I am never happy about trees being cut down but in this instance I do not know the full story and may never do so.
Having read the news about the petition I decided to visit Fairview to see what the fuss was about and also it was a good excuse to visit the area.
According to one local that I spoke to the City Council is planning to remove about fifty trees in order to make way for a new cycle path but a second lady explained that as the trees will be replaced by the Corpo [Dublin City Council] she was not interested in the petition.
As the planting began in 1906 some of the trees are over a hundred years old and according to the City Council officials some of the older trees are distressed because of restricted growing space and need to be felled regardless of their plans for a cycleway.
On the main Fairview road there is a large number of trees marked with yellow bands and I assume that these are the trees destined for the chop. However, according to some online accounts it is the trees along the park’s main footpath that are under threat. I think that some reports have used stock photographs of random trees in the park.

Dorf-, Rats-, Berichts- und Tanzlinde bis 1950. Eine der schönsten Linden Deutschlands. Natürlich hätte ich gern den Vergleich zum grünen Zustand mal gesehen. War von euch schon mal jemand dort?

My grandson is a big boy for his 'size' and gives a perspective on the size of the old lonely Sycamore Tree.
This is the Boogie Man. He lives along our riverbank. My children are afraid of him. They do not go any further up river in the evening without telling someone or else The Boogie Man will get them.

I did not do justice to this tree. And, the deficiency was all mine, for lack of having the skills, at the time to know how to take good photos.
It was not particularly tall, but you can see its age from the way it stood and the patterns of the large branches. The bark was almost "black" but not really because it was speckled with yellows and other shades -- characteristic of old trees.
But, what was most remarkable about this tree was how it was literally "split" at the middle, but not quite. The shortness of the main trunk before its two major branches were formed suggests that at an early life, it was prunned or perhaps struck by lightning, or something else. And, yet through it all, it survived.
Centuries before, the area must have been a forest, but it stood alone survived, based from the absence of old growth near it. There too was an earlier generation of mankind, and those thereafter who saw the beauty and nobility of this tree, in spite of its seemingly grotesque appearance.
It was an old tree found near the public park (perhaps the playground of the Hapsburg royal families whose palace Inow a museum) in the middle of the "Tirol country" was just a stone throw away from the park.
This "Old Tree" is a testament therefore of the resilience of Nature -- to withstand and endure -- when met with the ravages of natural or man-made catastrophes.

The Bahia Honda Rail Bridge is an old railroad bridge in the lower Florida Keys connecting Bahia Honda Key with Spanish Harbor Key. It was originally part of the Overseas Railway,
Image taken just outside of the city of Cork, in Ireland. I was driving from Kerry towards Cork and saw this lonely tree emerging from the lifting fog. As the sun started to illuminate the scene I parked, grabbed my gear and went for a couple of shots. I couldn't let the moment go by without having taken some pictures of this. Regards, Tjerk
