My Flickr friend Jake took me to the location of this old oak tree in a field at Hunston, Chichester, West Sussex.

The tree was damaged many years ago by lightning but is still standing and makes a wonderful silhouette against the last of the sunset.

SOOC. See! We do get some color change here in Florida.

Norway's second largest tree (diameter), approx 1000 years old oak.

I woke up at about 1:00 and looked outside. Seeing the Milky Way I decided to take my mope to the darkest photo spot on the island. About 30 minutes into taking photos a border patrol agent pulled up with his lights on and asked for an ID. I told him I lived about a mile away and he would have to follow me to my house to get an ID. He ran my plates and then asked to see my photos. When I showed him the photos he said that he had never noticed the Milky Way before until I pointed it out to him. I asked him if I was breaking any laws or ordinances and he said that I wasn't. I personally think he drives back in that spot to sleep at night and he just wanted to hassle me enough that I would call it a night. Unfortunately, the moped didn't start and I had to walk it about a mile home. The officer never left that spot. I am confident that he sleeps in his car there.

“If these olive trees could talk, they’d have a lot to say”

The local millennium olive tree groves in north eastern Spain are home to some very old trees, some over 2,000 years old, dating all the way back to Roman times.

This region of Spain has the greatest concentrations of millennium trees in the world, with over 4,000 of these behemoths in this area.

The disappearance of the olive trees is a loss for the people of Spain. As with heritage buildings, these organic remnants of past civilizations are a connection to the past and are irreplaceable.

On the UC Berkeley campus. I love this spot. The group in the distance are my morning walking buddies. HTmT!

Little Owl / athene noctua. Lincolnshire. 24/06/16.

This is a female Little Owl with a very colourful prey item in her beak to feed her chicks with.

It is a Small Elephant Hawk-moth!

She really excels in her parental duties in my opinion. Not only does she supply varied and nutritional food for them, but 'pretty food' too. Now that's what I call a 'Super Mom'.

BEST VIEWED LARGE.

The image was made during a photography session of almost three hours. It is the first time I have ever done flash photography too!

Initially I was helped out by Tom Robinson, who set up the light and flash-lights. After Tom left I settled quietly in the hide, clutching the remote-control flash trigger.

Just me, the LO family and a few glimpses of a Barn Owl for good measure.

Most definitely one of the best british wildlife encounters I have had. The three hours seemed to pass in a heartbeat, although thinking about it, they would wouldn't they - after all, my heart was beating very fast :-)

An old tree at the Singapore Botanical Garden

Szrenica (1362 m a.s.l. Reifträger). The mountain peak is situated in the western part of Karkonosze (Giant Mountains) on Polish and Czech border within the Karkonosze National Park. Its name originates from the Polish word "szron" (frost).

The building in the middle is the mountain hut/hostel at the top of the mountain.

Eurasian Nuthatch / sitta europaea. Calke Park, Derbyshire. 28/01/16.

The Nuthatches were quite vocal for a while during my time in the park.

A couple were chasing about together, presumably a pair.

All calling and activity ceased though when it clouded over. A lot of birds and animals seem to be confused by the peculiar winter we are experiencing!

I took this on Thursday 05/02/09 during the week of very heavy snow in the UK. This is a very, very old oak tree in a field where I walk my dog by my home.

Stepping back and a little to the left from the position from which the previously posted image was shot, I got all of the old, dead tree and its shadow in this image along with better views of the colorful hills.

One of my favorite roads is CA Hwy 393 between Lone Pine, CA and Bishop. On this trip a storm was moving out and the sky was pregnant with clouds. I stopped along the road to watch their shadows move across the mountains. These old trees and fenceline on a ranch made a good forground for a photo, thought I.

Old Fremont Cottonwood. Utah County, Utah.

Time has told me

You came with the dawn

A soul with no footprint

A rose with no thorn.

Your tears they tell me

There's really no way

Of ending your troubles

With things you can say.
