The winters are long, television reception is poor and the Jacabobs and Bunnies spend days on end cooped up in their little dens at the end of the garden. Sometimes in the spring we have the odd surprise.

The Jacabobs came in for breakfast this morning with this little one trundling up the path behind them. It is still too small to have developed ears so I can be quite sure yet of its origin.

Evelynn, Clarice and Bernice, the sheep down the road gladly donate their wool to the needle felting cause to the extent of being nearly naked most of the time. This little Odd One I suspect, is made from their wool. He gets along well with his den mates and ate a full breakfast of muffins and jam.

Cornerstone for an Oddfellow's lodge in Avondale (Birmingham, Alabama)

This deer has very odd white markings around the eyes and on its snout, but it also has a very elongated snout and a serious overbite! It was standing with 7 or 8 other does and it was the only one on which I could not see its chin when looking head on. See next photo in series.

I was playing around with the "pinhole" effect on my Lumix LX5 last night, and this happened. This odd strip down one side of the image. Anyone seen this before, and/or know what it is or why it occurred?

Glanville Fritillary (Melitaea cinxia). The Glanville Fritillary is named after Lady Eleanor Glanville, a 17th century Lepidopterist who discovered this species in Lincolnshire. After her death, one of her sons contested her will on the grounds of lunacy, as eloquently described by Moses Harris in "The Aurelian" in 1766: "This Fly took its Name from the ingenious Lady Glanvil, whose Memory had like to have suffered for her Curiosity. Some Relations that was disappointed by her Will, attempted to let it aside by Acts of Lunacy, for they suggested that none but those who were deprived of their Senses, would go in Pursuit of Butterflies". This butterfly was formerly found in many colonies in south-east England as far north as Lincolnshire, although it is at the northern limit of its range in the British Isles. Today it is found mainly on the south coast of the Isle of Wight, with the occasional colony, typically short-lived, appearing on the South Hampshire coast. There is also an unauthorised introduction in North Somerset. This butterfly is also found on Guernsey and Alderney in the Channel Islands. This butterfly forms discrete colonies with little interchange between them. However, the odd stray will turn up several miles from any known colony.
