When i took this photo originally, I didn't even know the birds were there!
We went bush whacking in the Royal National Park to Garie Beach and there was just nothing but bush...and then these flowers which towered above everything else!
No idea what they're called though....
This is Prestwick Railway Station and it could easily be the ending or the beginning of your train journey!

The Atlantean doing its best Lynx nose up stance. We are leaving the bus like this as we have yet to complete work on the front springs. Hopefully this will be complete next weekend
I was looking at the layout of the leaf springs on this wagon and I don't know if this might be an official "buckboard." I can see that folks on the seat could be pitched off to the side. This angle of the old horse-drawn wagon is from the gatherings side in the outdoors venue at Gold Hill Inn. Outdoor concerts are held at the Charles Sawtell venue outdoors. Always hook the drop gate back up! Gold Hill today is, in all actuality, a pretty popular spot what with the Lodge (posted in Gold Hill group) and events, dinners and concerts at the Inn of some repute. Charlie Sawtell was popular in Boulder, Gold Hill and even the Boulder radio station, KGNU. Now that is an unbelievably ECLECTIC station that can be accessed on the web. I once heard a fellow in Japan make a pledge. One day I had to slow as one of the Colorado senators walked across the street from the Inn. I recommend driving slowly up there, at least so you don't hit the end of the street (or the dogs). This rope was hung on the fence near the Sawtell outdoor venue. It kind of sets the stage especially for country folk. I have met many of the players from that era. Maybe Stills, Nash and Young are still polluted under the stand. If they are, they are well preserved. The Caribou Ranch Recording Studio was up the road.
We were heading down on Gold Run Street in Gold Hill and already running out of time and getting drips and sprinkles on my fourth try in the year. The light is going, going and without the monopod, I would be SOL at this speed. It was sharp enough though. A "lode" of opportunities exist up and down Main but as you can see from the shadows and sky, Again, I have limited time until the next round of rain. I expect the historical designation is responsible for most of the ambiance. There is a mix of old log and milled lumber structure construction, and lumber milled to look like logs. That was a fad in the past. Often mills arrived at booming camps early along with the newspaper. That and the mine timbers accounted for the lack of timber in photographs from early days.
Gold Hill is a remnant of the oldest Colorado mining days and I caught sight of this shot that most illustrates mountain life. To say Gold Hill tops a mountain ridge is accurate with the road east and west rise while Lickskillet, north, and GoldRun, south to Boulder, drop off the sides of the ridge. If I remember correctly, the Horsfal lode was perhaps the earliest strike in Gold Hill and was responsible for the earliest development. As Wiki puts it: Gold Hill is accessible from nearby Left Hand Canyon Road via Lick Skillet Road, the steepest county road in the United States. It IS safe in first gear IF you have good brakes. Be very careful on your way down but when you get to Lefthand in the valley, you need extra caution in the canyon, As much as half the road is dirt and temporary to provide access after the floods. It is not ready for paving yet and there was no heavy machinery around. Yet again, I have to return to make a another stab at covering Gold Hill. The sprinkles warned us to backtrack down Lickskillet with alacrity. It was almost rain when we peeked at the cemetery.
Gold Hill has lasted for decades through the original gold boom, the second gold boom, the silver boom and its 1893 demonetization and finally the return to reliance on gold and tungsten mining and processing. It has never completely died and is not accurately, a ghost town. It's history of transportation was a bit tortured considering one route was Lickskillet. I assume most transportation was to and from the Gold Hill Railway Station when the Switzerland Trail rails were laid west on its way to Ward. The steep sides of the canyon originally meant the road up from Boulder had to ascent the canyon. Old Gold Hill still lives on in this century-old mining camp. The narrow gauge route was never built from old Hill Station (see the map). The town continued to cling to the foothills above Boulder.

“Tickets, please!”
“I have mine here.”
“That’s good, but your luggage will have to go into the luggage compartment.”
“But this is my teddy bear.”
“I said all luggage...”
“Okay, then. Sorry, Bentley. Rules are rules.”
I knocked off work early today, went out side and saw that there was a bit of cloud on the horizon setting up for a good sunset.
I dashed home, got out of the suit and into some shorts and thongs and went down to the beach. As I went out the front door, I picked up the red frame which I had made up for a previous photoshoot and decided I would trash it in the ocean.
It is officially trashed now :) But i got some great shots :)

Atlantis successfully took off today marking the last mission of the US space shuttle program. I'm sorry I never got to see a live launch. I always took it for granted that at some point I'd get around to it. We tried to catch Discovery last fall but there were numerous delays. Yesterday NASA announced that due to unfavorable weather conditions Atlantis might be delayed a day. It was good news for me because it would give us a chance to drive up after work tonight and if all worked out we would get to watch the last shuttle go up. Sadly it didn't work out that way.
Another life lesson to stop putting things on hold. Stop assumimg that such things will always be around - waiting for me to show up when I'm ready : )

A quick photo in my garden before heading off to my friends for her birthday party at an even more amazing garden. It was indeed "The Enchanted Garden". Such a great place for a party!!!
This is one of my all time favorite photographs. The face off of two Donga fighters, the tension is palpable. These Suri men are moments away from engaging in a very intense stick fight and a lot is on the line. You can see it in the faces. It is very important for young Suri men to do well in a Donga fight. A lot of pride is on the line. These fights (which are now illegal to photograph) are very violent and serious injuries and even death can occur. I got lucky with the light and the rain that day as well. I have photographed other Donga fights in bright noon day light. This time the clouds rolled in and the rain started to come down at the perfect moment! It really adds to the drama of the scene. I have a whole Donga portfolio I will eventually upload.
Before heading to the car I couldn't resist this going shot. This really shows the grade leveling off right before the Golf Road bridge!
Sometimes having super heroes at BAM HQ doesn't always run smoothly, especially when one of them is Logan!!
"Back off Bub!, I don't care what your the god of!"
“With a single stroke Neville sliced off the great snake’s head, which spun high into the air, gleaming in the light flooding from the entrance hall, and Voldemort’s mouth was open in a scream of fury that nobody could hear, and the snake’s body thudded to the ground at his feet-“

Go Neville go! Neville Longbottom, went from total ditz to utter epicness. If he can do it, so can you.
Kind of sad to see Nagini go. Not the book one, I mean my LEGO one, it came out way better than I’d hoped.

It's past time to take it off the map. This little pod of ice and snow has been labeled on maps as Schoolroom Glacier since topographic maps were first created for this area. While it still serves as a good example of many components of a glacier, it no longer has the mass and depth to meet the definition of a glacier. Many snow patches like this exist on our maps, labeled as "permanent snowfields." We could probably get a first edition, maybe two, of new maps with this designation. After that, we'll most likely have to remove the word, "permanent." But maybe not! A five-year cold snap could turn things around and start a new trend of cooling. My guess is that it's unlikely the human race will witness the next ice age.
I took this snapshot yesterday while descending the highest peak in the range.
Donta Autry takes the hand off from Javon Carter during the South View Tiger's 23-17 double overtime win against the Terry Sanford Bulldogs on November 1, 2019 at Randy Ledford Field at South View High School in Hope Mills, North Carolina.
On my trek out west to track down Ron, I drove around by Crane Hollow and stopped at his home. He wasn't there or at work and I always wondered what the abandoned barn out west of his place looked like close up. I headed out from Ron's place to do a survey of the area. Before I got very far, I captured this old railway box car that was used around the area to store agricultural tools and supplies. Farmer Broley added an attached shed for extra protection; pretty spiffaroony. This is a common sight across the prairies. This is not far from the rail line to Lyons. The walk on the roof pegs this as over 50 years old but it's construction takes it far further back. It has double formed metal end plates and wood sided construction. This car's construction involved assembling a lot of parts. Crews were discouraged from even using the attached ladders to climb to the roof and avoid sure accidents. The bottom corners sport poling pockets that were removed from cars after a raft of accidents. Poles of wood allowed crews to relocate cars by a simple push from engines but the pole often split and injured yardmen. The drawbar (coupler) assembly was cut from the car ends; I suppose that was for recycling.
I'd better get a move on from the look of the sky. The temps were back up as was the humditty. We'll, OK I would have turned in the distance at Golden Ponds anyway! There are plenty of gravel pond beyond here anyway.
.
The gravel companies buy up the rights to recover the gravel but I am not sure they bought the rights to lay the land barren and strip it otherwise of any future production. People in India remind us that we are unlikely to get any milk from the recently slaughtered cow. I wonder what the price of gravel might be if the cost of the price of returning the ground back to production after removing the gravel were included. Willie Shakespeare's "pound of flesh" perhaps. I expect that the meandering ditch at my feet waters little but pastures any more.
