Each year Leukaemia and Blood Cancer New Zealand (LBCNZ) is supported by thousands of hair cuts… Well… hair shaves.
In 2010, some friends decided to put on their own event. Dubbed the “Great Shave Tweetup”, they took over One 2 One cafe for the afternoon, and raised a heap of cash. Lovely humans one and all.
It was their example I followed when later helping to organise events in the years to come…

Each year, Mercy Hospice Auckland releases an annual report with a difference.
Not only do they pass on the usual information, they showcase some of the people that helped them achieve the results. The generous contribution of volunteers, the community, businesses, and the amazing staff, is incalculably valuable to those who need their support.
I shot portraits of just a few of those people for the report. It was an amazing experience to meet them, and learn their stories.
Download a copy of the report here.

January 25, 2010.
Tomorrow is a day off for everyone, a public holiday to celebrate Australia Day.
I followed my boss' lead, and decided to take today (Monday) off.
I thought I was gonna be so productive, catch up with a lot of things, be really satisfied by the end of the day, and then realise that I had another day off on Tuesday!
NAH!
So many adjectives I could use to describe how today has turned out, but I'll just go with BLAH!
(I just realised... what a stark contrast to last Monday!!)
Three young women came up with a novel way to raise money… The created clothing lines, and put on a fashion show!
The funds raised were for an IOSIS safe-house in South Auckland, catering to disadvantaged, or at risk, young women.
The most surprising, & wonderful, thing about this event… None of the young women who brought this event together are professional designers!

Remco's complete off day...
Friday, September 8: Stage 13: Formigal/Huesca la Magia - Col du Tourmalet, 134.7 km
REMCO EVENEPOEL (2000) suffered a serious blow away in the big queen stage of the Vuelta. At the top of the iconic Tourmalet he finished 27 minutes behind Tour winner Jonas Vingegaard. It was already at the Aubisque that the lights went out for Remco. Bye-bye ranking ambitions. On the picture above he crosses the finish line in 60th place in the company of teammate MATTIA CATTANEO. The deficit did give a distorted picture because he had let it all go on the flanks of the Tourmalet. He apologized profusely to his teammates for this: "Sorry, sorry, guys!" But that's not even necessary. It was clear, Evenepoel had a bad day, the worst of his still young career. That can happen to great champions... and certainly doesn't have to be a drama for the future.
