I can still hear the Sulzer engines ticking over as this class 25 No.25130 and class 44 No.44008 'Penyghent' line up to move off Toton TMD on 13th March 1979, the driver of the 'Rat' seeking permission to move off shed and the driver of the 'Peak' climbing down from his cab ready to undertake the same procedure.

25130 was built at BR Derby Works and introduced into BR service during July 1964 as D5280 an allocated to Toton shed (16A). Withdrawn from service on 5th December 1982 and cut up during March 1987 at BREL Swindon Works.

44008 was also built at BR Derby Works and introduced into BR service in December 1959 as D8. She was withdrawn during November 1980 but was lucky, and can now be found in preservation, on the quite appropriately-named for this locomotive, Peak Railway.

Another one from the hard drives...Barred Owl taking off..........

“Santa’s sleigh is all loaded and ready to go. Thank you, elves, for all your hard work. Hopefully, this Christmas will be a little brighter for some people.”

“I know this season can be hard on those who lost things or more importantly, people. I lost my uncle after a long illness.”

“And I think of my grandmother who died just before Christmas years ago. We talk about her a lot.”

“My cousin lost his house in a bad storm and lost everything.”

“But hopefully we understand that Christmas is what blessings we have that help us think of things that cannot be lost or taken away.”

“You’re right, Jill Ellyn. We can also be thankful for the blessings of this past year as well.”

“Oh, wait! Where’s Bentley? I lost him!”

. . . it's hinges.

This photo does not do justice to witnessing the event of breaking off and collapsing glacier chunk. At first, there is a loud, empty-like cracking sound which alerts you that something is about to happen. This is followed by a sight of a collapsing chunk of the wall of ice into the water. The collapse is accompanied by a thunder-like sound of the collapsing ice as well as the sound of waves made by the displaced water. Then, there is a farily long-lasting slushing sound of the small icebers bumping into each other as they come to rest in the water. The event exposes the most beautiful blue ice in the glacier wall. Although the crackling and small break offs are fairly common on Perito Moreno Glacier, it is not easy to witness a sizeable event as this one. We got lucky to witness the event portrayed here, but then unsuccessfully waited and waited for another one.
