When it is more calm, the place offers a splendid walk with a delicious view on Venice.
