Saturn's odd but ever-intriguing F ring displays multiple lanes and
several bright clumps. The Keeler and Encke gaps are visible in the outer
A ring, at right.
This view looks toward the unilluminated side of the rings from about 28
degrees above the ringplane.
The image was taken in visible light with the Cassini spacecraft
narrow-angle camera on May 5, 2007 at a distance of approximately 2.1
million kilometers (1.3 million miles) from Saturn. Image scale is 12

The Cassini-Huygens mission is a cooperative project of NASA, the European
Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency. The Jet Propulsion Laboratory,
a division of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, manages
the mission for NASA's Science Mission Directorate, Washington, D.C. The
Cassini orbiter and its two onboard cameras were designed, developed and
assembled at JPL. The imaging operations center is based at the Space
Science Institute in Boulder, Colo.

On an early morning drive today I came upon a dirt pasture with an odd looking "rock" in it.The "rock" had ear tufts and turned into a great horned owl! It was sleeping out in the open and didn't move much when I got out of the car for photos. It barely cracked an eye. Why it was there, I have no clue, but I was even more surprised that the nearby ravens and crows paid no attention to it. Perhaps they thought it was a rock, too! Same bird an hour later. It just shuffled around to face the sun. Clarkston, WA
At a beach in Moss Landing. If anyone knows the name of the beach behind Phil's Market, let me know, please.
A robin with very unusual markings I've been seeing in my yard. I've learned that this is called leucism and it stems from a lack of melanin in the feathers. Birds like this are often called pie-bald.
Goats have suddenly become magnetically attracted to my face, meanwhile, Mr. Potato Head is planning to assault me from behind! What a terribly predictable end to 2011!
