The scent of earth,
The heaviness of the air,
The warmth of the sun,
The only thing missing is....
Nasi Lemak.
This Gorgeous wisened tree extends its natural reach by casting the most beautiful shadows on the the grassy slopes. I am high on the plains above Taddington Dale about to look over Monsal Dale and the path in the background will take me there. Goodbye olde tree may that we meet again some sunny day.
One person’s garbage is another person’s treasure. The Keys are littered with abandoned boats. I came upon this one near our home. The Coast Guard refers to these as “derelict” or “abandoned” vessels. The government’s website has a definition for the two: ‘“Derelict” frequently refers to vessels that are dilapidated with an identifiable owner, while “abandoned” vessels are those where the owner is unknown or has surrendered rights of ownership. Vessels become abandoned and derelict for many reasons.’
I’m not sure why they stay sitting as an attractive nuisance without being removed by the authorities but it gives me another photo backdrop. I need to get back out here on a starry night. Until then Tracey is my Siren.
Project 365 #48 02-17-2007 (Cherokee Park, Louisville, Kentucky)
On warm-weather evenings, the field behind this tree is always full of people. There is usually a game going on--soccer, rugby, or football, depending on the season. When there's no game, people congregate with their dogs and their Frisbees. There is often a guitar player or two on the edge of the field, and there's even a trumpet player who frequently practices in that back corner near the woods. The field is usually brimming with life, and this enormous tree is the great protector--the provider of shade.
But on this night, the field was empty, cold, and desolate. I imagined the tree to be lonely, mourning, awaiting the return of life.

Images and music often go together in my mind. This photograph calls for music that is dark and contemplative. In December, my friends, Sidney King and Chris Powell, created a piece to open a concert with the theme of moving from darkness to light. I'll post a fragment of it below. I think it fits the mood of this image.
(Live recording with lots of audience hacking and wheezing!)

Chris Powell, Cello
Daniel Light, Piano
15 years ago, this ancient Sugar Maple was a joy to behold - especially in the fall.
It just was too old and too many crashes on the roof :(
The boys were very skilled - we left a tall stem/stump for habitat. The GoPro battery died before it was all done - it took less than 4 hours.
Zamalek (also known as the Gezira Island) is one of Cairo’s well known Islands for it’s greenery and beautiful trees. The residential island has some very beautiful streets, old buildings, and villas making the Island one of Cairo’s favorite locations for expatriates.
This shoot was taken on a quiet street near the famous Cairo Tower which is one of Africa’s tallest structures and a must visit for tourists in Cairo as you can see a beautiful view of the entire city. Some of the very old beautiful trees of Zamalek can be seen in the pictures.
My third outfit collaboration with Vichi (Egypt’s finest streetstyle blog) and Cairo’s famous Sixtynine (A store who has a branch also in Zamalek with some great stuff) shot by my favorite fashion photographer Abu Samra.
I was wearing this gorgeous silver top that feels like a sweater from the inside (jersey material kind of). Since it’s a bit long I styled it with this black skirt toning the whole silver mood a bit down since it’s a day time outfit I didn’t want it to be too flashy.

Central Park in Davis California is a childhood memory lane for me, lined with Plane Trees, Black Walnuts, California Redwoods, and many more old heritage trees.
The tour guide told us this was the oldest tree on Thomas Jefferson's property.

Canon 20D converted to infrared. Blur filter added in photoshop with a little dodging on the trunk to bring it out a bit.
This neighbor turned his large and old tree into the veins of a heart, used red lights to light the under the tree to show it's beautiful width and veins, and played the audio of a heart beating. It was beautiful. My Neighborhood has become famous! Halloween in University Heights, San DIego, California, 2014
Used a grad .3 Lee filter

Hey girl! Sorry it's taken me a bit to get back to you but things have been a bit muddled around here. I've received news that one of my little sisters wants to come stay with me instead of the grandparents. Which means that the other two are surely going to follow soon. I need the older girls to come back to help with the tiny girls though.
OMG!! What awesome news!! You are moving in together??? I'm really happy for you and you'll have to let me know how that works out! I'm sorry to hear that his dad has to leave for more training though especially during the holiday season. *laughs* Naturally things never happen on schedule! I'm sure you two will make it through this change seamlessly. I'm almost a tiny bit jealous of the two of you. ;)
Hahaha! Guys are so funny! I'm not surprised that you forgot about his gift but I'm glad he like it. What guy wouldn't?
Thanks and I'm sorry Logan couldn't make it for Thanksgiving. I ended up ordering Chinese take out which was yummy but strange. I'm hoping for a nicer Christmas dinner.
Yes, I'm definitely getting him something. Not sure what yet but I'm thinking an iPhone so he can stay in touch with me! A bit selfserving, I know! But he said that he should be home in the next week or by early next week!
LOL! I'm always willing to brainstorm about shopping! Or share any links that I have. Do you have any ideas what to get for him yet? There is always guy cave stuff...tvs, electronics, games.
Write back when you can!
Hugs,
October
They're small, but these gnarled bur oaks may actually be quite old. Lee Frelich, forest ecologist with the University of Minnesota Department of Forest Resources, estimates the ages of the bur oaks at about 150 yrs. (See comments)
Our last challenge in the winter 2022 hiking challenge. It's great to be outdoors normally, Between the pandemic and war and other unpleasantness these hikes have been a necessity to unwind and remind myself that the word us bigger than all the humans on it.
Although lately I feel we are at a very dangerous place that I haven't thought about since the 1980s when it seemed pretty certain we were going to end in a nuclear Armageddon. Friends and I would talk about what it'd be like and we all decided it was better to be vaporized instantly. And here we are again, except whereas the Russians.... I always held in my heart,,,loved their children too, I am not so sure about Adolph Hitler II...I mean Putin. A cowardly aggrieved man with a little cock who is desperate to show he isn't such a pussy, and might lead us to nuclear war.
These forays into what remains of nature are reaffirming in that there is more important things in the world than us. Using my body and working to go up and down hills and feel the cold is what it is all about. I am also dealing with a sick parent and these challenges...which are certainly not like climbing Mt Everest of crossing the arctic on foot, but make me appreciate what my body can do and how much we waste away at the hands of convenience. A colleague of mine complained about having to go up and down the stairs at work and I reminded him that someone in a wheel chair might find it a blessing to be able to tire themselves going up and down the stairs. I'm as guilty as the next person of this but I try to be as conscious of the gifts I have. My dad has advanced dementia, a particularly cruel form of dementia called progressive aphasia. He is robbed of his abiltities to speak and express as well as loss of memory and autonomy. I know he would love to be able to hake even a little way and stretch his body and feel and appreciate the landscape.

its neat to walk through a cemetery and come across family names that are part of the area's history.
This is the other side of the tree in the previous post...with the same treatment...producing a different creation...I had so much fun with this, I can't wait to show you what came out of the top of the tree!
With love
Nat :)
Ross Rapid Symmetrical lens 9x7 size f 9. Ross started making the Rapid Symmetrical from c1874 in a good range of sizes. Taken at f 17 (No.4 stop), at this aperture edge fall-off is still considerable.
