Very late last night the government informed the country that those over 65 (or with chronic illnesses) are now confined to their homes. We expected this to happen, but thought there would more than a 2-hour, middle-of-the-night notice. We had planned to make one last supply run this morning and finally decided to be brave and make an illegal exit from our home. Glad to say we were successful and now feel a little more secure in what we have on hand. We oldsters are staying home, but, unfortunately, the youngsters are out and about, gathering together as though it's a holiday. Leyla (the dog) is not happy about missing her morning and evening walks, but at least she has the garden in which to roam and take care of business.

Big excitement this afternoon as our neighbor across the road sprayed his olive trees. There will be plenty of time to snap the things inside our own perimeter.

a dark sunrise- the olive branches made a neatlooking frame. The view from my bench!

Last weekend I went for a walk and found an extremely rare thing - a dead olive tree. It is very hard to kill a mature olive tree - although babies in their forst two or three years are somewhat simpler. Cutting it down usually results in sprouts from the stumps and the only reliable ways seem to be a few weeks of frost or an attempt at moving it which cuts up too many roots (and given the huge numbers of large olive trees in small post around the place this is not a simple or reliable method). It is possible that something will sprout up from the roots but the fact that all the branches on all the trunks seem equally dead makes me think that this one is now an ex-olive tree that won't be revived by the application of quantities of water and fertilizer.

Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and is its largest city in both population and area. Located in the Judean Mountains, between the Mediterranean Sea and the northern tip of the Dead Sea, modern Jerusalem has grown up outside the Old City.

The city has a history that goes back to the 4th millennium, making it as one of the oldest cities in the world. It has been the holiest city in Judaism and the spiritual center of the Jewish people since the 10th century. The city contains a number of significant ancient Christian sites, and is considered the third-holiest city in Islam. Despite having an area of only 0.9 square kilometer (0.35 square mile), the Old City is home to sites of key religious importance, among them the Temple Mount, the Western Wall, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Dome of the Rock and the al-Aqsa Mosque. The old walled city, a World Heritage site, has been traditionally divided into four quarters, although the names used today — the Armenian, Christian, Jewish, and Muslim Quarters — were introduced in the early 19th century.

Moving images taken from the train on the way to Sevilla.

And just as quickly, the rain cleared to sunlight. I still have idea how anyone picks olives off trees that are planted damn near vertically on these hills.

I've been getting up early to work in the cool of the day and its well worth it!.

I think these are olive trees... fields and fields of them in Spain

The waters of the Manzanares River flow once again as a result of the ambitious plan to move the old M-30 motorway underground, creating over ten kilometres of pedestrian and cycling routes. These connect important land marks of the city alonf 7 km of the river such as Puente de Segovia and Puente de Toledo bridges, the Virgen del Puerto Chapel and new urban landmarks, like the Puente Monumental bridge in Arganzuela Park and the city beach. Madrid Río has opened up new spaces and incorporated existing areas into a project tackling three aspects of city life: the environment, leisure and sport. Its most outstanding achievement, however, is doing away with the barrier hindering communication between the two river banks, which separated one side of the city from the other. At the time these contraversial works between 2006 and 2011 were scoffed at for their pharaonic aspects. But the fransfoemation of the zone is now recognised as a truly positive move. The Madrid Rio Park has been awarded The Veronica Rudge Green Prize in Urban Design from Harvard University.

Not sure we need a fir tree now; a few lights on the young olive tree has a certain attraction of its own.

We enjoyed a day hike in the mountains behind Tortosa. It was a warm spring day. Thousands of olive trees on steep slopes.
