Spent the day enjoying the arrival of Spring in Baker County Oregon. Wildflowers are starting to bloom and birds are starting to arrive for spring migration. Spotted a few new arrivals including white crowns yellow headed, redwing, and brewer’s blackbirds, and found ourselves under the watchful eye of several Great Horned Owls.

The very last sunrise of 2016 at Jenne Farm, Reading Vermont.
Often times a fairly busy location, photographers shoulder to shoulder waiting for the first rays of sunlight. On this last morning of '16 I was solo enjoying balmy 2 deg. above zero F temps and drifts of snow mid thigh.
Dawn light over Our Lady of the Rocks, off the coast of Perast in Bay of Kotor, in Kotor municipality, Montenegro. This picturesque island was artificially created in 1452, around a rock where an image of the Madonna was found. The Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady of the Rocks is the largest building on the islet.

Exploring the back roads and scenic byways as winter turns to spring in Baker County Oregon.
Spent the day watching the seasons change in Eastern Oregon, with big dramatic skies and snowcapped mountain peaks. Spring is starting to arrive on the valley floor but winter is still holding on up in the Elkhorns. Enjoyed a short hike around Phillip’s Lake where the lake is still thawing.

A beautiful winter day for exploring the winding back roads of the Baker and Keating valleys with spectacular views of the Wallowa and Elk Horn Mountains.
A little early for spring migration still but spotted a few fun birds including lots of Red Tail Hawks..

The province of Nan is located in the north of Thailand and borders Laos. It is one of the lesser known provinces of Thailand, but is known for its natural beauty, rich culture and ancient history. It's a great place to visit if you're looking for adventure and relaxation in nature. Road 1256 passes through the mountains of Nan and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding nature. Almost the most beautiful road in Thailand, the view on the side of the road is very beautiful, if you go during the rainy season, the atmosphere will be very good. You can see the green along the two sides of the road on the ridge. In some parts you can see the beautiful view of rice fields over the hills. It may be overgrown on some parts of the road. There are several interesting sights and activities to enjoy along the way. It's great for bird watching, camping, and hiking, and you're unlikely to meet many other people while exploring. You can also visit the Doi Phu Kha National Park, which is known for its beautiful waterfalls, lush forests and spectacular views. Wonderfully cool weather all year round. In addition, there are also several hill tribe villages along the way, where you have the chance to experience the local culture and traditions.
A traditional wooden hut in the mountains of Nan province is built using traditional construction techniques and is made of wood, bamboo and reeds. The cabins are usually located in the mountains and offer a beautiful view of the surrounding nature. They are often equipped with basic amenities such as a bed, a fan and a toilet. Some cabins also have a porch or balcony where you can enjoy the view and the fresh mountain air. The hill tribes live in these traditional simple cabins. The cabins are designed to suit the mountainous terrain and to provide protection from the weather. For example, the Hmong cabins are usually rectangular in shape and have a raised floor built on stilts. The roof is made of straw or grass and is often steep to drain rainwater. Inside, the cabins are divided into different areas, including a living room, bedroom and kitchen. Cabins are sometimes rented out by local families. These simple yet charming accommodations are often used by travelers looking for an authentic Thai experience. Staying in a traditional wooden cabin in the mountains of Nan province offers travelers a chance to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy the peace and quiet of nature. It is also a great way to experience the local culture and the hospitality of the Thai people.

The drive from Tetovo to the ski village of Popova Šapka slowly climbs upward, with each curve revealing a new view of the Šar Mountains. The road winds through forests and along mountain slopes, where autumn gently transforms the landscape from green to shades of gold and ochre. The pace naturally slows — not because of traffic, but because the scenery invites you to pause and take it in. In the photo, you see the arrival in Popova Šapka, high above Tetovo. In October, the village is still quiet; the ski season has yet to begin and the slopes lie silent. Instead of snow, there are autumn colors, crisp mountain air, and a sense of calm. Chalets and hotels are scattered across the hillside, overlooking the valley below. Standing out in the landscape is the mosque, its slender minaret rising above the village as a familiar landmark. It serves as a reminder that even here, high in the mountains, daily life and faith remain closely connected. On the other side of the village stands the Church of St. Naum of Ohrid, highlighting the unique character of Popova Šapka — a place where different religious traditions coexist, surrounded by nature and silence. At this time of year, the village feels almost suspended in time — no skis, no crowds, only the quiet of the mountains, soft light, and the feeling of being momentarily removed from the world below.

De weg slingert door bossen en langs berghellingen, waar in de herfst de kleuren langzaam veranderen van groen naar goud en oker. Het tempo vertraagt vanzelf — niet door het verkeer, maar door het landschap dat uitnodigt om te kijken. Op de foto zie je de aankomst in Popova Šapka, hoog boven Tetovo gelegen. In oktober is het hier nog rustig; het skiseizoen moet nog beginnen en de pistes liggen stil. In plaats van sneeuw overheersen herfstkleuren, frisse berglucht en een kalme sfeer. De chalets en hotels liggen verspreid tegen de hellingen, met uitzicht over het dal beneden. Opvallend in het landschap is de moskee, die met haar slanke minaret boven het dorp uittorent. Ze vormt een herkenbaar oriëntatiepunt en herinnert eraan dat ook hier, hoog in de bergen, het dagelijkse leven en geloof samenkomen. Aan de andere kant van het dorp ligt de Church of St. Naum of Ohrid, wat het bijzondere karakter van Popova Šapka onderstreept: een plek waar verschillende religieuze tradities naast elkaar bestaan, omgeven door natuur en stilte. Close to the village of Arsha in the Kazbegi region lies the Arsha Waterfall, about five kilometers from Stepantsminda Kazbegi. The hike to the waterfall is considered easy and typically takes three to four hours. The trail is unpaved but well-trodden, surrounded by lush meadows, and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The waterfall is one of the lesser-known natural attractions in the area, contributing to its untouched and serene atmosphere. A bit further along is the Toti Waterfall, accessible via a steep trail that passes above the Arsha Waterfall. This waterfall offers spectacular panoramic views and is an ideal spot for a picnic. Visitors can enjoy the tranquility, the breathtaking nature, and even take a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear water. For adventure seekers, it's possible to continue the hike to the nearby Gergeti Glacier, making the journey a full-day excursion.
The journey to the waterfall is a true challenge, yet also a breathtaking experience. The trail winds through rugged, arid terrain with steep inclines and loose rocks. Hikers must be well-prepared, as certain sections can be demanding and exhausting. However, the reward upon arrival is well worth it: a refreshing breeze from the waterfall and a stunning panoramic view. In the photo, Kanitha is seen reaching the Arsha Waterfall after an adventurous climb, set against the rugged, mountainous landscape of the Kazbegi region. The waterfall in the foreground contrasts strikingly with the dry surroundings, creating a spectacular natural destination. The steep slopes and untouched wilderness highlight both the challenge and the extraordinary beauty of this remote location..
Nabij het dorp Arsha in de Kazbegi-regio ligt de Arsha-waterval, op ongeveer vijf kilometer van Stepantsminda Kazbegi. De wandeling naar de waterval wordt als eenvoudig beschouwd en duurt doorgaans drie tot vier uur. Het pad is ongebaand maar goed begaanbaar, omringd door weelderige weiden en biedt prachtige uitzichten op de omliggende bergen. Toch blijft de tocht een ware uitdaging, maar tegelijkertijd een prachtige ervaring. Het landschap verandert geleidelijk van glooiende weiden naar ruigere, drogere grond met steile hellingen en losse stenen. Wandelaars moeten goed voorbereid zijn, want sommige delen van de route kunnen veeleisend en vermoeiend zijn. Maar eenmaal aangekomen, wacht de beloning: een verkoelende bries van de waterval en een adembenemend uitzicht. Op de foto is te zien hoe Kanitha, na een avontuurlijke klim, aankomt bij de Arsha-waterval, gelegen in het ruige, bergachtige landschap van Kazbegi. De waterval op de voorgrond vormt een sterk contrast met het dorre terrein, wat bijdraagt aan de ongerepte en serene sfeer. De steile hellingen en ongerepte wildernis onderstrepen zowel de uitdaging als de ongekende schoonheid van deze afgelegen plek. Nog iets verder ligt de Toti-waterval, bereikbaar via een steil pad dat bovenlangs de Arsha-waterval loopt. Deze waterval biedt spectaculaire panoramische uitzichten en is een ideale plek voor een picknick. Bezoekers kunnen hier genieten van de rust, de natuur en zelfs een verfrissende douche nemen in het heldere water. Voor de echte avonturiers is het mogelijk om verder te trekken naar de nabijgelegen Gergeti-gletsjer, wat de wandeling tot een dagvullende activiteit maakt.

Thailand is home to several beautiful national parks that showcase the country's diverse natural beauty. The Doi Phu Kha National Park is located near the border between Thailand and Laos. The National Park is also home to the highest mountain peak in the province. The highest point is also called Doi Phu Kha at an altitude of 1,920 meters. If you are traveling to Doi Phu Kha National Park from Nan, I will definitely recommend staying here for a night. Most of the year the weather is nice and the view is stunning early in the morning. A moderate intensity nature trail with a large map detailing the route starts behind the National Park Visitor Center and continues for 2km, ending at a small village. The most beautiful is the viewpoint with a very large 1715 digits representing the height of the point. There is also a campground near the area. But you have to bring your own tent. It takes about 2 hours to complete. However, there is definitely some climbing to do. Please wear trekking boots for the hike. The monsoon is not the best time to do this as there are many leeches and other reptiles that you may not appreciate.

Het grootste deel van het jaar is het mooi weer en het uitzicht is verbluffend vroeg in de ochtend. Een natuurpad van matige intensiteit met een grote kaart met de details van de route begint achter het bezoekerscentrum van het Nationaal park en gaat 2 km lang door en eindigt bij een klein dorp. Het mooiste is het uitkijkpunt met een zeer grote 1715 cijfers die de hoogte van het punt weergeeft. Er is ook een camping in de buurt van het gebied. Maar je moet je eigen tent meenemen. Het duurt ongeveer 2 uur om te voltooien. Er is echter zeker wat te klimmen. Draag trekking schoenen voor de wandeling. De moesson is niet de beste tijd om dit te doen, aangezien er veel bloedzuigers en andere reptielen zijn die je misschien niet op prijs stelt.

More Lost Coast views - Northern California
Was waiting on the fog to break and hopefully create some atmosphere, luckily it did! It sure didn't look like it was going to break, it was cold and grey a few minutes earlier. This was taken the first night of our 25 mile backpacking trip that had an equivalent elevation gain and loss as hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and hiking back up to the rim. We saw the most people this evening but towards the end of the trip the amount of people became lower and lower. The last day we didn't see a soul for miles and miles, guess that's part of the reason why they call it the "Lost Coast".
I'm guessing this is wild buckwheat so if you know please chime in. Thanks for viewing.

The province of Nan is located in the north of Thailand and borders Laos. It is one of the lesser known provinces of Thailand, but is known for its natural beauty. Rice planting is one important agricultural activity in Thailand and it is part of the country's culture and traditions. The rice planting process in Thailand starts with preparing the soil. The farmers plow the soil to loosen it and provide it with nutrients. Then the rice seeds are planted in separate beds. After the seeds have germinated, the young rice plants are planted on the rice fields. These rice fields are usually arranged in terraces to better manage the water and ensure even irrigation. Planting rice is usually done manually, where the farmers manually put the rice plant into the ground. After planting, the fields are usually immersed in water to protect the rice plants from weeds and pests. After about 4 to 6 months, the rice is fully grown and ready to be harvested. After harvesting, the rice grains are washed and dried before being stored or sold at the market. Rice is an important source of food in Thailand and is used in many dishes from curries to fried rice dishes.
We were warmly welcomed to the enchanting farm stay ฮ้างนาตาจันทร์ in Pua, nestled in the middle of vast rice fields. As we immersed ourselves in the soothing atmosphere of Doi Phu Kha National Park, our senses were pampered with the lush green splendor of nature. It was a true oasis of serenity, where we could settle down and completely relax. The mornings started with a gentle breeze that greeted us as we enjoyed a delicious breakfast with fresh local produce. In the afternoon we cooled down at the nearby Tat Luang waterfall, a majestic waterfall that let its cool water flow into beautiful pools. In the evening, the moonlight lit up the rice fields like an enchanting spectacle. We basked in the stillness of the night, surrounded by a symphony of crickets and the soothing sounds of nature.
De provincie Nan is gelegen in het noorden van Thailand en grenst aan Laos. Het is één van de minder bekende provincies van Thailand, maar staat bekend om zijn natuurlijke schoonheid. Rijstplanten is één belangrijke landbouwactiviteit in Thailand en het is een onderdeel van de cultuur en de tradities van het land. Het proces van rijstplanten in Thailand begint met het voorbereiden van de grond. De boeren ploegen de grond om deze los te maken en te voorzien van voedingsstoffen. Vervolgens worden de rijstzaden in aparte bedden geplant. Nadat de zaden zijn ontkiemd, worden de jonge rijstplantjes uitgeplant op de rijstvelden. Tijdens het planten van de rijst worden de deelnemers vermaakt met muziek en zang, en wordt er vaak eten en drinken gedeeld. Bij het samen rijst planten komen de lokale gemeenschappen bij elkaar om samen rijst te planten. Dit is niet alleen een manier om de rijstoogst te voltooien, maar ook een gelegenheid om de sociale banden binnen de gemeenschap te versterken. Na ongeveer 4 tot 6 maanden is de rijst volgroeid en klaar om geoogst te worden. We werden hartelijk verwelkomd in de betoverende boerderijaccommodatie ฮ้างนาตาจันทร์ in Pua, gelegen te midden van uitgestrekte rijstvelden. Terwijl we ons onderdompelden in de rustgevende sfeer van het Doi Phu Kha National Park, werden onze zintuigen verwend met de weelderige groene pracht van de natuur. Het was een ware oase van sereniteit, waar we konden neerstrijken en volledig ontspannen. De ochtenden begonnen met een zacht briesje dat ons begroette terwijl we genoten van een heerlijk ontbijt met verse streekproducten. In de namiddag vonden we verkoeling bij de nabijgelegen Tat Luang waterval, een majestueuze waterval die zijn koele water in fraaie poelen liet stromen. 's Avonds verlichtte het maanlicht de rijstvelden als een betoverend schouwspel. We koesterden ons in de stilte van de nacht, omringd door een symfonie van krekels en het rustgevende geluid van de natuur..
Big Horn Sheep in Burnt River Canyon in Baker County
A beautiful New Year’s Day exploring the Burnt River Canyon and watching wildlife between Durkee and Unity in Baker County Oregon with lots of Bighorn Sheep out to help us ring in the new year.
The Burnt River Canyon near Durkee is always one of our favorite drives for taking in the majestic scenery of Eastern Oregon and watching wildlife along the way. Saw lots of wildlife this trip as colder temperatures have pushed lots of deer down into the canyon. We were excited to spot a few Bighorn Sheep in rut during this trip

The ancient, raw bones of the earth lay bare across the Sylvia Grinnell flood plain.
