I put a bar with a triangular carbide bit in a cross-slide vise and clamped it to the lathe bed. Then using a Joyner offset chuck I made a series of cuts, indexing the plate by 2 positions (30 degrees) each time. This was not what I was originally expecting, but when I saw what was happening I ran with it all the way around. In this dark wood (bocote) it really needs something in the cuts to make the show. This pattern would probably work better in a lighter wood. The piece is slightly less than 1" diameter overall.
Offset Disc Harrow when mounted on a tractor, becomes a compact unit that can easily be maneuvered into corners or on short head lands. The spring loaded head stock brace of the mounted harrow allows flexibility of the unit over uneven terrain or where obstructions are likely to be met. It is used in open field workings for the superficial ploughing, for the shattering of clods, preparation of soil for sowing, burial of organic substances & remains. It can be used in light and medium soil. - www.atcomaart.com/pd/57516766495148554969/offset-disc-har...
Used silver "rub n buff" to fill in and highlight the pattern. Not sure I like this stuff, it's messy and coated the entire piece, then I had to clean it off the face without disturbing the stuff in the grooves. Needs some experimenting. It also was a bit dull after I sanded the face a few grits. I think I need to finish sand, then fill, clean off the face and apply a finish coat like brushing lacquer.
