Celtis australis.
On our way back from the clinic to meet Chris & I's first niece ever ! :) Had a latte under this old tree, waiting for the right time to go grab the boys at school.
It's getting chillier over here, brr. But I'm HAPPY ! I wore a turtle neck for the first time this season ... long after many months.

It is nice to see that they have found ways to use old trees.
The park was forced to close for two weeks in February 2014 after Storm Darwin caused 19 trees to fall and work was needed to repair damaged pavements, railings and unblock pathways. But there was some good news … Ssome of the oldest and rarest trees knocked in Limerick’s People’s Park by Storm Darwin are being given a new lease of life by being transformed into works of art.

Sadly one of the rarest trees in the park, an ornamental tree called a ‘Tetradium Danielli” which was about 80 or 90 years old was destroyed in the storm. The tree in question is commonly called a ‘Bee Bee’ tree as it is covered in late July and August with masses of small white flowers which attracts large numbers of bees as a source of late summer honey. Prk management had a chat with Zambian woodcarver Paradazi Havatyitye and as a result he carved three beautiful bees in the remaining stump.

It was later cleaned up and, if you didn't know about the old tree, and walked by for the first time you might not even notice that there had been something there. (Image to follow)
Found a tree that's good for sunsets :)
The Tharwa Bridge is open again, as is the road leading out to it. Couldn't resist going for a drive to 'find the sunset' (as it's called in our house).
Unfortunately the bridge is much less picturesque now, and much more functional :(

This turned out nice with the early evening sun that I just had to put it up. A perfect time of day to take pictures.

By virtue of its age and location, the Lone Cypress Tree (also known as the Sentinel Cypress), qualifies as a piece of history—it served as a navigational marker for sailors on the Lake Okeechobee for more than a century, as they used it to find the entrance to the newly-dug Caloosahatchee Canal. Years later, the construction of a lock made the tree less useful for navigation, but it’s a beautiful landmark around which the The town of Moore Haven grew. Moore Haven is the government seat of Glades County. It is located on the banks of the Caloosahatchee River, where it was founded in 1915. It was a thriving community until the deadly "Miami Hurricane" of 1926 killed 150-200 town residents and destroyed most of the downtown buildings. Once again tragedy struck during 1928 when the entire Okeechobee region was flooded by another hurricane killing an estimated 2500. Along with structural damage to towns and agricultural land, the hurricane was very devastating to the residents' morale. Because of the aftermath of the 1928 "Okeechobee Hurricane", the Florida State Legislature and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began planning a massive flood control system to prevent Lake Okeechobee from ever spilling its banks again. The outcome was the Herbert Hoover Dike which encircles the lake. Under the leadership of Mayor, Marian Horwitz O'Brien (one of the first female mayor's in the country), the town of Moore Haven was rebuilt. Today Moore Haven is situated within a region of vast cattle prairies and sugar cane fields that help to serve as a reminder of Florida's agricultural past and a history of the pioneer times of south Florida.
I saw this old tree next to a swamp and thought the light was just right, the details came out very nice.

There were many old willows in a small county park on Otisco Lake with trunks like this. I'd be afraid to come here after dark!
