This historic old mill is at Decew Falls, Ontario, near Fonthill. It's a favourite spot for painters and must have been done many times. 10" x 14" on 300 lb. Arches cold pressed.
Shooting a home this afternoon at sundown when this tree wagged its ragged old arm at me, begging to have its photo taken.
This remains of this building are in Hillington, in the middle of a farmer's field, approximately 400 yards south of the main entrance to Arkleston Cemetery.
The picture is facing north west towards the Old Kilpatrick Hills, and the twin towers of Renfrew Old Parish Church and Renfrew Town Hall are just visible in the gap dead centre. I remember playing in this derelict building about 40 years ago when I was a child. You could walk across from Renfrew after Renfrew Airport was closed but before the M8 had opened. It was dilapidated then too. What was this building? Was it something to do with the airport or was it an old farmhouse?
It can be seen in the Secret Scotland website

Seen on an old postcard as displayed on a wall in Medieval Joyeuse. I don't know anything about the what or where abouts.

Still editing some old photos. On the positive side is that I probably will get my hands on a Canon 40D tomorrow :)
This hotel was in use as recently as 20 years ago, I remember that much. I have no idea what the original name was, I am still trying to find that out. It is one of the many sad historical structures found locally. I just wish I could have gotten closer. That fence is just too imposing to me.
Update: The name of this building was "the Coleman Hotel" and was very posh for the area. It was the first building in town to have had an elevator, and was quite the showdog :)
old broken rusty locomotive still on rails
- the previous version of the picture appeared too dark on many screens, so I have re-apploaded brighter one
This rather sorry looking bridge was built in the 1930's as part of the original A9 route improvement. It bypassed the old, stone bridge that can be seen in my previous photo. This photo was taken from the modern A9 bridge at this site, which lies between both the old bridges. Once the dual carriageway scheme makes it this far north, there will be a fourth bridge (wouldn't it be funny if they built it as a suspension bridge?) at this site.
The bridge currently has provision down it's western side for pedestrians and cyclists but the eastern side is somewhat dilapidated to the point where large chunks of concrete from the deck are hanging precariously over the river. Perhaps the A9 dualling will see this bridge repaired and used for the northbound carriageway? I doubt that'll be the case.
I really liked this old farm. Funnily, I actually stopped for the farm across the street but wound up spending much more time here. I’ve mentioned before that I was pretty worried about someone coming out to catch me trespassing. I had convinced myself that this place probably wasn’t really used anymore anyway. Looking at this photo, the number of tire tracks show that was a completely wrong assumption. Anyways, I got away with it and came off with a pretty cool shot.

A very old basketball that has been weathering the scorching hot sun and cold thunder storms for the past 4 years. The thing that caught my eye was the colour and texture of the rubber.

Built by Baldwin Locomotive Works of Philadelphia in 1913, “Old Cabbage Head” gets its name from the shape of its smoke stack. Because it has a wood burning boiler, a bulbous smoke stack was needed to catch burning embers that flew out of the engine. The engine was built for Taylor County Lumber Co. in north Florida and was used for hauling timber. It is a narrow gauge engine that originally had a wooden cab. It stayed in north Florida until its arrival in Manatee County in 1948 at the Manatee Noccatee Crate Mill Co. In 1952, the mill went out of business and the train was slated for the scrap heap until residents raised $900 for its purchase. For decades, visitors to Bradenton were greeted by Old Cabbage Head with “Welcome to Bradenton” painted on the tender car. In 2002, it was moved to Manatee Village Historical Park and reconditioned.
