Looking through some old photos I came across these shots of old trees in the woods close to our house. They were taken in 2006 with my old Fuji camera.

thanks to D.s help we got some delicious cherries down from the old tree - exquisite! Next year we have to think of how to get to them better; there is so much left we could not reach, what a pitty...
Taken in Doughton Park in Sparta, NC on 6/28/12
We came into Doughton Park a different way this time, and it not only made for a shorter hike to our preferred spot but we also passed this fabulous tree. I think we'll be using this entrance from now on. :)

The cemetery, established in 1874, is terraced into the hillside on the north end of what remains of Gardiner, Oregon, on Old Highway 101. Most of the headstones are quite old and some are struggling with the elements and the passage of time. These gravestones belong, for the most part, to the early pioneers of the area. Steep cement paths lead visitors to the graves of founding citizens and their descendants, children who never made it to adulthood due to the rigors of pioneer life, and others can be found there. Enchanting old tree standing amongst the headstones.

This poor tree had lost it's bark, but I thought it looked pretty neat like that. Not sure what kind of tree it is... it was on the Trail of the Cedars, which features Cedars of course but several other kinds of trees as well.

This picture just makes me giggle. My dad found this tree outside a cemetary where many of my ancestors are buried. Turns out the tree is the oldest in the entire county, at a spry 365 years old. He won an award from Mich State Univ for finding it. You can see how big it is compared to the size of my dad (orange shirt), grandpa (purple shirt), and my husband (hiding behind the tree). Dad just had to climb it... Gotta love it!
This is the stoutest tree in the world whose trunk girth is even larger than the biggest sequoia. It is found in the Santa Maria del Tule, Oaxaca state, Mexico. Around there are several monumental tree of the same species but this is the largest one. Unfortunately the pictures came off pretty ugly. I was sick and not in the right mood.

You have to admit that roll film can do it.
This is one of the largest trees in the woods and is near the foundation, meaning this was once somebody's yard. Some 48 years ago, there was a tree house in this tree. You can see one fragment left of it, still nailed in.
