Its an odd thing, we all know time is passing by minute by minute, day by day, but it comes as a surprise to most of us that we are old.
My sister who is younger than I am recently went to a presentation by a marketing firm regarding "banking for the elderly" and it was aimed at people younger than her.
( A surprise to her and the marketing firm doing the presentation. It seems a good idea to check who you are working for before your presentation offends them.)
With age comes experience, maturity, a view of the "bigger picture" and an absolute rage at being treated as stupid.
Take care .... all of you, old or young.
Old age takes away many things that will not come back. But in occasions, forbidden desires are revived ...
Maruyama kōen's star attraction is a pretty old weeping cherry tree (shidarezakura) which becomes lit up at night. Maruyama Park (円山公園, Maruyama kōen) is the main center for Hanami (cherry blossom viewing) in Kyoto.

"How strange it seems, that old age follows youth!
when all the world seemed one's own, at that time,
with time enough to seek a higher truth -
who'd guess the stairs so steep, so slow to climb?
Worn carpets and worn kneecaps are old age
- and yet, a blessed time for life of mind:
for those who wish, a different sense of wage;
free-chosen universal work to find;
and yet more blessed still: that earth-bound soul
to meet and greet, and work its soil and flowers;
to live with gratitude; and scan the whole
to find that One which proves the whole world ours.
As iron age yields to the gold of truth,
so our old age may find within, true youth."

"Stop wandering about! You aren't likely to read your own notebooks, or ancient histories, or the anthologies you've collected to enjoy your old age. Get busy with life's purpose, toss aside empty hopes, get active in your own rescue --if you care for yourself at all --and do it while you can." - Marcus Aurelius
And with that, the Daily Stoic has finished. I like to think I've learned a lot over the past 366 passages, but time will tell if I can put the words into action. Next year I will go back to taking photos when the mood takes me, but good luck to any of you continuing into 2025.
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they

A juvenile Four-lined Skink from the lower Rio Grande Valley of south Texas.
Like many species of Plestiodon, these skinks undergo ontogenetic color changes from young to old age. Hatchlings and young will have dark bodies with blue tails. As they age, both of these colors will turn tan and they will acquire two prominent light colored lateral lines that terminates at the groin of the rear legs. In older individuals these lines will fade as well and the skink will appear nearly monochromatic.

Approaching The Butchers Arms in the quiet village of Balscote in late afternoon sunshine.
This view was even better a few years ago when a huge tree at the bottom of the beer garden framed the view. Lost to old age I think.

The best most of us can hope for is defiance.
Be bold with the time you have.

Wrought iron and brick fence encircling the Edwin Johnson Homestead site just outside Maybell, Moffat County, Colorado.
Edwin C. Johnson served thirty four continuous years in public service to Colorado; Moffat and Routt County Legislator, Lt. Governor, three times elected Governor, and eighteen years as a United States Senator.
Ferne and Edwin Johnson erected this fence to preserve what was left of the home they built in 1910. This site is dedicated to all of the early homesteaders who helped settle Colorado.
Happy Fence Friday!
