Map by Rand McNally: insets on reverse for Tampa, Miami, Cuba and the SE US. As late as 1957, Miami, Jacksonville and Tampa were the only Florida cities with populations over 100,000; though the state was a strong tourist magnet, the overwhelming majority of the state was still rural, and still very Southern in culture.

Ravensburger / 5000 pieces / 17 415 7 / 1990
Found this for a bargain (14.5 euro!) on German eBay with puzzle bag unopened. I believe Ravensburger reprinted this puzzle later with the new box design (www.puzzles-xxl.com/images/product_images/original_images...). Not sure if there is any difference between the puzzle in terms of color or print quality...

- Note that no mention or mark is made to indicate the presence of the Como Hotel (construction/official opening in late 1890).

Illustrations drawn and engraved by H. Winkles.
Plan drawn and engraved by John Rapkin
Scale: Six inches to one mile.
Produced by the London Printing and Publishing Company
Among several items of interest are:
The terminus of the Preston to Longridge Railway on Deepdale Road. This was the western extent of the line before the construction of the "Miley' tunnels
The inclusion of H. Winkles engravings of the North Union Railway Station and the Preston & Wyre Railway Viaduct.
The Moor Brook, seen at the very top of the map, running in the open. It was this watercourse that influenced the building of so many mills in the Adelphi district.

I now have a summer house. Nothing electronic is allowed in as it is a 'step-back-in-time' retreat. I love how peaceful and serene it is in there. Tea and biscuits in the summer house...heaven!

Map by Dolph Map Co. Greeeeen! Published for a local magazine distributor. In the 1990s, Richmond had quite an energetic and creative underground musical scene, and a song - "Oregon Hill" (neighborhood partially shown at bottom right in this pic) - by the Canadian band Cowboy Junkies offers something of a tip of the hat to the city.
Map by Hagstrom Maps. There is a city in Panama called David. I approve of this wholeheartedly! "Central America," it bears noting is not a separate continent, but is the southernmost part of North America - the divide between North and South American is generally accepted to be the Panama Canal. As an artificial body of water, this means that the two Americas are technically one continental mass, and some geographers consider north and South to simply be one large 'supercontinent,' in the fashion of Eurasia.
An old 1930s (I think) map of how Perth once had a thriving tram system, before it was all ripped up.
FINITE to fail, but infinite to venture.
For the one ship that struts the shore
Many’s the gallant, overwhelmed creature
Nodding in navies nevermore.

anyone who like old maps and anyone who lives in Western Washington will get a kick out of this; its a vintage map from about 1978 of the Olympic Peninsula that animated like a comic book and looks somewhat like a "where's Waldo puzzle. About 1 in 4 businesses featured on this map don't even exist anymore. I broke it down into 24 close ups, feel free to enlarge

Map by Thomas Brothers Maps. Barstow has several claims to fame - it's the hometown of singer-songwriter Stan Ridgway. It's also the western terminus of I-40, which travels east to Wilmington, North Carolina, a distance of slightly over 2555 miles. The section of I-40 from Barstow to Oklahoma City largely follows the historic route of US Highway 66.
There have been occasional efforts made to extend I-40 west, to I-5 northwest of Bakersfield; those proposals have been floating around since the late 1960s, but thus far have not come to pass. Barstow is also located in the largest county in the contiguous United States - San Bernardino County, which is about the size of Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts combined.
Struggling to find this location - there is a Kingsthorpe garage today but it looks nothing like this nor do the surrounding houses fit in really. There is a possibility that it was on the site of an Asda supermarkert. The oldmaps OS map of 1961 shows a garage where the Asda now is and shows houseing with footprints like the ones in this photo even though now they are seemingly all gone. www.google.com/maps/@52.2612436,-0.9004147,3a,75y,318.47h...
