ODT - Old, Aged, Elderly

"And we've all grown older,

come see where we have been,

Out here rusting in the rain."

- - Lyrics by Rod McKuen

The glory days of this old Caddy are long gone now. Sad to see what time and neglect can do. : ((

This is the daytime spot (east facing window) if we have sun.

continuing on with the month of Conor. I did shoot some other things but the film isn't finished yet. for the most part, I photographed conor every day, either at this window or the other one.

he's had a busy month. many appointments. what feels like too many medicines. and lots of ups and downs.

there are a lot of ups and downs in old age. he is teaching me that.

😽

p.s old age doesn’t stop him from modeling.

*oooh, she’s pointing that thing in my face again. i guess i should stare off into the distance and look serious.*

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning,

We will remember them.

I have made you and I will carry you;

I will sustain you and I will rescue you.

My first assignment in the Coast Guard was aboard the USCG Polar Star. I went on one deployment, having arrived after boot camp about a week before the ship got underway. Our home port was Seattle, Washington but I spent only a few weeks total in Seattle because as soon as we returned from our Arctic patrol I went to electronics school at Governors Island in New York. Later I went to Mare Island Naval base in near Alameda, California for Crypto electronics training. So I was one of two techs that worked on the ships (after training I didn't go back to the Polar Star, I was assigned to the Gallatin.) all of communication gear including the crypto gear.

This picture was taken from the helo hanger as one of our two helicopters returned from whatever assignment or training they had that day. I was fortunate and got to go on a couple of flights.

I been taking pictures that I want to start posting, so gonna finish these old film pictures today by adding links to some other pictures from the Polar Star days. Check them out if you like, or not, I know how hard it is just keeping up on Flickr, even without a bunch of extra stuff. Thanks in advance either way. You all make Flickr my favorite place to spend time, besides actually being out and taking pictures. (family is pretty important too, lol)

The marks of old age are the reflection of the soul

Possibly a Black Phoebe but I wouldn't stake my reputation on it. Not that I have one. I appreciate birds and love to watch/photograph them but I'm lucky if I remember where I've parked on any given day. Maybe my memory is full, but more likely it's old age and my youthful indiscretions

Saturn is the 6th planet from the Sun and the second largest gas giant in the Solar System, following Jupiter. It is easily visible in the night sky at the right time of the year.

This farmer is not going home. Trying to make himself comfortable in his plastic tent.

Either a sign of old age or an 0515 start, but neither Iain nor I fancied killing time on Skye waiting for a sunset that was looking less likely as the day went on. We decided to start heading home and to stop if anything caught our eye. At the end of Loch Duich we spotted some cloud around the tops of the Five Sisters and detoured towards Ratagan. After a walk around trying to find a shot we had all but decided to give it a miss when this blanket of cloud suddenly started to tumble down the peaks. Change of plan......

Do not go gentle into that good night,

Old age should burn and rave at close of day;

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,

Because their words had forked no lightning they

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright

Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,

And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight

Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,

Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Late nights, hard liquor, loud music, drugs and sex - - wreaks havoc on the body.

Not many survive to old age.

Keith Richards and Ozzy Osbourne being notable exceptions.

I suppose we all wish our lives had a bit more life in them.

Our beautiful boy Tigger went over the rainbow bridge on Friday the 15th of January, 2021. He had been unwell for a week and got to the stage where he had trouble walking. He was booked in to the vet next week to be put to sleep but he succumbed to old age before his appointment.

He passed away in the early hours and I found him deceased in his bed under the carport when I got up in the morning.

I buried him in the back yard garden. He was a good cat and rarely got into trouble. The above photo was taken in August, 2020.

“Tsuru Sen-nen, Kame Man-nen”

(As the Crane one thousand years, the Tortoise ten thousand years)

…is an old Japanese saying describing the symbols of youth and old age (long life), the Tsuru (crane) and Kame (tortoise).

I decided to put one of my miniature origami cranes on top of another tiny piece of origami. I kept thinking of a turtle but I didn't have one. I was reading Robert J Lang's book, Origami Design Secrets so decided to fold a small version of the simpler one in the book. In the meantime I took some shots of the crane on the square twist I folded from Thomas Hull's book, Origametry: Mathematical Methods in Paper Folding. It was OK, but I still wanted the turtle. The paper I used was really too small to give the model any hope, but it turned out surprisingly well. I look forward to folding it bigger when I get some appropriate paper for it. The crane has a wingspan of 40mm and the turtle is one mm longer from head to tip of tail. (~1.5")
