Sire Thomas Wildey Monument

architectural style: neoclassical, Grecian Doric

architect - sculptor: Edward F. Durang

dedicated: 1865

Past Grand Master, Sire Thomas Wildey established the American charter for the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (Washington Lodge Number One), in 1819. He was buried in Baltimore's Green Mount Cemetery, in 1861.

Atop the doric column is a life-size statue of the widow Charity (protecting orphans) and two children.

The dado (pedestal) bears bas reliefs of symbols of the Order. On the southern face is the seal of the Grand Lodge of the United States. Carvings of Faith and Hope are featured on the eastern and western facings.

The four emblems of the IOOF are sculpted in the faces of the frieze of the entablature - the three links, the heart and band, the bundle of rods and the globe.

This is a pic of some beads I use to make my own jewelry...

The other night I pulled these out to do this shoot (because I love these beads...they're glass beads) and when I saw the odd one...(the blue one) it reminded me of how I (and I'm sure you too) feel at times like the odd one out...whether amongst family, amongst friends or even in a crowd of strangers!

Be happy,be well always, my dear flickr buddies! :)

This is an antique doorknob on the main entrance at the home of the hubby's grandma. It's quite odd, placed right smack on the middle of the door.

I thought it was time to start getting some shots of my new neighbourhood in Preston (Cambridge), Ontario. This is the old Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) Hall, which stands a block south of me on Duke Street. It housed both the Odd Fellows (male) and Rebekahs (female). It was founded in 1875 (I believe). I guess it's a sign of the changing times, but lodge membership has shrunk to such a degree that the members had to sell off the building about a year ago. It has been bought by an insurance agency, and is currently undergoing a retrofit. The workmen are replacing the old cornice. Glad to see that the building is being retained.

We had some really high winds here followed by (more) snow; when I ventured out this morning there were some orphaned Christmas ornaments which had blown down the street and ended up in this snowbank.

Another in my shiny surface self portrait series :)

I like the barely visible stop sign across the street.

A Common ringed plover and a Sanderling foraged together like an old couple on the banks of the Douro River in the early evening. When they weren't walking side by side, they took turns walking a little ahead and then waited for the other to come.

A lichen new to me was plentiful along the lower trails. It had slender stalks that almost resembled blades of grass, and it grew in large patches under the evergreens, in drier locations.

Not sure as to why this is heading into Portsmouth, but gave me an excuse to get out of the house for 30 minutes. Condor vessels have been refitted at the dockyard in the past, but that's not the case here. as it's due out again at 13:30 today.

As you can see from the reflection the boat trim was red all the way round, but the strong sunshine tricked the camera into recording the front part as orange - weird...

The core of the go2 fleet is made up of four Fourd Tourneos but there have been a couple of additions to the fleet in recent years which are rather more unusual.

Seen here being lined up in the yard at Swanley Garage are the odd ones out and on the left is the only electric go2 vehicle in the fleet a Renault Master ZE, 601 LX19 CXN and on the right is the largest of the six vehicles, a Fiat Ducato 1201 LG14 OFX. Friday 29th September 2023.

I haven't a clue what exactly is going on with this image. The negative appears to have been manipulated but it is difficult to see anything that makes sense.

I've been playing around with my $4 hunk of welder's safety glass (#10) and it really gives some odd effects. It's as though it turned my Canon 7D into a rather "expensive" lomo processing app. This is a 4 minute exposure (240 seconds).

Independent Order of Odd Fellow's building in Longmont Colorado. The IOOF still gather at this location. Probably the only old tile entrance left on Main Street in Longmont. They widened the sidewalk and poured the concrete right to the doors, so what ever was there is now gone. This survived because the tiled IOOF actually goes up a step.

I have 2 other tiled doorways in Colorado, specifically in Denver. I'll have to dig them out.

Two odd men out were acquired by Oxford South Midland from Yorkshire Traction in mid 1982. These were Leyland Leopard PSU3F/4R / Willowbrook 003 which were just over a year old. 47 (KET 161W) is seen at Gloucester Green in Oxford in January 1983 prior to working a journey on route 390 to London via Maidenhead.

ODC ~ Odd one out for May 24th

Some may think it's odd that 13 is my favorite number. It was my favorite number long before I found this mini 13-ball while on litter patrol with an Elderhostel group at the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge in Georgia. I took finding it as an omen. It's the only piece of litter that I have ever saved. When it's daylight, I'll go out and try to do a better job of recreating the scene. No sand in the Okefenokee, it's a swamp! Stay tuned. See below for new photo.

"Jani Hänninen, whose practice is influenced by the traditions of street art and graffiti art, as well as art history and popular culture, draws his visual elements from various sources, which he assembles on the surface of his paintings intuitively, guided by his experienced eye. Hänninen’s recent works are put together in a collage-like fashion, the colour palette is extensive, and bright, vibrant fields of colour are complemented by soft, broken hues."
