Munster World Map - "Typus Orbis A Ptol Descriptus"
Published by Munster 1540
This superb reproduction of the original hand colored woodcut map of the World entitled, "Typus Orbis A Ptol Descriptus", was published by Munster circa 1540. The fact that this is one of the earliest maps attests to its glaring inaccuracies. Practically everything east of Arabia is conjecture. This reproduction map is decorated with the obligatory sea monsters and cherubic figures characteristic of Munster woodcuts.

Map by MAPCO, published for a magazine distributor. Cincinnati is named for (Lucius) Cincinnatus, a Roman imperial statesman whose well-documented modesty and altruistic impulses made him rather unique among Roman statesmen, and a political model rather unfortunately rare both then and now.

The inclined plane of Hill's tramroad from Blaenafon can be seen descending to Llanfoist wharf on the Brecon - Newport Canal (coloured red) - this operated on the balanced principle where the descending loaded trams were balanced on an endless rope by the ascending empty trams.
Of particular interest is the horse drawn "Tram Road" (coloured blue) shown running from left, Govilon Wharf, to Llanfoist and then to Abergavenny and northwards to Hereford via Pontrilas - the Abergavenny and Hereford Tramroad - This tramroad was commenced at Govilon in 1814 and completed at Hereford in 1829.
