View from Saltburn-by-the-Sea, North Yorkshire, England.

A lot of the lovely old buildings at the Torquay Harbour are now bars and restaurants. This is our favourite spot for coffees and an evening drink. It looks quiet here but it was quite chilly. There is a always a lull early evenings after before things start up again.

SSCV Thialf and pipelaying vessel Audacia in Caland canal, Rosenburg.

5sec exposure on slippery rocks, just getting down there was a real adrenalinerush on it`s own :)

Audacia:

Audacia is Allseas’ latest pipelay vessel. Operational since December 2007, she is optimised for the execution of small to large diameter pipeline projects of any length in all water depths, and for associated work such as the installation of risers and subsea protection frames.

Audacia is 225 m long, which in terms of size places her between Allseas’ DP pipelay vessels Lorelay and Solitaire. Precise manoeuvring on full dynamic positioning (DP) with a stinger positioned on the bow allow Audacia to work safely in congested areas and lay pipes in very deep water. Pipeline start-ups and lay-downs are executed in very quick time ensuring any disruption to other activities near platforms is minimised.

Due to her long length and ship-shape Audacia can accommodate multiple work stations and has a greater pipe hold capacity, while her independence from anchor handlers and large buffer capacity ensure she is less dependent on pipe off-loading from supply vessels. Her high transit speed, high lay speed and large carrying capacity make Audacia highly competitive for pipelay projects anywhere in the world.

SSCV Thialf:

Thialf has two cranes with a combined maximum lifting capacity of 14,200 metric tons, making it the largest crane vessel in the world. It is equipped with a class III dynamic positioning system. Propulsion and position keeping is by six 5,500 kW retractable azimuthing thrusters. For shallow waters there are 12 Flipper Delta anchors, 22.5 t, with 2,500 meter, 80 mm mooring wire.

The hull consists of two pontoons with four columns each. Transit draught is about 12 meters. For lifting operations it will normally be ballasted down to 26.6 m (87 ft). This way the pontoons (with a draught of 13.6 meters) are well submerged to reduce the effect of waves and swell.

It is able to accommodate 736 people.

Lightship weight is 72,484 t

This is version 2 of "offshore" as I'm learning new ways of working on my images all the time. It's a combination of two different conversions of the RAW file, worked as 16-bit tiffs. This enabled me to get beter colour saturation and contrast without the usual image degredation of working on a jpeg. I'm also happier with the compostion after using photoshop "transform/distort" to straighten the horizon and place the yacht lower in the frame.

Again a surprise choice of allocation when better vehicles were available, 69254 on the Bridge of Don P&R shuttle at TECA.

Giant structures that are dominating the skyline on the River Tyne mark the revival of the region’s offshore sector,

The 70m-high structures can be seen along the banks of the Tyne as companies such as Smulders Projects and Royal BAM Group build foundations for offshore wind farms

My Photostream on black

This was actually a pretty decent sunrise but while looking at some black and white images one night I got the urge to see what I could do with this one....I am still not all that sure about my black and white conversions but I will keep trying! I did add a little extra sharpening to give it that look of film.....

Camera: Canon EOS 5D Mark II

Exposure: 8 seconds

Aperture: f/13.0

First sunrise for 2011... unfortunately there was in fact no visible sunrise. Rain settled in about two hours before Sunrise. This is one of four shots I took before I decided the rain was too intense.

It is said that at the next election the lady will be candidate with the party "OFFSHORE COMPANIES" / Γνωστό ζεύγος με πολιτικές, κοινωνικές,πνευματικές, καλλιτεχνικές, πολιτιστικές , οικολογικές, οικονομικές κ.λ.π. κ.λ.π.

Thank you all for your visit.

Taken a week before Christmas as the golden light from the rising sun hit the surf at my local beach. I thought a 16X7 format suited the shot.

Thanks for looking.
