Looking Close... on Friday: Tip
On tonight's episode of "Cats Are Perfect": the ear! This delicate, soft little ear possesses 32 muscles (we poor humans only have 6) and allows cats to keep their balance, move their ears 180°, and of course hear 5 times better than us. It never ceases to amaze me how these little killing machines with superfeline powers can be so graceful, elegant, beautiful... and so, so cute! (Incidentally, the cuteness is... not incidental. They share baby-like features with lots of baby animals, which makes us subconsciously attracted to them. But these devious little monsters have also managed to tune their purring to a human baby's cries, triggering our instinct to protect, help... and smooch. We are being totally manipulated. And we love that.)

On the water, where the ocean meets the shore. A foggy summer morning, about to be consumed by the sun. The horizon is invisible, obscured by a dazzling combination of sun and marine layer. A waitress goes about readying her restaurant for the lunch crowd. At first I wonder if she is desensitized to this scene, because of her daily exposure to it. And then it hits me. No, she is part of it.

Taken on warmer days. I ventured on an aborted walk today. The temperature was -21 C, and the wind slapped my cheeks with frozen drizzles forcing a U-turn to the comfort of my study. The camera nearly got glued/welded to my palm. Keep warm, my friends.😉
Sometimes one gets lucky - this Scarlet Tanager (M) landed on the branch with lighting hitting and a natural dark background. Not much to do on this photo - let nature speak for itself!

Shine on Angel Happy Caturday one of Angel cats last few photographs in the early evening sunset on the back deck, one of his favorite places, shot in North Carolina.
This gorgeous little fellow was certainly very alert and keeping an eye on me while I was trying to move slowly in trying to capture that stance. Brave little fellow!
