It was so funny to see two female Merganzers hanging around a large group of Mallards and getting quite snippy when they felt too crowded!!! Usually when Merganzers get one look at you they take off asap, but these two were just part of the crowd!

More grid action at Armathwaite, expected this time, thanks to DD for the gen. On hire from GBRf to Colas, large-logo 56098 made its predicted appearance on 6J37 1252 Carlisle Yard-Chirk timber piloting 56049. Unfortunately, the habitual late-running meant the classic shot on the nearer part of the embankment was heavily shadowed, coming off the viaduct presented the most solid patch of light. Don’t be fooled by the 85mm lens in the EXIF data, this is a severe crop!
For a while now I've wanted to try cross processing my film. I was given some lomography 120 slide film for Christmas so I thought this was the perfect opportunity. So I had this roll of slide film developed in the chemicals meant for regular negative film, hence the funky colors. I think it makes for an interesting look.
While Soo yard bound 411 lead by a WC GP40 cools its heels in the distance waiting for this job to clear CN 9540 and 4703 team up to lift the Munising job around the wye and up the hill leaving Trout Lake on May 30, 2004. These beat up CN GP40-2W's were a sorry replacement for most of the WC power they replaced in visual appeal and possibly mechanically to.
I take the day off and hang out at the studio. Nothing too hard just following up on the last couple weeks of production. It looked warm out but it wasn't so when I got to the studio and had to grab a coat and take it easy. Tomorrow we work.
While driving down a country road in west Ottawa I spotted a small, unusual white 'bump' just sticking up from a clump of corn stalks about 50 meters (160 feet) into the field. A check with binoculars confirmed my guess.
It was a VERY cold, windy morning but I waited this bird out from a distance at the roadside. It had been actively scanning the surrounding field.
Finally it took off. The wind was to my advantage as it was blowing hard from over my right shoulder so the owl took off into the wind and partially facing me.

It is november but already the buds are visible on the shrubs in my garden. And it has been raining all week. Such nice combination.
I also further tried the new mask functionality in Lightroom Classic. It is really amazing how easy it is to select the subject and process background and subject separately. I do notice however some chromatic aberration top left, at the lower part of the stem (purple), the upper part of the stem (green) and the top part of the drop (green). No idea how to remove that....

While photographing this ram, a magpie landed on his back and sat there for a few minutes before taking off. He didn't seem to be a bit bothered by its presence which was kind of surprising; apparently they have learned to coexist. Didn't even realize I captured the take off until sorting through the images when I returned; a nice bonus.

Most of the piers along the Embarcadero are either still working piers or have been converted into bars, restaurants, museums etc. This one (I forget its number) was fenced off and looked in a bit of a state. Given the price of real estate in San Francisco it's surprising to see something this size unused.
